shadetreepowersports.com has a carb synch set for 4-cylinders for $65.99. Has anyone used this set? Looks like it might be ok.

How many miles are we talking about here when the inside pad is wearing out? I had the stealer check mine a few weeks ago due to a rear brake pulsating poblem. He didn't mention anything abnormal in the pads but said the pistons were dirty and a little sticky. He cleaned them and said that was the cause of the pulsating. I'm a service tech and didn't really buy into that theory. They pulsated on the first stop. I'm still debating on taking it back to this guy. If it wasn't warranty, I would just take care of it myself.

Handle Bar Risers
venture101 replied to midnightsunrider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have the risers on my 07RSV. Didn't have to change cables, but throttle does stick at full right turn. Have the front of the fairing off now and have tried to get more slack in the throttle cabel, no luck. Hasn't been an issue so far but would like to make sure it doesn't become an issue later on. Any ideas to get a little slack? -
Anyone made this ride coming from the west? (Ellensburg, Wa. right in the middle of the state) Planning on doing Yellowstone and Beartooth in late July. Also want to work in Lolo Pass, maybe on the way back. I've heard that Lolo is kind of "ride to the top, turnaround, and ride back". That might be OK out of Missoula. Anyway, back to Beartooth. Always looking for info. We are planning 5 days, so should be plenty of time.

Problem with Carbon_One lift adapter
venture101 replied to davecb's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have one and had the same problem. I just ground a taper on the end of the rod/pin and went right in. It fit a little tight, but I liked that better than having it flopping around. I have done some frabricating over the years and know sometimes things just don't line up right after welding. This wasn't a big deal for me, but if you need it changed I'm sure Carbon One will make it right. Don't hesitate to contact him.- 17 replies

I learned how to fix Ymaha rear end whine
venture101 replied to JerryK's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have the whine, getting worse. I was considering the clutch basket fix next Spring but now thinking I may have the rear end problem. My whine goes away completely when decelerating. Its there when constant speed and accelerating. I am a journeyman technician and that sounds like ring and pinion mesh problem to me. I kind of put that thought out of my mind when I first read about the clutch basket problem. I will have to wait till Spring when weather permits to do some more checking. May try a little Moly in the rear end first before any teardown just to see if the whine changes. -
I use Windex for cleaning and Pledge for the final polishing and protecting. If you have a lot of bugs, let the Windex soak for a minute or so to keep from scratching the windshield when wiping off. Applying the Pledge after each cleaning will help bugs and dirt from sticking as bad. Pledge will also remove any swirl marks left from cleaning. It helps the rain bead a little but not like Rain X on glass. I agree to NOT use Rain X on plexiglass. I purchased a small spray bottle to put the Windex in and a small can of Pledge to carry in my side bag. I use the Scotts blue shop towels for cleaning and a SOFT rag for polishing. I have been using this combination for over 20 years and have never caused any damage to my windshields. Just and FYI--I also use the Pledge on the entire bike after washing and to remove dust before each ride. Works great. I do not use auto wax, too much work and the Pledge protects just as well. Ride safe, Don. I love this icon!!

Does anyone have the top rail gaurds for the side bags? Are they worth the money? Where is the best place to get them?

I just use the valve stem caps that show red/yellow/green. A quick glance before each ride and at each stop lets me know if the tire is up or low. You can get them in different pressures and not very expensive ($10 - $20 for four). I got mine at NAPA but have seen them at tire stores.

I'm doing a little preventative maintenance on my 07RSV. Found missing screw on trunk lid slider but screw was in trunk. Tightened others. Aslo putting on light bar for brake lights from Signal Dynamics. Found out need to have 1" spacers. My main question is do you loose any memory (not mine, the radio or computer) by disconnecting the wiring connectors under the front cowl to install the dielectric grease? Also should I disconnect the battery first? Thought I'd better get this stuff done before it's too late. Thanks for any replies.

I just received my lift adapter from Carbon One. Works great. I had not seen any pics of it installed so thought I'd post this for those who don't have one and wanted to see what it looked like installed. Well worth the money. Thanks Carbon One for your great work.

