please help, what would you do?
made2care replied to made2care's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I found the shrader valve on left side like you mentioned, so I'm assuming computer failed and po yanked module. I will get picks of bracket attached to rear shock. I peeked at it and everything looks solid. Thanks for everyone's help today. Until tomorrow. Oh, one last thing, where is the toolkit located? -

There is nothing inside those compartments. It's been gutted! I still have to buy a new battery so not sure what the toggle switch is for. What do you think about the long weld I discovered on the left side? So far frame looks good . Also, there is a battery in it and I'm sure it's toast, why is there a wire/ sensor going directly into the battery cell? I only use sealed batteries. -

Left side of bike, lower frame I found a long weld. Looked good and painted too. So far so good. I think with the front shocks sitting so low , that's contributing to bike sitting low. -

Okay, i am still checking the frame and so far, all looks good but still looking. Front forks are shot, will rebuild those later. Yes, I'm very careful with putting air in shocks. The previous owner said that battery acid leaked onto the frame and I don't see any sign of that. Also, I'm going to use a sealed battery. -

Beautiful bike ! okay, now the questions begin. Is there a way I can manually inflate the rear shock? As stated early by a member, the system control buttons are missing. How am I supposed to get air in rear shock. Bike is sitting too low. -

Thanks for this response and thanks to everyone for their very nice compliments. The design of this bike is what intrigues me. From the sleek fairing to the uniquely pitched saddlebags and the color for me is more eye catching than darker colors. This bike has sat a long time and I'm going to have to strip her down to see what I have. The plastics have not been repaired correctly. I use abs glue along with abs sheets . I'm extremely particular when it comes to the plastics as this depicts a true design for that decade. I will get all plastics like new and stronger than ever. Aesthetics is my strongpoint but, I agree, the frame will need fixing and reinforcing. Onward and upward!! -

Upon arrival to pick up bike, the owner had a car jack underneath the engine, he had mentioned the frame was cracked where these are notorious for such. So between the shocks been blown and the cracked frame, she sat very low. I'm going to be pretty cautious unloading, then begin the strip down. -

This bike is in rough shape but expected for its age. Closer inspection it might have been left outside. Radiator is bone dry. I'm going to have my hands full on this one. -

Okay, just got off the phone with the seller. Have more info on bike. The owner before him traveled all over the country on this bike, when he hit around 80,000 miles the 2nd gear went out at which time he parked it. The current owner acquired it and just placed it in a storage shed, did nothing to it. He did inform me that he removed the driving lights the day before i called him, other than that, the entire bike is there. Sooooo, high mileage bike I guess. I'm still going to get it and maybe i can get a low mileage engine with no 2nd gear issue. So that's the latest. Thoughts?? -

Thanks for the info. I really think I need to take a deep breath and calm down. Will check numbers when I see bike. I will do the usual when I get her home: fresh fluids, new battery, clean tank and so on, then fire her up and go from there. If I find an 85 engine with correct number, I will snatch it up. i know a good bath will do her some good! -

Where is the engine # located. Will there be a letter in the #'s. ie : 1N2245 . So the 2245 is what i'm going on? I must find one higher than 1413. Thanx The bike i have purchased and have not picked up yet has a failed 2nd gear, so i"m assuming the engine # will be lower than 1413. -

Will do. Thanks for all the tips. This is more than exciting because I know nothing about this make bike. I will start researching to become familiar and also familiarize myself with this forum. I still need to pay my 12 bucks too.
