  1. Got her unloaded !! Heavy !! Time for a bath!
  2. Upon arrival to pick up bike, the owner had a car jack underneath the engine, he had mentioned the frame was cracked where these are notorious for such. So between the shocks been blown and the cracked frame, she sat very low. I'm going to be pretty cautious unloading, then begin the strip down.
  3. This bike is in rough shape but expected for its age. Closer inspection it might have been left outside. Radiator is bone dry. I'm going to have my hands full on this one.
  4. He's good. Mike Nixon - the motorcycle project has been in the carb business a long time. https://www.motorcycleproject.com/
  5. Tomorrow is the big day. I will try to take a video of my find and some pics too. Will post tomorrow (Friday) evening.Wish me luck !!
  6. Thanks, he is going to rebuild them now.
  7. where can I find oem float valves? My carb guy says that he cannot rebuild carbs if he doesn't have those.
  8. You weren't kidding. Seems very knowledgeable and a downright nice guy! Everyone here is very enlightening, I'm looking forward to this journey with everyone!
  9. Well, there is a possibility to pick her up this Friday !
  10. Okay, good to know all this. Thanx . Some members have given similar advice.
  11. Okay, just got off the phone with the seller. Have more info on bike. The owner before him traveled all over the country on this bike, when he hit around 80,000 miles the 2nd gear went out at which time he parked it. The current owner acquired it and just placed it in a storage shed, did nothing to it. He did inform me that he removed the driving lights the day before i called him, other than that, the entire bike is there. Sooooo, high mileage bike I guess. I'm still going to get it and maybe i can get a low mileage engine with no 2nd gear issue. So that's the latest. Thoughts??
  12. Thanks for the info. I really think I need to take a deep breath and calm down. Will check numbers when I see bike. I will do the usual when I get her home: fresh fluids, new battery, clean tank and so on, then fire her up and go from there. If I find an 85 engine with correct number, I will snatch it up. i know a good bath will do her some good!
  13. Where is the engine # located. Will there be a letter in the #'s. ie : 1N2245 . So the 2245 is what i'm going on? I must find one higher than 1413. Thanx The bike i have purchased and have not picked up yet has a failed 2nd gear, so i"m assuming the engine # will be lower than 1413.
  14. Beautiful bike. Will pick up same bike in a couple of weeks and restoration here I come.
  15. 1985 gl 1200 aspencade I rebuilt. Sold this one. took 6 months
  16. Will do. Thanks for all the tips. This is more than exciting because I know nothing about this make bike. I will start researching to become familiar and also familiarize myself with this forum. I still need to pay my 12 bucks too.
  17. Thanks very much for your compliments. Can't wait for march 20th. Will be asking you many questions on this "venture "
  18. Yes it is! Thanx for the info. I will have to find room for the big royale. Here are my other 3 bikes. White - 2006 Kawasaki 1600 I customized. Blue - 1967 Yamaha 180- took one year to rebuild. It was a barn find in 20 different boxes. Whine/ maroon - 1980 goldwing 1100 I rebuilt .
  19. If I can find a late 85 engine (2nd gear problem already fixed) Wouldn't that be a better way to go than rebuilding this one? Could even a later model engine, say 86 or 87 work?
  20. Thanks. The hunt is the best part. I will take a video when i load it onto my trailer. I get it March 20th.
  21. Man, I'm excited !. I can quit my job now !
  22. Yes, that's it. Only drawback is that its pricey but you can reuse it over and over. I still have some from a few years ago just make sure you keep cap on tight. Its the best stuff, works fast and is non toxic , odorless too. glad to help !
