Since I took the stock Brickstones off I have been running the Dunlop 404 WWW (Wide White Wall) The stock tires began making horrible noise at 3000 miles. Put the white walls on and have loved the look since. The best mileage I have been able to get from the 404's lately has been 10K How are the Metzlers and Avons wearing?? I had to put a black wall on the rear once in a pinch. I could only stand it for about 4000 miles before I replaced it with the WWW again. She just doesn't look right with out the white walls. Any input to other brands of WWW with decent mileage ware?? thanks

Has any one been using the Delo 400LE oil?? I have been using Delo since I bought new in 2007. (30K+ miles)I had bought a few gallons of the Delo 15-40 before they came out with the 400LE. The API rating does not state "energy conserving" on the 400LE However I do not want to find out the hard way that it will cause my new clutch to slip. I only have two more oil changes left of the old Delo. If it wont play well with our wet clutches, I'll have to go to another brand. Ken

Problem During Valve Clearance Maintenance
sleadhed replied to Jinksy4's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I know for a fact that there are no holes large enough for a shim puck to fit through in our heads. Fish around with a magnet??? you may be able to find it. -
find yourself some liquid tape. apply a few cotes and your golden. Harbor Freight carries it as well as most auto parts stores.

So I guess i should have left the cap screws out after I drained the fork oil. I put them back in before removing top caps, springs and triple trees.

What bolt are you referring to?

OK has any one here rebuilt their front forks?? How did you get the "Damper rod" loose and out of the fork tube. The service manual shows a holder and T handle tools to remove. I have my forks off and am installing new progressive springs and seals. The oil I drained out was black and ugly. I want to completely clean and inspect all components.

Steering Head Bearings
sleadhed replied to BratmanXj's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I just pulled the front end down on my RSV Saturday. Just take your time. It helps to bag up screws and mark them. Take pictures and notes of the wire, cable and hose routing. It can look over whelming but it realy is not as bad as it looks. Ken -
FYI If the lower seal needs to be replaced when servicing the steering head bearings, the lower bearing must be removed. the bearing is pressed on. 99 times out of 100 the bearing is damaged when removing. The National bearing part number is #32006, Timkin #32006X, NTN #4T-32006X, About $24 at local auto parts store. I was servicing the bearings and I could not see not replacing the seal after all of the work to get the trees of of the bike. I cut the old bearing off and will be installing a new lower bearing and seals. Just waiting for seals and new progressive springs to arrive. Ken

Is there a shim kit out there that is affordable? I thought I read a post about a loaner kit. If shims are needed swap out with removed shim puck. I will be starting on some 30K maintenance, Steering and swing arm bearing service, progressive fork springs, Barnett clutch upgrade, and valve adjustment. So I will be needing to replace some shim pucks I'm sure.

vibration/noise at start up after stator job
sleadhed replied to sleadhed's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Got the cover off this morning. Found the stator Phillips screws as tight as I could get them. (even used an impact driver) Stator was slightly loose. I picked up some alen head cap screws, ran a tap down the holes. Ground down the new cap screws so they were 1/8 inch shorter. Installed stator. It is now secure. Just have to wait for a new gasket now. NOTE: If you are going to change the stator and are going to replace the Phillips screws with cap screws make sure that the head height is no taller than the phillips were. I had to eliminate flat washers with the cap screws to maintain the same head height. -
Finished the stator up grade last night. I was careful to re-install the starter drive and idler gears back to the way they came off. Even referred to the pics in the tech library. Now at start up there is an horrible noise and vibration when starting. it goes away after about 3-4 seconds but returns as soon as the engine is accelerated. My fear is that the starter clutch is the cause. The vibration can not be felt where the shafts slide in to the cover but is felt mainly on the removable center cover. Either way I have to go back in. Any one run in to this after a stator up grade??

Looking for the star accessory part #'s for the visors, H/L T/S and driving light visors. It seems that my lovely wife has determined that the star accessory catalog that I used to have served a better purpose in the recycle bin. She claims she was being responsable and recycling to be green. I think she is a chrome rasist. Cruser customising has the H/L visor but not the T/S and Driving light visors. I would like to find the Star visors with the Star emblem etched on the top. Thanks

Howdy to all. I am asking for suggestions. I am planning a 2 week ride with my brother next September. We have been talking about riding southern UT. for a few years. We need some suggestions for roads, lodging, eateries.... We want to include Zion, Bryce Canyon, Grand canyon north, Glen canyon, Canyonlands, Arches... We plan on having to do some camping along the way. we want to avoid dirt roads. Thanks!!

Brian Thank you for hosting the M&E. We had a good time. Good food and good conversation. Glad to see your recovery is going well. Might be fun to try a local ride when you get back in the saddle. Thanks again Ken

spark plug socket?
sleadhed replied to msshearin's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Snap-on, Mac, or Matco tool dealers have them. -
Don't bother I just tried one I got off of E-bay. 120 led H-4 style. light output was pathetic. I will follow the recommendations of those who went with HID. I just got the faring back together. the LED I was looking at from "TruckLite" will not work with out major modification of the stock headlight housing.
