No its shavings, I have the 07. the shop said they changed the rear end oil, but at 11,000 miles, I changed the oil, and it was blacker then the ace of spades. and LOADED with metal, & yes the slug. My shop just replaced the whole rear end. Now here will be the test. I'm comming up on 800 miles. this weekend, I'll drop the rear end oil, and see what it looks like. Buy the way. The bike sat in the shop for 16 days while the shaft was ordered from japan. there was NOT, ONE SHAFT ANYWHERE IN THE US. you would think that someone would have a drive shaft as parts. Noop.

I had to do the same thing. I came off a 04 roadstar to a venture, I found it likes to lay down into the turns, very light on the front end, But, Yes, I took it into a parking lot and rode in circles for a few hours, circles, figure 8's, then pulled my trailer, and started doing the same with the trailer, then the wife on the back. I'm 6-4 and my knees hit the handbars when I turn them all the way in. But I've learned to lean slightly when making my turns. I also used "Ride like a pro". I've been riding for 27 years. And Yes, Ride like a pro, taught me a some new trick's.

Pulling a trailer on my first bike ( 79 Honda CB 750) while riding through Vermont, I was following a group of 12, I was the second to last bike, The last 4 of us had trailers. I went into a hard right turn, the hitch bottomed out and the ball pushed me into on coming traffic, Just missing a very large farm tracker, I could fell the back of the bike straining, to stay upright. then started to hear, loud poping sounds. I kept the bike up, but pulled over, to check the bike, 3 of the 4 bolts holding the trailer hitch in place snapped under the strain. From then on, the last 3 bikes, the trailer I owned all had swivels. I've learned my lesson the hard way. God forbid you ever have to lay that bike down, I rather have the trailer up on two wheels, then rolling over with me., I think the trailer would keep the bike stable while sliding I don't even want to think about it......

while in Maggie Valley back in September, the wheel was making a cicking noise, turns out I just had the rear tire changed and the seals weren't greased, I had to go to Ashville, to have the tire pulled @ MR. CYCLE they removed it and greased everything. I rode it home to South Florida.

I have the new 2007 Star Venture. I have about 12,400 miles on it. Its sitting on a lift, waiting for a new drive shaft. Noone in the U.S. had the part, it had to ordered from Japan. Anyone else having a problem with their bike. The wife explains" the wheel fells like its sliding", mostly around turns. she kept questioning the tire pressure. Now we kept hearing a whinding sound as the bike slowed, loudest sound came, down shifting into third gear. like a WUAAAAA sound. I brought the bike in a fewtimes, because, it felt like to front end was hopping. I had the front end checked 3 times, like the pads were rubbing, after a while 4000. miles we had the rear brakes checked, still nothing. The service rep, rode the bike after changing the gasket on the left side of the bike from a leak. He herd the noise, and brought the bike back in and removed the tire, and checked the drive shaft. sure enough, the teeth were chipping off, and the threads were rounding off., upon dropping the rear end oil, we found small peices of metal on the magnet. so we ordered, evey part connected to the shaft, for replacement.

Final Drive Oil Leak on 03
Brake Pad replied to Pilot's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just jumping in here, i have the 2007 Star Venture, and I brought it in for the same problem. I found oil on the kick stand, after riding. I brought it in to have it replaced. I was told, they leak all the time, its something with this type of bike. I've only had the bike 6 months -
