  1. Has anyone ever replaced their rheostat for the volume control on their remote? My only issue is not being able to adjust the volume. Last week I turned the knob, it stopped at 20 and then the volume adjustment display went away. If I move the volume now it doesn't show anything other than the setting that I have changed it to (cassette, radio, aux etc.) Everything else is working fine. ALP5 JAPAN I'm the third owner so I'm guessing this remote had had the 'fix' with the silicone (grey) in the pic ...but I don't know, this was my first time taking it apart.
  2. I just had enough and gave it a little more of a tap. What I found was the edge of the tool was out just enough to keep the shim from going in. Once I popped the shim tool over, the shim sat right in place. Thank you, djh3, for your quick response.
  3. I know the a number of you folks have said this is a winter project but I had hoped to get away with my wife this summer on the scoot. I was concerned about the valves so the thought I would delve into this project with all I've learned from reading on this site. 67k on the Midnight I have all the adjusted shims in there rightful place except the last. The only one I really needed to replace. Cylinder 4 outer intake (.003). The inner intake shim, next to it, went in easy. I think the tool might have be a little off center. I cannot get this new shim back in (24.97 mm O.D. on my mic same as the one I removed) Has anyone dealt with this? I don't think I want to move cams without a shim in place. I tried a 'really light' tap on the tool to scoot it over, but I sure don't want bigger problems. My back up scoot to get me through this down time fix is down now too. Thanks to all
  4. I believe the dam is the Kinzua dam a little bit east of Warren, Pa. My wife and I have made that run a twice from Ohio. It's a nice ride in that area ... There is a train bridge that was taken out from tornado in July of 2003 about 40 mins away from the dam but I have yet to ride over to it and check it out. Ride safe!

  6. Does anyone know if the metal valves that come with the kit fit the Gen ll or should I be looking for different valve stems? Hoping to get tires put on today but would hate to drive there and find out I need a different valve. Thanks all

  8. I've run E3's the last 35k miles on my 03 Midnight. The bike came with them and I've put two sets on her since July 2017. I ride rain or shine to work until the snow & salt flies and have loved the E3's in the rain, but they are no longer available. The Elite or E4's are not made for the front tire (150/80-16) ...or so the local guy I have bought from said. I need to score a set due to a nail in the front tire last week. I do like the price of the set MT66!

  10. Last week, I just put another sent of E3's on my 2003 Midnight. The shop I have used has always been good with tires for my Sporty. So I went to them as usual. Two weeks ago I ordered a set of E4s and then I got a call back from the owner stating, "The E4's have a national back order with no estimated time of delivery." In need of tires, I went with the E3's again. E3's came on the bike when I purchased it in 2017. I replaced the rear tire after the first day that I rode it, due to a nail that I picked up (a 250 mile ride). Shortly after replacing the rear tire in 2017, I had a flat front tire while getting off of I-90... It was a bad valve stem. The Indy shop replaced the broken stem with a 90 degree valve stem. Last week, with the new tires on, I rode to work only to have a front tire go flat 40 miles up the road from home (the same place along I-90 as the first time)... Valve stem again!!! This time I looked up the front tire valve stem online, only to find that I had been running the last 19,500 miles with the WRONG VALVE STEM!!! The unseen mercies of God!!! I plan to ride to TN in October and hit the Dragon's Tail one of day's that I'm down there. Thankful for being near home when the stem went and not on a leaning curve!!! Local Yamha dealer replaced the valve stem with the proper one (Tr 412) and rebalanced the tire for under $21. I've always done my own work, barring mount and balance... Lesson learned: If I'm taking the time to turn a wrench by the book, I also need be sure that valve stems are replaced with what the bike's engineers call for. Bottom line, I've been happy with the E3'S and have rode many miles in the rain with full confidence. Granted, I do know the roads well (no low spots with standing water) on my almost 90 mile round trip to and from work. My next set will be the E4. Ride safe and check those valve stems!!! Shaka brah
