When trying to bleed a clutch that is completely empty of fluid on a Venture, it’s very difficult…maybe impossible… to get all the air purged out of the lines normally because of the relation of the reserve to the slave. Unlike bleeding the brakes where the pressure is built up by rapid pumping the pedal or lever, the clutch does not build pressure. Squeezing the clutch lever has to be done slowly and constantly. Using this method causes the air bubbles in the lines to move down toward the slave with each stroke. During the release of the lever the air bubble rises upward in the line. Air rises. So in effect you end up with these bubbles rising and falling and going nowhere. I've seen threads over the years where the owner has struggled for days to get the clutch properly bled. Reverse bleeding is done by forcing DOT fluid into the slave bleeder valve and forcing the air up the line and into the reserve. This can be done several ways. If you have a Speed-Bleeder installed it will have to be removed. If you have a regular bleeder, the reverse bleed can be done with the valve in and open, or you can remove the valve like a speed-bleeder. I find the removal of the valve the easiest. Take a rubber ear wax remover blub that you can find in your local drug store and snip the tip off a little bit at a time until it fits into the threads of the removed valve. It should fit snuggly and the opening should be a bit off the bottom of the hole in the slave. Remove all the fluid in the reserve. Suck up enough fluid to fill the bulb, insert it in the threads of the slave and force the fluid into the slave. Keep an eye on the reserve to make sure it doesn’t overflow. Not good. Sometimes you can hear bubbles as they make their way out of the line and into the reserve. If the bulb runs out of fluid it can be reloaded. The hole can be blocked off with your finger while refilling. When no more bubbles appear stick the bleeder valve back into the slave, adjust the level of the fluid in the reserve to about half full, replace the reserve top and you’re good to go. This whole process can be done in about 15 minutes. When done, go for a ride. PS: After first opening up the reserve, lightly squeeze the clutch lever a tad. The surface of the fluid in the reserve should deform slightly. Squeeze hard and you’ll end up with fluid on you and the bike. Not good. What this shows you is that the expansion orifice is clear and functioning. If it’s plugged the hot expanded fluid will have no place to go, and start to push on the slave as if you were actually pulling the lever. The clutch will start to slip. This is also why the reserve should be only filled half way. I have seen owners spend a lot of money rebuilding their clutches, and all they had was a plugged expansion hole. Hope this helps

North of Sacramento, over toward the coast on 101, we have the Ave of the Giants. If you're into big trees, this is the place. In NorCal we have a ton of great rides and places to explore. Hwy 1 is a must. Gimme a call when you get into Sac. I've got this great burger place for lunch....

Go get'm Herb....

I knew I'd get a knee jerk out of a few of you, but out of all the RSV's out there, how many have an odo with more than 200,000 on it?? How about 175?? That'd be a good question. How many folks out there have an RSV with 175,000+ on it?? Anyone???

One of the things that has been mentioned, and not discussed, is that the 2 pics of the bike were shot in SoCal. Yamaha USA is located in Santa Ana... SoCal. Not sure if any other brands are located in the area....

I figured it would give a few a little joke fodder... :0 Absolutely!! Bring some bath oil...

If that thing is going to be the new Y touring bike, I'm gonna save a lot of money. That thing has to be just plain fugly.....

Was out front giving 7 of 9 a bath this morning, and just as I finished toweling her off a Google Maps car drove by the house. I just checked maps and I guess it takes some time before they do an update. Wonder how long it's gonna take before I make the big map in the sky..... ???

The man is looking for used. I imagine for a reason. Getting 130M out of the original, plus his bike having that many miles on it, and getting towards the end of it's life... They don't live forever... might have something to do with it. To me it doesn't make sense to spend the money for new when the bike life is iffy?? You can find very nice low milage used shocks with a little searching. I had two like new used, but one got legs along with my trailer. So the one that's left just sits there in the wings waiting until it's needed.... I think everyone should have a used spare....

Weather it be fire, floods, earthquakes, or tornados, a mobile home makes a lot of sense. It's cheaper, it's replaceable, and when it is replaced the new one will have all the upgrades that have been invented in the last 15-20 years and be brand new. You can even end up with that 60"LED TV you've always wanted.... Been thinking very seriously about putting one on a piece of dirt that I own, and treat it as a get-away from the crowds....

Check the Pinwall eBay store. They always seem to have a few laying around....

I think the .co in the link means it's a spoof website???

HELP with Air Wings
Condor replied to Kc9ojn's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If you find them you might want to buy 2 or 3. The way that lower extends down below the fairing it looks like it's waiting to be shattered.... That lower wind break is the first I've ever seen... The uppers are quite common. -
To Toe Heel or not to toe heel that is the queston
Condor replied to Kc9ojn's topic in Watering Hole
A few of the members have done that to their hee4l/toe, but if you're diligent and follow eBay the Venture Line tow shifters do show up occassionally. I've found three that way. Here's something else to think about. When shifting with the toe, only the foot moves. When using the heel the whole leg, all the way to the hip, has to move slightly. If you do a lot of riding in the mountain twisties, down shifting into a curve and then powering out, the response is quicker with the toe/toe. While using the heel the whole leg will move and could cause a change in balance. IMHO..... -
To Toe Heel or not to toe heel that is the queston
Condor replied to Kc9ojn's topic in Watering Hole
OK I'm going to raise my hand and say I prefer the toe/toe set up and ride all three of my 2nd Gens that way. Never could get used to a heal/toe shifter. I guess old habits die hard.... :backinmyday: -

Between the four bolts and the frame. They're sorta standoffs.... -
I scored a deal on passing lamps! Now I need the mount.
Condor replied to pbjman's topic in Watering Hole
Nice find... The mounts do come along once in a while. It seems like Pinwall is the biggest lister of used. I picked up a NOS mount still in the package off eBay a while back for the '04RSMV, but had to settle for a pair of Chinese lamps since the OEM lights are just as rare. If I had seen yours I would have done the same thing...... -
Pretty sure the old definition, which has been around since men started building rafts, is "Break out another thousand" But if you want to bring it....that'll work too...

Interesting... So they do have a shipping facility. However, I don't think they are the carrier, and once it hits the boarder there is no tracking into Canada. Also the seller has to put an address label on the package. The 'agent' isn't a mind reader.... I've received packages where labels were generated via eBay, and it does nothing more than prepay for the label and it arrives via USPS or UPS or FedEx... shipper's choice. At least that's what I perceived.... I think they're pulling your leg... One of the nice things about using eBay and Paypal is the shipment has a money back guarantee, and I've never had a problem..
-
So you're saying that eBay is in the shipping business??? I thought they just printed up the labels, and another system did the shipping....???

Can't make the rally, but the trailer has my name on it.....
