Unfortunately I believe it would hurt the site. Watching the stats there are many guests that visit. I myself am new to the site within the year. I monitored many sites as a visitor before I registered for this one. I was on a small forum that basically just phased out after implementing a 'no free "visitors"' viewpoint. I've gotta say though that it worked out for me as this site is a good one.

Sounds like our kids will handle everything just fine. We are the silent majority until we get ticked off enough then we set everything right. Aerospace is where it's going to be the next 50 years especially on the tech side. A lot was made with some of the NASA closings but I see all of that changing and privatizing. I'm sure you're super proud of both their hard work and accomplishments too. On the government and political side remember what they were saying about the 60's love children taking over politics and remember that our government structure has withstood some very poor leadership in the past - Jimmy Cater for example. I know all my kids are absolutely appalled by the Socialistic agenda of some of our politicians so I have faith that we will not fall into that chasm of futility.

Don't be 'scared' of this generation :-). I was 3 when the landing happened so I obviously remember nothing of it. I have 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren, my daughter is a successful business woman, both of my sons served in the Army, my oldest son was a nurse, is currently a Dialysis Nurse and has been know to save a life or two while my youngest was an MP in the Army and has started a career as a mechanic. I look forward to what they accomplish. Every generation has declared the following one sorry or scary but look at the advancements that continue to be made. Like the aforementioned phone in your pocket, we now have cars that drive autonomously (although safely can be debated), we have built on technology and lessons learned from previous generations. Yes we do slide back occasionally but we continue to rise and grow and build. Generation after Generation has continued to improve areas of the previous generations work. That is what is great about humanity. Our curiosity, our passion and our driven nature to be better. Yes we have our moments but we will always rise from our falls to be better.

Little bit of a 'pucker' moment this morning
bpate4home replied to bpate4home's topic in Watering Hole
Good News, bent oil cooler line (corrected) New filer / oil of course. The odd ball was the tread kicked up and damaged some of the wiring (haven't look at what wiring yet) but repaired/replaced that. $280 and she's all set. Now the shop did degrease it fairly well but I need to detail it now. The next thing is to look at fab'ing some form of cover plate. The Oil filter and oil cooler lines are awfully vulnerable. It makes it easy to change the oil filter but if we can prevent this type of damage we should. If this would have happened in a more remote area . . . . Goal is to make it relatively easy to remove too. Even something with a wire lined zip tie connection could work. Anyone have any thoughts? -
Little bit of a 'pucker' moment this morning

Thank you Sir. I honestly love the way the SVTC handles. I think the Gen2 I was riding last year would have made the ride a lot worse. Keeping fingers crossed on no major issues. -
Riding to work this morning (5:30) came across the remnants of a shredded tire. While i missed most of it I hit one of the larger pieces that was in a shadow of the street light. At 75 that was . . . . . . Lets just say interesting. Kept it upright but where I was at there was no immediate area to pull off. Got to a decent spot with in a 1/2 mile. I believe it's the Oil cooler line in front of the oil filter but anyway they got pushed back into the oil filter unseating it and oil was everywhere. Bike was throwing error codes 11 and 90. The electric assist motor was not working. Finally go towed to the mechanics place. Told them to go through everything with a fine toothed comb. Should know more tomorrow.

I'll be picking up risers soon. The handlebar shape of the Gen 1 and that era of Yamaha with the downward sweep of the grips is what I really liked. I had an old Yamaha 400 Special II that had the grips almost vertical. That was interesting to ride to say the least so I went back to the factory bars after a few months.
-
Great find. I love the older Yamaha's handle bars to no end. I love the TC I have now and loved the '06 Gen 2 I had but the handle bars on the Gen 1 I rode were my favorite of the lot. They just seemed to fit me perfectly. Wish they would've kept that format. You should have miles and miles of fun on that.

I've heard this in the past about several different brands. There is a Darksiding board which has a good reference to tried and tested CT's for bikes. I've personally ran a Nexan on my RSV for a couple of years and put ~20K on that tire. It felt very stable while hitting twisties and was awesome in rain. https://darkside.nwff.info/?p=tires

I've only been in IL a couple of times and that was when I was a kid. Check out http://www.motorcycleroads.com/. Great site to find roads in new areas. Once you get the detail of a ride you can download the way points for GPS too.

Thank you sir. I just skipped this when looking originally because she didn't seem interested in armrests. I'll see what she thinks.
-
Well after putting on a couple of hundred miles with my wife on the back she complained about the plastic speaker covers. She keeps hitting her elbows on them. Has anyone else had their passenger complain about this? She has been talking about just making herself some arm pads but if there is a more 'appropriate' option I'd be interested in hearing about it.

Sounds like you had a great ride! Awesome.

