  1. I am nit getting any fire to spark plugs. I am at a lake where I am camping. We had a tstorm come thru one day. The next day we drove it around and ran good. The next day it would crank but not fire off. I didn’t hear fuel pump run at first so pulled side panel and checked it. It is ok. Then it would’t even crank. All lights, etc came on ok. So I pulled the side panel and battery cover and checked to see if a wite had came loose. Went back later and it cranks but no fire to plugs. Any ideas where to start checking? I am an hour from home so can go get my trailer to haul it home but would like to get it running as will be camping for another week.
  2. I was afraid of that. Now to find another one like skydoc_17 sold in the past. It doesn't cause the stator to put out more than is needed like the original does.
  3. A few weeks ago I noticed my voltage was low, around 11.5 volts. I checked the wiring and found one of the wires coming from stator had a loose crimp, wire just pulled out. I replaced all the connections with solder joints. The voltage came back up to around 13.0-13.5 on the highway. I have an digital volt meter installed so I can see the exact voltage and not rely on the gauge. Today while riding I saw the gauge go up to 16 volts and noticed the digital was at 16.2. It came back down to 13.2 for awhile and then did it again. it would go up and down. When I got home it was at the 13.2 volts with engine rev'd to 3K rpm. The regulator was hot to touch, but not extreme. The battery is only 1 year old. A few years ago I put in a Rick's stator and got a regulator from Skydoc_17. I am running a LED headlight and a pair of LED driving lights. The driving lights are the only extras I have. Any ideas?
  4. Still riding my 1st gen 1990 (68k miles on it). Not as much anymore since my wife riding partner passed away 21 months ago. I have an 8 yr old grandaughter that just started riding with me. But not the same. As long as I have health to hold it up I will continue riding.
  5. I have been using the ABS adhesive made for gluing ABS sewer pipes together. It has worked well for me reattaching tabs and fixing cracks. I just open the crack, use a toothpick and wipe some adhesive in the crack and push the crack back together. less than a minute and it is set up and melted the faring back together. It also melts the reinforcements into the back side (the same way it melts plumbing pipes to attach them to each other).
  6. From what I understand 1983-1989 require resistors for stock TCI, 90-up do not.
  7. I did the COP conversion on my 90 Wednesday. I used the connectors listed in post 13. Nice connectors. I crimped the wires in the terminals and then soldered them to make sure of a good connection. For wiring, I had some spare trailer light wiring (which is 18 ga 4 different colors) to use for the negatives. I used 18 ga black for the positives since they are common. On my COP's the positive and negative are opposite of that shown in the photo. When I started the bike cold, it seemed to fire off much quicker and ran smoother. Also it got rid of the spark pop in the headset. I still have hash that sounds like it's coming from the charging system. You can push down on eithr radio or intercom knob and turn it and it will go away and come back as you rotate. curing that will be my next project.
  8. I finally got to take more pictures of how the armrests are mounted.
  9. I have some on my 90. I only have one picture of the right side one but can take more.
  10. LED's have to have the polarity(±) correct or they will not light whereas incandescent bulbs don't care. Check the polarity of the wiring in the socket.
  11. Here's another one talking about white man and daylight saving time.
  12. I think I would have grabbed the syringe full of novacain and stabbed him in the leg! AKA Tim Conway and Harvey Korman skit.
  13. My standpipe is laying in the bottom of the tank so it doens't matter where I put the selector, except when I turn if to OFF and forget and take off. Get about 3 blocks in traffic and it quits. Therefore I rely on the guage like the others.
  14. Rotella T is what I use also. I have 3 Dodge diesels and my 1st Gen. All get the Rotella T. Oil analysis always shows all wear elements are almost nil. Oil analysis company told me it was one of the best for motorcycles and they told me to run it 5K miles and recheck but I change at 3K. Engine is quieter and seems to run cooler on it than auto oil. I tried the T6 once and the engine was noisy at idle.
  15. Here's the boots I put on mine. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fork-Gaiters-Gators-Boots-for-Harley-Triumph-BSA-Norton-Honda-Yamaha-BMW-Suzuki-/121418939338?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c4521fbca
  16. I have had this happen to me before also. We all do things wrong sometimes when in a hurry or tired. I hate these new "smart" chargers. They give me fits on my classic cars when I run the batteries too low too.
  17. I found some passenger armrests on eBay. The mounting bases cleaned up good but the uprights had too much rust to polish off. I had the uprights sandblasted and powder coated for $5 each (the chrome plater wanted $175 for the pair). My question: How tight should the bolt through the pivot be? Should the uprights be free to pivot or tight enough to stay upright and still able to push the outward in case an emergency exit has to be made? Or somewhere in between?
  18. I need t replace my sight gauges. Where can I purchase them?
  19. That .5 watt speaker didn't last. Matter of fact 2 of them have already failed. The last one lasted about 2 months. I did some digging and found this 2 watt speaker. I put one in last night. Now we will see if they last longer. 20. Those speakers didn't last long. I had to replace the same one again with the one I had bought as extra. That lasted 2 months. I have now purchased the following speakers with much more power handling capacity. I put one in last night. We will see if it last longer. 21. NASA carried duct tape on the space shuttle and they have a supply on the International Space Station. Must be called out on the Engineering drawings and Minimum Equipment List.
  22. I guess I'm the only one that's had this problem. When I get time I may tear into the head and see if I can find a cracked solder joint. When it gets hot (when it's set in the sun all day) the digit comes on and stays on.
  23. My anti-dives are disconnected. I disconnected them when I also put in the progressive springs. I pulled the seat last night and found one of the connections near the regulator apparently wasn't making good contact-female apparently wasn't fitting male part tightly and had arced to point it was totally black and pitted and had melted the contact. I replaced it and now it is back to normal. I made sure the parts were mating tight this time.
