I know that what is good eats is very subjective and, for pizza, even more so, but this pizza is really good. No beer! No problem. The Bird Cage across the town square has Stone IPA on tap. The Cage would pass as a biker bar. You'll feel very confortable there.

Pork chops were moist and tasty, the veggie and potato were acceptable. The corn bread, while tasty, was hard as a brick. Breakfast the next morning was only passable. Then why am I recommending it? If you're traveling with your dog, you can take your dog into the bar to party with you.

I've only been to the coast on vacation about eight or so times, but of all the places that I've tried, this is the best fish and chips and chowder, so far. I hope you enjoy. As for biker friendly, I didn't see any other bikers there. I don't dress like a biker, so I really can't say yes or no. I selected 'yes', 'cause I can't imagine that they would turn anyone away or treat you badly, even if you looked like Marlon Brando. When they ask you want you want, just remember to reply, "Whady ya got?" Plenty of public parking. Parking lot is public and doesn't belong to the market.

July 2009, Saturday PM Gas: Otis, Grand Ronde. No construction, but with everyone and their mother trying to get out of the heat in Portland, there was a HUGE backup starting ~6 miles from the US 101 junction. This was true stop and go, with more stop than go. Try to time your run to the coast on Sun - Thur or early morning. Road in good condition with well marked sweepers, increasing in number the closer you get to the coast. Passing lanes provided in the several places. Intermittent townage with the usual reduced speed zones.

Fauna Encounters: 1 mule deer in the mountains Subjective Temp: cool. Road Condition: Generally good. No construction. Once past the farms in Loma, straights and sweepers take you into the mountains where sweepers and tighter corners are found. Out of the mountains more straights and sweepers. All corners are well marked with no suprises. Cars Passing Same Direction: few Cars Passed Same Direction: few Cars Passed Opposite Direction: slow drip Smokeys seen: 0

Road Report, July 2009 Road is down to dirt all the way through Monticello, in every direction, but no waits, as this town is very small. Dirt is well packed in the tire tracks. Sand and small gravel elsewhere. State liquor store about 3 miles south of Monticello sells real beer. Monticello doesn't offer much. If you have a choice, move on to Moab.

Not a favorite, just a road report. This is an '08 report. Ride: July 2008, Weekday, AM Gas Available: Fields, Denio Junction. Direction: South Avg Speed: 75 Flora: High grass and desert to low desert. Fauna Encounters: 0 Subjective Temp: Balmy to Warm. Road Condition: I'ts been a year, but I remember generally good. Long straights with a few well marked sweepers. Fields is very tiny. Not sure I'd count on getting gas there without making inquiries first. Denio Junction has gas just a few miles south of Denio. Cars Passing Same Direction: 0 Cars Passed Same Direction: I want to say 0. Maybe 1 or 2. It was a while ago. Cars Passed Opposite Direction: 1 or 2 This is a lonely road.

Not a favorite, just a road report. Ride: July 2009, Weekday, PM Gas Available: Silver Lake. Direction: South Avg Speed: 70 Flora: Pine and Pinion to high desert Fauna Encounters: 0 Subjective Temp: Warm. Road Condition: US 97 to OR 31 Junction: Generally good. One construction wait for 15 minutes closer to La Pine. No dirt. Otherwise divided four lane in good condition most of the way to La Pine. However, the posted speed limit in the Peoples Republic of Oregon is 55 and everyone seems to take it seriously. Some are doing 10 over, but most seemed to be taking it very seriously. Cars Passing Same Direction: few Cars Passed Same Direction: lots Cars Passed Opposite Direction: steady flow Smokeys seen: 0, but it was pretty busy and I was watchin traffic, not looking for smokeys, so I may have missed one or two that were well placed. Road Condition: OR 31 Junction to Lakeview Fair. Slightly choppy in places, but not a problem with higher speeds, as one is able to open it up a bit on this section. Long straights with well marked intermittent sweepers and a few well marked tighter corners. Intermittent residential, e.g. ranch house and/or speed zoned small town (very small). Cars Passing Same Direction: 0 Cars Passed Same Direction: 2 or 3 Cars Passed Opposite Direction: slow drip Smokeys seen: 0 OR 31 meets US 395 about 20 miles north of Lake View. US 395 was in good condition.

I had to get from Salmon, ID, to Pendleton, OR, so I didn't have time to smell the roses. Thanks, I'll keep it in mind the next time I'm in the area. I really could have used a nice soak. Had I stopped for a soak, that would have been the end of the road for that day.

