I am visiting family over 200 miles form home and my bike isn't running correctly. Ran between 55 and 60 all the way and got just about 46 miles per gallon but when I am at low rpms and hit the gas, I have a bad hesitation, I think it is missing on one cylinder until rpms get up a little then it takes off. Changed the plugs but no help. Put sea foam in and no help. Wonder if I have a diaphragm that went bad? If so how hard is it to replace? Any help would be appreciated. How do I tell which diaphragm it is?

I have had 3 surgeries on each shoulder, not for rotator cup but because of dislocation problems. Messed the left shoulder up in a fight originally and had problems with it again years later because of another injury. Right shoulder messed up in a motorcycle accident and went through 2 surgeries in a few weeks at that time to repair it and another surgery years later because of complications. All I will say it that it is no fun but each time my shoulder has been much better than it was without the surgery. As you get older it all catches up with you and I have some more problems but nothing to serious. I wish him the best and a quick recovery.

just wondering how my bike is running compared to others. 1987 venture. I have opened my bike up to 115 and she still was climbing strong. In low gear at about 15 mph, if I hit the gas hard, it will bring the front wheel off the ground. How does that compare with others. I think mine could use a carb adjustment but not to bad.

56, been riding bikes since I was 13 or 14. have had a few times without a bike but always come back. Bought my 87 venture last year after about 11 years of not riding and hope to ride steady for at least another 20+ years. My wife has back problems and has a hard time riding in a car for long distances but this past week end we made a 75 mile trip and 75 miles back in the same day without any problems, and she wants to ride a lot more now so hope to have her with for many trips and many miles also.

Clutch Switch, Shift switch?
funrider replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I believe that the switch on the clutch handle is just to kick the cruse off and will have nothing to do with your problem. The switch on your kick stand is probably the problem, if it is reading that your kick stand is down, it will kill the engine if you try to put it in gear. You can not put your bike in gear with the kick stand down. I had mine get sticky and it would even kill mine while I was riding. Lub the heck out of it and work it to see if it will start to work. -
Back on the road!!!!

awesome, great to see another 1st gen up and running. Pics of her when she has all the tupperware back on. -
have the HF changer and a Marcparnes balancer, works great for me. The first time is the most difficult, after that it gets much easier. Also change my car tires and have a HF balancer and that works quite well also.

How involved are MC inspections in your State?
funrider replied to Tartan Terror's topic in Watering Hole
North Dakota has no inspection!! Thank God, or whoever for that? Inspections would be fine but as far as riding my bike or taking something apart, no no no -
from what I have read, cupping on the tires, mostly on front tires, is normal and can not be avoided. It is caused by the pressure on the tire and the tread patterns when in a turn. The tread patters give traction but also cause a small amount of slippage, and that is why you will see some cupping normally and it will be in a steady pattern. As far as the dry bearings keeping it from shimmying, I can believe that, I just put new bearings in mine, they were so sticky when I took them apart that I decided to replace them, what a huge difference in handling and ease of handling.

I have a wing also that I would be willing to give to a fellow member, but don,t have the bracket, I am using it . I took some 1/4 inch plek glass and cut and bent it to make new ones. They came out pretty good and are much stronger than original.

got mine form the old bike barn. http://www.oldbikebarn.com/ Just put them in a few weeks ago and love the way it rides and handles now. Can put it on the side stand without it setting so straight up and down that I thought it was going to fall over.

Sidestand switch
funrider replied to dkaiser's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Mine started acting up. I took it off and just lubed it up so that it would worked without sticking and it has worked just fine ever since. -
Just got my bike running and can now tell that there is a problem with the clutch. It has had a squeak as long as I have had the bike but was unable to tell where it was and what was causing it. My clutch had started to slip so I put two flex plates in the clutch to stiffen it up and now I can tell that the squeak is coming form the clutch area. With the clutch released, the squeak is real loud, but when you pull the clutch lever, the squeak goes away almost completely. Any Idea what is causing it and how hard to fix it will be? All help will be appreciated. Thanks

Stubborn Forks
funrider replied to oldandcrotchety's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
just did the fork tub seals and new springs, when I took mine apart, the washer were also in the wrong location, they were in the bottom of the the tubs instead of on top, just like yours. When I put it back together I put it back the way the book showed. -
help Progressive springs
funrider posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I am in the proses of putting in new springs. when you put the new progressive springs in, what do you leave out? Below the cap bolt is a cap with a o ring on it, does that get left out? If you put that in, it is already higher than what is recommended without using a spacer at all. Any help will be appreciated.- 15 replies

On these bikes, the cb antenna also works as your radio antenna. You need the connector that is like used for a radio. You could also go to two antennas, one for the radio and one for the cb, then you can use the regular cb antenna end for your cb and a regular radio antenna for the radio part of it.

hay, I understand. I had a bad accident quite a number of years back, went through a number a surgeries and said I would never ride again, but it is like the wind, it just keeps calling me. After a number of years, I had to get back up and ride, seems I can't get along without the wind blowing in my face. There is a feel to being on a bike that you can't get anywhere else and it just keeps calling. I have lost a good friend in a bike accident also but the feel of the road and two wheels is something that you just can't shake. Don't fear life, live it.

My new metzeler ME880 rear tire just arrived. My brother and I bought a harbor freight tire changer ($50.00), motorcycle tire adapter ($40.00), and I just ordered a marcparnes balancer ($120.00). Has anyone used the marcparnes balancer? Seems like it should work well.

Down and out!!!!!!
funrider replied to Kurt827's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Better days will be coming. At least, spring is still on the way and hopefully you will be back in shape to ride by then and will have your bike back up and running. Heal quickly and heal your bike also. Be thinking of you -
this sound is there all the time at a low idle. It is a squeak, squeak, squeak, that you can count at a low idle, but as you bring the rpms up it becomes a whine. You can not notice it while riding. When you pull the clutch lever, it is still there but seems to change a little. I have all the body panels, fairing, windsheald, trunk, and bags off the bike at this time and thought if I needed to pull the engine, now would be the time. I pulled all the panels and bags to go through and fix all cracks and broken tabs, which had nothing to do with the squeak. The clutch is going and I will be reworking it, slipps when not fully warmed up. The squeak it rather loud, but as I said, as soon as you bring the idle up to a little over a 1000 rpms, it becomes a steady whine. Thanks.

the noise ,sqeak, is there all the time at a idle. When you bring the rpms up over the 1000 mark the noise turns into a whine. It does the noise with the clutch in or out but seems to change a little with the clutch in. It has had the noise for as long as I have owned the bike, about 3500 miles and has not changed. It is fairly loud. The bike only has 38,000 miles on it and uses no oil and runs great. Will out run my brothers 1500 gold wing, no problem. I listeded to the noise with a stethescope and it seemed hard to pin down where it is coming from.. I could try to get a sound track of the noise and post that if it would help.

Can anyone tell me how to check the timing chain tension. I have a noise that I am trying to run down and would like to be able to eliminate the timing chain as the cause. Thanks for any help.
