Did you know that the K&N has a lifetime guarantee?? Bought a used bike with a K&N and the foam seal was pretty bad. Called K&N to buy a new one, and they sent me a new one... por nada....

Yep.... I needed to use the MKII rotors as well... Put them on the '83 wheels. Also swapped out the Progressive Springs from the '83's to the set of '86 forks. J

Vacuum Advance/Boost sensor
Condor replied to KIC's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When testing the booster you need to disconnect the hose from the manifold to see if there is any change in rpm. That inline plastic piece has a arrow on it pointing to the booster. Can't remember if it's an air check or not?? Been a while since messing with 1stGen carbs.... I think it evens out the manifold vacuum pulses by restricting the air flow?? You also didn't mention if you've sync'd the carbs yet?? -
I did the upgrade on my '83, but kept the brakes linked. Same master, and the difference in braking power was amazing out of just the one caliper. The type of R1 or R6 calipers you'll need to pick up are those that use horizontal bolt fasteners. The new style uses a vertical fastener and is more 'block' looking. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1998-2000-yamaha-r1-front-brake-caliper-/251715810311?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a9b6e7407&vxp=mtr

Help identifying and finding a part
Condor replied to CMCOFFEY's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My '83 came with a chin fairing like that. Sold it to a member way back when. Mine was chrome with the two running lights. If you lok closely at the gold VR in the picture, there it is, but nothing listed in the Venture Line catalog.... http://www.cast-aways.com/QUICKY/access5.jpg -
Charging system 99 RSV
Condor replied to hmlemons0608's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Most of us are switching to AGM batteries. Yes they are heavier than even the OEM Yuasa's, but perform very well. Lithium's seems to have a problem in rough environments, and are also susceptible to premature failure caused by excessive heat and even fire. These are the same batteries that grounded the 787 fleet due to them failing. As far as saving 14 pounds in weight, I don't feel it makes all that much difference when dealing with an 850lb bike plus the rider...or two... -

Possible addition to the Butt Butler Seat Modification
Condor replied to Rick Butler's topic in Bike Accessories
Hey Rick... You did a PT seat for me a few years ago and sad to say, because of health issues, I haven't ever had a chance to test it. We talked about it at the time, but in the end you just left the padding stock. However, raising and firming up the seat sounds like a good thing. I'm tall and heavy, so I end up crushing the foam and being pushed forward, resulting in a major case of monkey butt on long rides. This new set up sounds like what the doctor ordered. Even though I haven't tested it, maybe some time this winter I'll send it back for a dose of Butt magic.... -
This is an old post but contains some good information. I bought a Voyager kit separately and mounted it on the '04 midnight. The first attempt to install was a train wreck. But after carefully viewing the videos on their web site, and talking to a Voyager tech, the second time around was successful. Forget the installation manual, it hasn't been up dated in 10 years, and is not user friendly. The end result is the bike rides very nice, corners well, and after getting used to not tilting, isn't scary any longer....

That will be a cool project Kev. I'll send all the older ones as soon as I can find the pinks..... which are scattered all over the office. For starters here are the 2ndGens. '99RSV, JYAVP04Y0XA000081 '04 RSMV, JYAVP04Y94A000592 '07 RSV, JYAVP04Y17A000882 Hope these help..... I'm also really interested to see this combined with others. If the VIN's are continuous, it might explain why Yamaha isn't really interested in continuing with the RSV. Less than 900 units in 8 years......!!

Put it on a Float Battery Maintainer., and walk away. It'll be good to go 10 years from now. All batteries have a duty cycle life. In the case of most AGM's it's an 80% discharge/recharge cycle. The cheaper the battery the fewer cycles. If the battery never discharges, theoretically it will never wear out.

I wouldn't mess with the actual tire busting and mounting. You can remove the front tire and take it to just about any MC shop, along with a new tire, and they will mount it for you. Generally runs around $30 buck or so.....

Another thing that might need addressing is the missing 'go to last post' button that we had on the last system. Also last read... If they're there I can't find them??

You're not alone with the crazy health issues Puc. Count another OF in. I've been wrestlin' with a couple of things for about a month now. Let's just say I don't like catheters.... And I was also smelling Vicks-Vapo rub at times. Then I noticed it was only when my big ol' Tom Cat climbed up on my recliner. He musta stepped in something. Case solved.... Hope the tests show it's something simple.

Thanks... Found the switch. It's the upper left icon box of the editor controls...

The only problem I have with this editor is it isn't a WYSIWYG like the old editor, and the mods don't appear until the message is posted. You will see the HTML coding before posting.

I've been using a product for years called Weld On IPS 2354 that works miracles when dealing with ABS plastics. It really shines when dealing with spider cracking and the cracks are tight. You don't have to do a thing to the crack. Just apply a drop of 2354 to one end of the crack and it'll wick to the other. What it does is chemically weld the pieces together. The crack will be stronger than original. I've even used it with a similar product by the same company, Weld-on 16. I use the 16 along with a glass mat in a high stress area. or alone to fill a void. Ther are a lot of products that are good and a lot of members swear by them, but I think this stuff it the best. http://www.eplastics.com/ABS-Glue

To Toe Heel or not to toe heel that is the queston
Condor replied to Kc9ojn's topic in Watering Hole
Opinions aside, it all depends on what size boot you're trying to get between the pads, or pegs if you prefer .. The first gens are at most 9" apart, and for someone who wears a smaller size I guess it should work fine if that's what you want. For someone with a larger foot, it ain't gonna happen. The second gen H/T has a span of 13", so it will fit more folks, but even then for a few of the biggies it still gives problems. The answer, to be comfortable, is a toe peg shifter. That way the rider can still us the floorboards... -
There's also adjustments at the throttle... Look where the cables come out...

Just by accident I spilled Sea Foam on the bed liner of my truck which had been graying out. Turned the spot black again... Might be worth a try??

I've heard about the aluminum trick, but I just use 0000 steel wool on old tarnished chrome. Works great and it doesn't stink!!

Watching the early morning news and they were covering a fire that ingulfed S.J.Y. Over 80 vehicles were lost. Could be an interesting fire sale as I'm sure they'll write the whole thing off.... I've never been in the place so have no idea of it's reputation.....??