Not a favorite, just a road report. Ride: July 2009, Weekday, Late AM Gas Available: Lowell, Kooskia. Direction: West Avg Speed: 55 Flora: Ponderosa Fauna Encounters: 0 Subjective Temp: Balmy to warm. [i live in Phoenix, AZ] Road Condition: Lolo to Kooskia: Mostly fair to good. After Lolo Pass, this mountain road parallels Lochsa River with well marked sweepers and tighter corners for the distance. Slightly choppy in some of the corners, thus the fair to good rating. Starting about 30 miles north of Kooskia, construction in progress at three points, down to dirt for 1/4 mile or so on each scrub. One way traffic in construction zones cause 10 to 20 minute waits. Intermittent gravel patches on the road before and after each dirt patch, but usually swept out of the tire tracks by preceding cagers. There was gas available at a turn off between Lolo Hot Springs and Lowell (closer to LHS). I wanted to gas up and have some fun, but the road was dirt and I had dropped my bike two days prior, in Monticello,UT, when I put my foot down on some gravel and it slid out. So I decided I didn't want any more of that for a while and kept my rpm's low to Kooskia. Cars Passing Same Direction: 0 Cars Passed Same Direction: a few maybe Cars Passed Opposite Direction: low drip Road Condition: Kooskia to Lewiston: Poor to fair. Poor when you pick up the Clearwater River. This river road, with sweepers everywhere, narrows in places with the shoulder substituted with a concrete barrier. Add longitudinal tire track depressions and I'll say this road is in poor condition. In other areas the road is fair, due to the road opening up a bit, losing the concrete barriers. Near Lewiston, the road becomes four lane expressway in very good condition. Cars Passing Same Direction: a few Cars Passed Same Direction: 0 Cars Passed Opposite Direction: intermittent clumps, maybe 10 - 20 per mile I fought a heavy headwind, the tire tracks and fully loaded bike: wife, dog, loaded bags, trunk and tank bag, for what seemed like hours. This part of the road really beat me up an I was not sorry to see it behind me. When I got to Lewiston, I had to lay down for 20 minutes to get some rest. After going from Salmon to Lewiston, I planned on taking more corners on Washington SR 14 to Portland the next day, but decided that I had had enough curves for a while, so I took I-84 all the way and was happy to do so. Perhaps I'll take this route again, on another day: solo on a standard liter bike or sport tourer, but never again loaded the way I was on this trip.

Not a favorite, just a road report. Ride: July 2009, Friday, Late PM to Early AM Gas Available: Wikieup. Bagdad is 20 miles off the track, but there's an attendantless station there if you really blow it. Direction: South Avg Speed: 70 Flora: Low desert Fauna Encounters: 0 Subjective Temp: Balmy. [i live in Phoenix, AZ] Road Condition: I won't comment on I-40 except that it seemed to be fine between Kingman and the US 93 junction. After turning onto US 93, the first quarter of the way is very good, the second quarter good, third quarter very good and last quarter good. First quarter is straight with intermittent sweepers. Middle two quarters are packed with well marked sweepers. Last quarter is straight. Center reflectors go for the distance. Raised reflectors on both sides of the road in the corners. Reflector gaps are rare. Reflector condition is easily seen to very bright. Passing lanes on the longer uphill pulls for the patient. Passing stripes abound between the sweepers for those who are not and who have the muscle. Smokeys Seen: 1, in Wikieup. Sherrif, lights on, busted a cager in the reduced speed zone (The bustee was someone who was tailing me by 100 yards or so; shining his lights in my mirrors for 10 miles, so I slowed down going up a hill to allow him to pass. Hee hee hee.) Cars Passing Same Direction: few Cars Passed Same Direction: about a dozen with half being semi's Cars Passed Opposite Direction: low drip with intermittent low trickles I was planning on an overnight in Overton, but the town was such a rat hole (present residents excepted, of course), that I decided to have a couple of beers, get a couple of hours sleep and bust out. What turned out was a very nice, cool (for me), ride on an awesome night road to get some much needed night riding experience.

Direction: South Avg Speed: 75 Flora: Low desert Fauna Encounters: Bat(?) and knee meet. Knee 1, bat 0. Subjective Temp: Balmy. [i live in Phoenix, AZ] Road Condition: Very nice. Once out of the mountains, arrow straight. Well marked. Got to the dam around 9'ish. Went right on through. No backups, but steady traffic in both directions. After the dam, first 15 miles are under construction with no passing and a 55 limit. No dirt. Smokeys Seen: 0 Cars Passing Same Direction: 2 Cars Passed Same Direction: maybe a couple, but I think 0 Cars Passed Opposite Direction: trickle I lucked out on this road after crossing the dam. Once on my way, I was second in line behind a truck that was doing 35 mph going up the hills. After about 10 miles in the construction zone, I had to pass him. So the cars behind him were held in check and I had the road to pretty much to myself. Thankfully, none of the headlights behind me was a smokey. Would have been very costly had one been behind me that wanted to pursue. BTW, My brother-in-law did the dam in the early afternoon in a truck with a one hour wait.
