  1. Thanks for all the input guys! I went ahead and ordered the taller windshield, I’ll be sure to post up how I like it.
  2. thanks very much! I do get out that way once in a while with work, however, the sizes changed with the generation so no dice. Thanks again! And the Michelin’s are good touring tires. I put one on the rear of my Vulcan last trip to Sturgis/Yellowstone and they did much better than the Metz 888’s. I’m just hard on tires and only use high mileage compounds for long trips.
  3. Thanks lots everybody! I realized after we left the dealership that I had neglected to take pics! I’ll rectify that ASAP. Which for me prolly means after forgetting several more times. 10 4 on the maintenance day!
  4. So our new bike is a 91 Royale. The windshield that is on it is fogged very badly. Aftermarket options are a slipstreamer that is 22” or an 18” Cee Bailey a member has listed here. My question is which would be the best option for a 6’2” rider who hates wind buffeting? I am fond of no windshield, but I’m going to have my wife as a passenger so I have to think of riding two up as a consideration. thanks, Robert
  5. So I went ahead and became a supporting member. The reason I found this site is I was looking for a full on touring bike. My wife wants something she can be comfortable in on long rides. We looked at many bikes older and newer. One of the bikes we looked at was a Yamaha Venture Royale that was tucked away in a corner of the dealership. My wife spotted it and we tried it out. She really liked it, and it fit me nicely too. I knew (know) nothing about these bikes, so I checked out this forum. Forum browsing/lurking is what I did with almost all the bikes that were contenders. This forum is by far the best I’ve seen! What really did it for me is how accepting of other makes everyone is. I was able to find mostly unbiased info here for almost all the touring bikes we were looking at. “(Not so much the BMW R1200CLC!Lol) We pulled the trigger on a 91 venture royale with 34k miles. The very one my wife spotted. The bike is getting serviced with new tires and a new kickstand (funny story there) so hopefully we will be able to pick it up next week! Anyways, purpose of this meandering post is to say kudos to all for having a welcoming, informative site! Looking forwards to many miles, Robert
  6. Unfortunately I am going to be at my Aunts wedding that day. I live in west GA so please post things like this because it’s something I would be pleased to participate in. Thanks very much
  7. I used to transport my Vulcan 1500 in my pickup. With a heavier bike I would be very leery of being able to tour while depending on finding acceptable places to load/unload. I’d be more comfortable if I had a 4x4 bc then I wouldn’t have to worry with getting stuck in a ditch. Do do a search for motorcycle loading fails on YouTube for cautionary tales and laughs.
  8. Don’t overthink things. Just show up everyday, do your best, and let the chips fall where they may. If you give your best as you’ve been doing you won’t have to worry even if there is a microscope following you around and they ——can you in the future! You’ll just move on and be fine. And always be honest. When you succeed be honest. When you fail be honest. That will help you immeasurably.
  9. I ran a set of shinko 230s a few years ago. Great tire. Excellent grip wet or dry. I run six gap and dragons tail and drug holes in my exhaust and trimmed my subframe a little on my Suzuki 800. My riding partner had metzler 880s that started cupping badly. I ran 888s on my Vulcan 1500. Dry grip was good, wear was better. Scary in the rain. I drug hard parts on that bike too with the metzlers. My personal experience with shinko was good enough I’ll put a set on whatever tourer I buy.
  10. Twice on road trips I’ve pulled up at the destination, turned off the bike got off and set it gently on its side. Forgetting the kickstand like a genius! And about that Calvacade, two years ago my buddy and I stopped for pics somewhere in Colorado, a gust of wind kicked up and blew his vtx over!!!
  11. just a side not. Harley does require Harley brand oil. In the event your overpriced and underpowered scoot grenades it’s engine, they send the oil off before starting work. I do not know what exact additive they use, but it does mark their oil. I was at a dealership about 6 years ago and was asking about running amsoil because of being air cooled. The Harley tech told me that about their oil then pointed at a bike and said it was on its 3rd motor replaced under warranty. I thanked them for their time and left. And just FYI, yamalube is not used at the factory. I spent 3 years in logistics for Yamaha. They buy bulk oil that matches required specs. Sorry for digressing!