I'm retiring from making R/K brackets
venture101 replied to Squidley's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have a set of the brackets on my 07 RSV. Thought they were just what the doctor ordered. Functionality far outways appearance especially when you can't see them anyway. I thought you did a great job. At least you're passing the torch and not just putting it out. Thanks for your work. -
Thanks for the info. Looks like the Dimond R will bolt right on and the other has to have brackets made. I will look into both and decide. Quite a price difference, too. I like the idea of having more lighting, but want it to look sanitary and like it belongs. Thanks again for input.

I have been looking at light bars for the rear of my 07 RSV. I looked at the thread for the Pilot light bar but dont want to do any drilling and that thread is from 2006. I'm sure there are more options by now. I found one that bolts to the helmet holders but now can't find it again. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Slight pull to right
venture101 replied to RossKean's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have had three shaft drive bikes. 83 Magna v-45, 94 Shadow 1100 (check out the classifieds), and now the 07 RSV. All of them had that pull to the right. I attributed it to the gyro effect of the drive shaft. Am I nuts? -
Thanks for the info. Sounds like one guy can do this without a problem. I'm sure I'll be buying a lift adapter eventually, hopefully not right after I tip 'er over. Thanks again.

I just bought the Craftsman lift jack but have never used one. I read the thread and replies on lifting an RSV, using the lift adapter, hockey pucs, 2x4's, etc. Seems pretty simple. I am usually alone when doing anything in the garage so the question I have is what is the best way to hold the bike staight up while getting the jack positioned and lifted? I know another person would be the easiest but not always possible.

I just installed the Road Glide slash cuts on mine a couple weeks ago. Love em!! I just went on a 1000 mile ride last weekend to Crater Lake, Or. and liked the sound. When I installed them, I like the deeper tone but wanted a little more when I opened the throttle. A 1 1/8 " hole saw took care of the problem, just drilled out the rear baffle. If more sound is wanted, you can drill out the front baffle.

I got the RG mufflers installed today. Really liked the new sound but wanted more under power so drilled out the rear baffles. Wow! I think I got exactly what I was looking for. I am a happy biker. Good thing I have a windshield or my teeth would be full of bugs:big-grin-emoticon: I had to extend the slots in the inlet with a hacksaw to get them all the way on, but not a big problem. Sqidley's brackets worked perfect except for the length of the bolts. Maybe was just these mufflers (05 Road Glide) I got a pair of clamps off e-bay and work fine. If I get flack from my buds, I may go with the wider clamps since they are visible. Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread. You really helped me out.
-
Thanks for the info. Can't wait to get them installed. May try them without drilling out the baffles first. It's easier to drill them out later than put them back in. Squidley, I sent you a PM about the brackets. Thanks for the clamp site.
-
Seems this subject is getting beat to death, but I have a question about the clamps. I just got a pair of 2005 RG take offs and know I need the brackets from Squidley (when he gets some more made), but what about the clamps. I haven't taken the stock mufflers off yet so may be a little pre mature. Why can't you use the original clamps with the RG mufflers? Also should I drill out the center baffle or the front one and why?

I talked with my third Yamaha dealer today and actually got someone who knew exactly what I was talking about. He has replaced the clutch basket drive gear on two other RSV's and one changed the rpm's that the whine peaked, the other got worse. His comment was that Yamaha will replace the gear once under warranty no matter what the outcome, you just roll the dice. The manufacturer's tollerance on these straight cut gears is such that you may or may not get the whine and to what extent. The gears are manufactuered as a matched set with a letter stamp (G, H, and now I) hence the term "I basket". This guy has been in the business for over thirty years and really was a knowledgeable serviceman. He pulled out the bulletin from Yamaha and read the whole thing to me over the phone. I am still going to change oil before I have any parts changed to see what, if any, difference it makes. I will keep you informed of the outcome. Thanks again for all your replies.

Thanks for the replies. I have read most of the posts on clutch basket whine but not shure this is the same thing. It is not speed specific and is more of a constant gear whine rather than a chirping. I have contacted two dealers in the area and neither seemed to know what I was talking about. I am still going to change my oil (Yamalube) and see what difference there is, if any. I will keep checking back for more replies and let you know if I find out anything.

I just put 800 miles on my 07 RSV last weekend and noticed a bad whine. Seems to be in the tranny. Same in all gears, whines when steady speed and when accellerating, goes completely away when de-accellerating. I'm going to change oil anyway to see if that helps but doesn't sound good. I have 3200 miles on the bike and love it. I have already had to have the rear drive splines re-lubed, no problem since. Any suggestions or ideas?
