The Shifter bolt is a service point at the dealership. They are supposed to grease the shaft when you get it serviced. The last time I had mine serviced they didn't put any removable Loctite on it and it fell out as I was riding out west. I just put a Velcro strap on it and road it until I passed a Yamaha dealer. The dealer in Durango, Colorado replaced it for free and I haven't had any more problems with it.

I would also be interested in where to find a piece of red plexiglass. Where did you find it Buddy?

You can also mount it on the upper left part of the dash with a mount from Harley Part# 92238-09. It looks pretty cool and its less than $40.00. Just another option. Good luck!

Besides riding motorcycles, I enjoy being a Boy Scout leader which includes my favorite activities hiking, backpacking, and camping. I also enjoy riding bicycles whether mt. bikes or road bikes.

Thanks for the advice! I had to set up an account with the Zumo Forum, identified the problem, and now I'm up and running again. There is a problem with "corrupted" weather files from XM. The Zumo Forum Guys are great!

I am having a problem with my Zumo 550. My GPS works fine by itself but when I plug in my GXM 30 antenna it shuts of the unit within 3 sec. I have a friend near by who has a Zumo 550 also and when I place his in the cradle it works fine, music, traffic, and weather. I have updated the software on my GPS and been on the phone with Garmin. Now they are on "Vacation" and I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem. It acts the same way on the car cradle and the motorcycle cradle. Any suggestion???

If I were using a GPS that wasn't waterproof I would look at "Ram Mounts Aqua-Box". It has pass thru plugs for your cables and a clear membrane the you can still use touch screen. It will protect your electronics from the elements and it is lockable. Its available from Ram mounts or www.cyclegadgets.com . Check it out! It will also work for ipods and iphones.

You will have to shim the needles if you want it to quit hesitating. The extra airflow means its not getting the fuel quick enough. Had mine tuned up and I read about the air box mod and tried it. When I was running at low rpm's and rolled on the throttle it would bogg down for a couple of seconds but, if I had my rpm's up and rolled on the throttle it get on with it. I never ride in 5th at 60mph maybe 75 because it luggs the motor and it makes mine drink the gas. IF I ride at higher rpm I get alot better milage JMHO:cool10:

A buddy of mine that rides a Harley Ultra has one for his Ipod and he likes it alot. It keeps the Ipod nice and dry and he can still acess the functions and change songs, start, stop and see the screen.

If I were you I would take it to Interstate Cycle and not fool with Great Western Motorcycles. I have heard good things about them and I no from experience that you don't want Great Western Motorcycles in statesville or Yamaha of Hickory to touch your bike. I just returned from a trip to California and back. Its a long way to ride without a shock. I had mine replaced at 22,000 miles with alot of argument from Yamaha of Hickory. Yamaha of Hickory and Great Western Motorcycles are owned by the same person and to them its just a job not a profession. They don't take pride in their work. I wish you luck and I hope you can get it fixed quickly.

I removed the plastic rubber strip thats down the center of the tank. It looks alot better that way I think. I just kept the rubber strip in case I got tired of the leather bib.

I had a problem with noise in the rearend during a trip to the Southwest last summer. My dealer here in N.C. had installed a new tire and I explicity asked that they grease the rear splines and the shaft as well as the hub fingers. At about 3500 miles into my trip I started hearing a clicking sound on decelaration. I had never heard any noise from the rearend before. I made calls to Yamaha, my dealer, and a few dealers in the area ( Southern Colorado ). Yamaha said to take it to a dealer in the area but none of them would touch it. All of them in the area were snowmobile and dirtbike mechanics. My dealer said to ride it home and they would fix it. I decided to risk it as we had a sag wagon with us as well as 8 other bikes. When I got home I took it straight to the dealer and watched them tear it down. It had no grease on it as well as the bushings in the hub had moved out of position and were coming into contact with the hub. They replaced all the bushings and applied plenty of grease on all the parts. I have put 7000 more miles and have had no more problems. As for the mechanic that installed the tire and was supposed to grease the splines he will never work on my bike again. He was repremanded by the dealership but that was all. You just about can't trust any shop unless you see it with your own two eyes.

Any decent seat pads out there that work ???
tnt05venture replied to Sterling Turner's topic in Watering Hole
I bought a sheep skin seat cover from alaskaleather.com and I just completed a 5800 mile ride. I had no discomfort even on 800 mile days. Check it out! It was the best 54 dollars I have spent on my bike. -