Early 70's 80cc (not my Pic) I was 9 or 10. Spend hours riding this and as far anyone knows it was only in the fields - yeah right. Spent the summer of '84 on a Venture but it wasn't mine. A Friend was deployed and told me to have fun for the summer and man did I. He was a little ticked at first when he saw the mileage. 1981 Yamaha 400 Special II (again not my Pic) put 45 - 50K on this bike in 3 years al over OH, WV, PA, IN and IL 2006 RSV (Finally my Pic). Purchased it used with ~30K on it. I put ~70K in 5 years all around TX, LA and MS 2018 SVTC 4 Weeks and 4K on it. Looking forward to many more.

BTW: I forgot to mention that you can download a GPX (GPS file format 1.0) from the motorcycleroads.com site for most of the routes there. Once you get to the route directly you can see the download link for the route on the left side below the map.

I grabbed a few minutes at lunch and looked up the WV 3 route I mentioned. On the site it's called Marmet to Beckley via 94 and 3: http://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/1532/West-Virginia/Marmet-to-Beckley-via-Routes-94--3.html#sthash.i50QJWQU.dpbs

Awesome, found out when I joined last month I grew up just north of where Freebird's at. Jump on http://www.MotorcycleRoads.com, it's a great FREE site to find rides pretty much anywhere and riders rate the roads for quality of road scenery and amenities. Bill Belei runs the site and is working on a revamp project (which I supported via GoFundMe since I use the site a lot). I found one of my old favorites was already marked on the site. It goes from near Clendon, WV to the New River Gorge Bridge following WV 4 and WV16 then along the Gauley. Right around the Hawks Nest area you catch WV 60 that I mentioned above. You then follow that over to 19 and then South to the Bridge. If you have time find WV 3. I don't remember how to get to it but I'd bet its on the site above. It was always a fun ride but back then the road left something to be desired.

I used to ride the WV area a lot as a kid. Even been on 64 when it was called dead man's turnpike. Coming south out of Charleston I always preferred 60 slightly to the north towards hwy 19. You'll hit Chimney corner, Hawks Nest and a few other spots and if I remember right there is a corner on 60 we used to call 'Kiss Me Ass curve'. It goes to the right with a drop but its not a blind corner. It used to be banked pretty well. My mom was from Beckwith and my dad from Oakhill so we would jump off on 16 south but I would stay on 60 and go over to 19. You can take 19 south and it will run you across the New River Gorge Bridge back down to 64. I believe 64 also meets back up with 77 near Beckley. You be on great pavement the whole time and there are plenty of fuel and food stops along the way. Enjoy the ride WV is God's country and great for bikes.

Darksiding '18 Venture/Eluder
bpate4home replied to RonK's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Thanks for the update Greek. I understand the rain issue. I'd ride in about any weather but I have an agreement with my wife. Finished a 2200 miler last Saturday, with the exception of some local hops Last Sunday today is the first day on the bike to work. -

I would love to see updates on this. I ran a CT on my Gen 2 for 20K or more. Only reason for the change back to an MC was a break down on a trip and the shop it was towed to would not even work on it with a CT. I would go back to a CT without hesitation if I have solid references to a CT Brand/Model. -
I sent them 17 photos of my wife's 2013 CAN-AM Spyder STS which had only 2200 miles on it. She developed arthritis in her shoulders and could not ride it any loner. At the time the bike had a book value of just under 11K for the low end and they were selling on craigslist, eBay and Facebook for ~12.5K - 13K but were taking a long time to sell. RideOn offer 5K. I called and talked to them directly and they held firm at 5k. I sold it 3 weeks later on Craiglist for 9900 cash in hand.

Turns out VentureFar's assessment of the 3rd Gen SVTC was SPOT ON!!
bpate4home replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
I just got back from our Big Bend Trip, a little over 2200 miles. Awesome trip with many great runs. As far as heat goes there were no real issues at all. While actually in Big Bend and Terlingua TX temps we 95-101 for the 3 days there and it was a little warmer on my left leg than my Gen 2 but it was nothing to raise concern. We were at 45 mph for nearly 2 hours in the park and below that many times. Going up into the Chisos Basin where it was 97 we were below 30 mph and there were no issues there at all but I was also changing riding positions in the twisties. I did notice that when I stretched out a little or sat up straight I could feel more heat as my thigh was pressing against the bike a little more. Again nothing to be concerned about. Coming back towards east TX (San Antonio) to hit the 3 Sisters we had rain and cooler weather so there we 0 issues with heat. -

Sorry I'm late to the Thread. Height and Leg position have a lot to do with it. I just picked up my 2018 (sold my 2006) 2 weeks ago. After a little over 1000 miles and playing around with riding position I can vouch for this. I have a 28 - 29" inseam and just under 5'7". I feel the increased heat when I stretch out, the little I can :-) as it puts my thigh closer to the bike in general. Also playing with the location of the back rest I find moving the back rest forward and sitting with my feet back on the foot board mitigates some of the heat. I have not found the heat to be excessive at any point though, even stretched out. Getting ready to leave on a trip to Big Bend, TX which will end up being around 2K miles after the side rides we have planned. Areas out there are desert, mountain desert as well as plateau with temps expected to be from 60 at night to just under 100 during the day so I will definitely be able to give a short legged view point of heat.
