  1. Gotta to tell you. I moved here to Charlotte on 1 July and I do not like riding in the Charlotte area at all. I have seen the worst driving habits in the area than I have ever seen anywhere else, and I have driven in all 50 states and a good many of the provinces as well. Not to bash anyone fron NC but when it comes to riding here I do so with an extreme sense of alertness. I also run one gear lower that I need to so I can make a quicker get out of the way or a faster engine slow down.
  2. When I gutted my cassette player I added a cig lighter (ops I think they call them popwer ports now) to the inside on the right hand side. I have enough room to plug in my phone charger to my blackberry phone which has 8 gig of music stored on it. I still have room to close the door to the "old cassette player" area. keep the phone charged. Cost all total was under under $20. Also my phone has Navigator on it so I have my GPS data when I need it.
  3. The top of the cassette is held down with two small screws on one end and tape on the back end. If you remove the screws the top will swing open as the tape will act as a hinge. Remove the guts, pad the inside with your choice of material, screw the top back down and replace the now empty cassette shell back in. I also reused the rubber grommet where the wires went through the back for the plug extension for my mp3 player.
  4. Thanks Owen, Not bad enough that we had to see it once NOOO, you just HAD to post it again. You are one sick puppy.

  10. Okay I am all for the ice cream Hope I beat BoomerCPO to the cheesecake so I will get some. but what does a frenchman's legs have to do with this?
  11. When he says drink lots of water he means like gallons. The relative humidity out in the desert might be 4% on a "humid" day. Drink the water BEFORE you feel like you need it. Carry two gallons with you. I know it sounds like a lot but believe me if you will need it, you will need every ounce of it. I usually put one in the fridge and one in the freezer the night before. Also DO NOT ride in short sleeves. That will just make your water loss worse. Believe it or not long sleeves a wet vest and a mesh jacket are the best. It is not unusual to get temps in the 40C to 45C range out in the deserts going to and from Las Vegas. Like he said travel at night or very early in the day if possible. I would also suggest a wet vest with a mesh jacket. As long as you keep the vest wet it feels like you are sitting in front of an air conditioner. I ride with two vest for each rider. One on and one in a gallon baggie soaking so that it is ready when I need it. Lastly do not forget the sun screen on the back of the neck and on your arms, even if they are covered. Don't ask me how I know this one.
  12. I would say it depends on the type of riding you plan on doing and what amenities you want right now. Will you be doing long distance touring? Will you be riding several days in a row often? Do you want to listen to music when riding? How important is it to you to be able to talk to other riders on the CB (if they are so equipped and know how to use it). Will you be doing overnight trips or just day trips? Will you be doing mostly 1up or 2up riding? Both bikes are great rides and both will do the job quite well. In my opinion the RSV is better for longer rides and trips and the RSTD is a great day bike while also being good for occasional longer trips. Also if riding 2up a lot your passenger will probably enjoy the RSV more. Just my

And there's not even a hint of shame about it. Must have missed history classes or something!!!
  17. Thanks Ponch. That's the info I needed. Think I will just wire off the existing one since I never use that one anyway.
  18. Thanks for the info straycatt. Hope it gets up soon.
  19. I know we have a few PGR members on here. Anyone else having problems with the PGR website or is it just me?
  20. I will be removing the cassette deck and turning it into a storage box. It just so happens that my crackberry will fit in there perfectly. I would like to add a power outlet in the back of the box for charging the crackberry. Does the cassette deck have a power line running to it? If so can I add a power outlet to the end of that line after I take the cassette deck out? If so is there a separate fuse for that line and if so will I need to change the fuse for this? Finally if so which line is it on the back of the cassette deck? Thanks for your input on this.
  21. This is a great tool. I will be running from San Diego to Charlotte in June and this will help me a lot. It will help me deciding how to pack what gear where on the bike each morning and even what time to leave each day or how long to stop for lunch. Thanks.
  22. I took a staining sponge and cut it in to thirds then used 1 of the pieces between the deflector and the air intake cover. Been using it for a week and it works great. Didn't think to take pics until afterward so the sponge is what is left after being cut in thirds.
  23. Ahhh the cords aren't even showing yet. Whats to be worried about?
  24. Well I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night. Hey, I'm just sayin!!!
  25. I had a weedwhacker go bad on me 2 weeks ago so I tore it apart to see what was wrong. To start with the plastic lines were discolored and soft and in some places were cracked through. I replaced ALL the lines and tried to start it again with not luck. After I tore it apart some more I determined that it was a carb problem because I could get fuel into the carb but nothing coming out of it. Off I went to my local repair shop. While I was there I got to talking to the owner who was quite helpful. To start with the cost of replacing the carb was more than the cost of a new weedwhacker so that took care of that. He told me to go down to sears or something to get a replacement. He also told me that the ethanol blended gas eats the cheap fuel lines that most manufacturers use for there lawn care tools and small tractors/mowers. To prevent this the best thing you could do was to replace ALL the fuel lines with newer automotive grade fuel lines as soon as you got the item. What he told me next though applies to this thread. He told me that just a week prior he had gotten an alert notification from one of his suppliers regarding 10% ethanol gas. According to him the alert said that the ethanol starts going bad 7 days after it is blended with gas. Considering how long it takes to get it from the blending to your local gas station and into your vehicle this means that normally you only have it in your gas tank about 4 days before it starts going bad. I asked him about putting in additives/stabilizers and he said save your money. He said the best thing you could do to take care of your weedwhackers, mowers, small tractors etc was to go out and run them once a month. Run all the gas sitting in them right out of it and then replace it with new gas. He said that he has been doing this for several years now and has had no problems with his equipment. I run my bike a lot and it has never sat more than 2 weeks without being rode. I have not had a problem with fuel. That being said my guess would be that those bikes that sit for months without being started might (and I emphasize the word might) have problems because of this. Since most of us on here ride often we may not see this problem. For what it's worth this is the reason I have used with my wife to explain why I have to go on rides so often. It's worked so far.
