  1. Well, I fired up the bike today and I have fuel leaking from one of the overflow tubes!! I spent $800 on the carb rebuild! I have contacted my carb guy and waiting for reply. I ran the carbs dry for now and will mess with it this weekend. thoughts?
  2. Okay, i installed new speakers. Went with Polk weatherproof around $50. I still need to install antenna, geesh , totally forgot!
  3. 1981 GL1100 total restoration with single carb conversion.
  4. Thank you Cowpuc for nominating me for an exceptional member award. I really do appreciate you and many others on this forum that helped me restore this beautiful bike. Now, I'm not anywhere near the caliber of restoration as johnnycyclone but she is running again! For years I would look at this bike online and many times wished that I owned one and now I do. This is a keeper for sure and with that being said, this summer we are hitting the road to travel this beautiful country. Now, I do still have a few issues to tweak: Polk speakers to replace oem, new boost sensor line with valve, paint touchup and windshield buff. That should do it. will keep you posted.
  5. Here is my final video: Includes many pics I took throughout the rebuild.
  6. No, this line is connected to the boost sensor and intake boot. Here is a video of the bike almost complete. I state in the video that this will be the last video, however, i am going to put together a final final from beginning to end, so wait for that. Took her for a spin and she runs well with all the bags and stuff on !!
  7. I spent 3 weekends fixing all the plastics which are now officially done. Here is where I am. Still have to get some touch up paint.
  8. I checked oil level and it's good, no change. I think could just be a stuck float, anyway, I turned off petcock and ran the carbs dry while tapping on float covers. I did check #2 plug and it was fouled. Will have to tweak air/ fuel mixture a bit. Thanks for your help. Bike will be fine. I'm almost done with rebuilding the plastics and then I'm going to make a restoration video of entire project. Should be in the next few weeks. I ordered the parts for booster sensor line.
  9. What's strange, is last week I topped off the gas tank and have not ridden the bike. Yesterday, I smelled gas and opened the gas cap, looked inside and the level had dropped. I have kept the fuel petcock open while bike sat. I went ahead and closed the petcock and topped off. Today I checked the gas level and it has not changed. Strange!
  10. I don't have the stock TCI, instead I believe my current TCI is yellow label off of a Vmax. I guess I will go ahead and get a restrictor, new hose and connect to boost sensor and #2 intake port. Will that work?
  11. What is this little tube. Looks like one end goes to a sensor and other end fits into carb joint. I removed the end connected to joint since it was leaking gas. I will have to find a small nipple fitting to make it fit right.
  12. Shoot!! Saddlebag locks do not work!! uuuuuuuuuurgh!! Will have to mount permanently or try a quick release of sorts.
  13. Puc, thank you for the info and compliments. I'm definitely going with the oem now. I'm getting close! It's good to hear from you!! Later.
  14. I've restored the saddlebags. She's strong as new now but, the PO did away with the temporary mounts and handle. I think i want to go back to original mounts as one can then remove the bags if needed to. I have all the hardware for that. Do the bags stay put with factory mounts? Thoughts? thanks
  15. These plastics are in worse shape tha previously thought! Anyway, just a few more pieces to fix. If you ever have to mend the plastics, one has to use ABS glue and cleaner. Here are a few pics. Getting closer. I'm using a rubbing compound to bring out the original colour .
  16. My ABS black glue came in. Time to start fixing cracks in plastic and also reinforce with ABS sheets. Next week or two I will post my final video once she is all put together. Man, what a journey !!
  17. After 6 months of slaving away on this bike, I am finally to the aesthetics portion of the build. The original plastics will need some reinforcing with ABS glue and sheets and a little paint work. Hopefully I will have the entire bike completed in the next few weeks and then...................it's time to ride
  18. Skydoc's fuse block upgrade is complete. My gas gauge does not work but other than that, everything looks good! Took her out for a 20 mile ride, no issues!! Very fast!! Now, time to put all plastics back on
  19. No more smoke but I have had quite a bit of smoke from right tailpipe , although it seems to be diminishing now! I can't wait to get the plastics on, its amazing how these can buff right up using a compound to look brand new. The po removed all the handles and did a permanent mount of sorts, so I'm going to try to get those back to stock. I also mentioned earlier that the trunk was not stock and much bigger, so i will change that too. Prefer the look of the smaller trunk. anyway, lots left to do but the tough part is over, she finally rides again !!!
  20. Thank you. I am looking forward to completing and going on a trip Then converting that final drive! Thanks again for all your help sir. Much appreciated! Where is Cowpuc? I have to say thank you to him too and others I might have forgotten.
  21. I have attempted carb rebuilds in the past ( goldwings) with no luck! This carb setup appeared to be very unique. I leave this job for the pros, shipped off mine and Presto! 6 weeks later i have a new set using only OEM parts. Plug and play from then on out. I took my bike for its first ride in over 10 years and she rides like a dream. Well done on yours!!
  22. I am beyond excited!!! The feeling of resurrecting a bike that had so many issues and finally getting her on the road is an amazing feeling that is hard to match!!! Now, I still have alot left, there are no plastics on her. I have one front brake working but barely!! My rear master cylinder still does not work , even after a rebuild so a new aftermarket is on the way !! I also need to fix a small leak in clutch line and coolant elbow. I ordered a fuse box upgrade kit from skydoc and will get that this week! Also, a sidestand switch must be installed For the most part, she is on the road. Seriously guys, this is a first for me and I still can't believe I did it , with your help of course. Man !!!!! This bike is so effortlessly powerful and handles beautifully!!! I will get a little video together of me riding it!! Chow for now !!
  23. The side stand icon is lit and there is no side stand switch connected to the bottom of the frame by the side stand. I have 2 wires going into the clutch lever, is that coming from the side stand switch? I found the 3 wires by the sidestand itself, do i connect all 3 and also the 2 up by the clutch lever? I have ordered a side stand switch that fits on the frame . Okay, I figured it out!! Tied 3 wires together and she runs fun. I will also say this. I for the first time just took this bike out on the road and OMG, this is an amazing machine!!!!!!!! After all my hard work, I finally got this ride this bike and she handled perfect. My gears shift through nicely and very powerful !!!
  24. So...................I was pretty excited to get the bike out today for its first ride. Put her on the center stand and attempted to check gears, she died when put in gear. I look down below the side stand and there is no switch. Just overlooked it and don't remember the bike having one. used one on the way.
