  1. Thanks for the fast responses guys! love the options too. Will definitely be looking at the Reda as well as a MSR. May end up using the MSR as a daily ride extra to keep piece of mind, but that Reda might be the best for the long touring days. Thanks again for the insights! JB
  2. Rode to work yesterday morning - 62 miles at 33 F. Used my snowmobile pants under chaps and my normal cool weather jacket with the snowmobile gloves. Was a GLORIOUS ride. But we have had our couple bouts of rain to wash the salt off the roads, and today, its scheduled for some higher winds and rain, despite being a little warmer today, I drove in with the jeep rather than my RSTD. Mostly as I know it wouldn't be fun dodging tar snakes with the wet and wind today. On the other hand, last month we had a few days of -30 F to -20 F and I saw a imo 'crazy' (or is it 'death wish'?) - biker out on the road in that with enough snow on the ground my jeep was complaining. As many before said, cold is relative to your experience and I must say comfort to control ratio - with the proper gear cold isn't much problem for the bike or you, but you have to think out your gear vs the conditions with the speeds you will be going. Wind chill from your speed is just as bad as anything else. My . JB
  3. Anyone find a reliable (not prone to leaking) extra gas can that fits in the saddle bags on a RSTD or Venture second gen? I'm trying to think ahead to those long stretches on trips for the coming season, and remember getting stuck a couple times with my old bike. Any thoughts? JB
  4. Update: found some stock pipes from another rider near my work that just traded in his RSTD for a new Harley. Still have my eye on the cool idea with these others, but think I'm going to try the free stock pipes first (and maybe spring for a better summer jacket) before dropping 500 for these unseen. 5. I have a wonderful set of cobra pipes on my new (to me) 09 RSTD, however, the community around me has many small children that would be appreciative if I was a little quieter around the neighborhood I stumbled on to this system online and was wondering if anyone had any experience with it or had seen/heard it in person. If there are any others like it people know of or that have a good balance between being heard on the road in traffic and quiet enough at low rev not to rattle the windows like a freight train going by I would appreciate it. http://www.nationalcycle.com/n41310.html JB
  6. Full face before (started riding on dirt bikes) now my LS2 modular. Will only get ECE rated helmets or better. DOT rating was an outdated and discarded version of ECE when they started using it, and hasn't really been updated. I had a rock kicked up from a large truck break my first Street helmet off my head while riding on the JSP. Could have been lights out, but thanks to my helmet, still here. JB
  7. Hey all! Newbie J here - just got a 2009 RSTD and can't believe how much of an upgrade that has been from my old Virago. Almost as much of an upgrade that I've found so far searching through this forum! Happy to find this community. I'm up in good old Wisconsin - the heart if Harley country near Milwaukee.
