Careful with the scrubbing bubbles on clear coated aluminum parts and polycarbonates. I sprayed mine down one fine day, got an emergency phone call and had to leave the bike for about two hours. When I came back I had streaks on the front forks and wind deflectors that are still there a year later.

Ponch replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
When in the west Tx mountains a couple a weeks ago the ambient temp was 101°, the water temp was holding steady at 220°. Normally averages 205°. -

Here's a drawing of the gauge plate I used. The upper corners will have to have a radius on them to match the dash. Also, one of the gauges was a little tight (oil pressure, I think) so you may have to open it a little. You can use Aluminum, steel, ABS or just about anything that's reasonably rigid. Ponch -

We were headed to Santa Fe, NM a couple of years ago with at times approximaretly 40 MPH gusts. Friend on his 06 GW, me on the 04 RSV. The gusts seemed to attack the most around sharp rises (mountain passes, river crossings, overpasses). I noticed that he had to fight the wing a little harder than I did the Venture. We were both leaning hard to stay in the lane, but he was drifting more than I. I noticed since I started pulling a trailer (none then) that the trailer seems to minimize the effects of the wind. ie: don't drift around as much. I guess its kind of like dragging a parachute .

Dymanic Cluster Hook up??
Ponch replied to Maritimer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yeah, I just ran all wires to the J' box/license plate. The hardest part is running the wire loom through the factory locations and holes. If you noticed, I left entirely too much wire in the J' box. I think I'll go back in and shorten some of the wires to neaten it up a little. Enjoy -
I've seen the Harley guys do it. I think I would rather have a daily rider (non dresser) with apes and leave the Venture at stock height as it is very comfortable for touring and long distance rides.

Dymanic Cluster Hook up??
Ponch replied to Maritimer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The pics aren't a lot of help. The wires from the clusters are very small gauge and (if I remember correctly ) I slipped them inside the existing wire loom going to the junction box. The wire loom is held tight to the inside of the fender via a fold over metal tab. Inside the junction box. The wires coming in from the top are to a light bar. Inside the light housing. Remove the bulb recepticle and run the wires trough the original loom. If it won't fit, Lowes sells some thin wall vinyl tubing that works great for wire looms. Under the fender. You will have to unbolt the tailight assembly and pull it away from the fender to have room to work. The pictures are not that good, but I think you can see how the wire looms are attached to the fender. Now that I see the pics, I don't remember if the loom tabs are screwed to the fender or secured with bend tabs. It sounds like a lot of work, but its not hard, just time consuming. And worth it in my opinion. Good luck, Ponch -
Dymanic Cluster Hook up??
Ponch replied to Maritimer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Maritimer, I ran the extra run/stop circuits through the same guide as the original turn signal/ground circuit is currently in. I popped out the original pigtail portion at the signal base and ran the new circuit from behind the license plate junction box through the guides attached to the rear fender. It was a little tight, but it fit nicely. I then connected all four wires with quick disconnect adapters instead of fighting the 1157 base. I'll snap a shot or two tonight and post tomorrow. -
:BLUE: When in Texas, let us know. It seems like a good trip for the Houston area group. We (wife & I) go to the Corpus Christi / Rockport area regularly and could swing down to Mission.
