  1. hhhhmmmm Deerduck or Duckdeer
  2. Look y'all gotta realize anything above 37 deg F is considered balmy up in the True North. So when we do get the 3 or 4 days a year of +50 deg stuff it can be killer. Its called climatizing.... we just ain't use to that killer heat! Add in the 21 hour days of sunlight, then them dam Northern Lights flashing away... no wonder the rear is like Niagara! Actually the fur lined seat sounds like a good idea... Come the first thaw hopefully I can dig out of the family igloo and go and check the traplines ... just gotta remember no skunk pelts this time ........
  3. I know I can't be the only guy walking around like a cowboy after a nice warm ride on the sled. Somedays can be brutal. Dam global warming. And if I don't have the wife with me to ask, I'm paranoid it looks liked I've P'd myself! Anyways I disgress........ A buddy of mine riding a '08 Ultra has these very neat looking devices called saddle shileds, and they work! But of course, they only come available for HD's ... but different models. http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/catID/0/scID/0/IMID/835 The above is a link to the Kuryalyn website where the saddle shields reside. My question: Would anyone know if the '05 RSV frame just in front of the seat, where these doohickies (technical lingo) connect is the same size or (can I dream - configuration) as any known HD's? I figure if anyone can help it would be some Super Venturer. Thanks either way.
  4. Had a buddy take me for a ride, we went STILL further west from Port Burwell to this little crossroads of a town called Sparta. A little west of Aylmer on hwy 3 and then down Quaker Rd (I think) There was a nice restaurant/tearoom we went to ... try the meat pies, chicken or steak&kidney (yum organs!) and a cool "dust collector" store with nice prices. Then the second store called Winter Wheat had artisan stuff again at good prices, with live harpists plucking away in a gazebo. Wife was in heaven, and it made for a nice little stopover before heading home again.
  5. That must be it.... bad air! After 30+ years you'd figure I'd be immune by now. But in my defense, I was looking upside down. ..... And I see some others have the cohannies to admit they were once in the same boat,
  6. So, I get a new pair of Avons Venoms put on. Love 'em, feel great all the way home from the shop. I decide I might as well clean the beast, so I get out the Mr. Clean Car Wash and scrub it down. (By the way, don't y'all just love that Mr. Clean?) I am admiring the new rubber when whats this? a dam defect in the tires? Looks like a tiny slice in the edge .... WTF.... I'm pissed... store is closed... I'm ranting and raving... when I look closer,................ its the dam SNAKE HEAD trademark molded into the tire ...... HAD TO LAUGH!!!
  7. Well, I bit the bullet and got out the drill. As described above I bore a hole in the chrome mounting bar a smidgen (technical term) below the original hole. The only things I did different where to hold the rail onto the frame with a pair of Visegrips, thereby giving me a protective little area to drill into and I put in a little baby hole (technical term) so I couldn't screw up. Worked out great and looks like it dam should. Many thanks to y'all .... again VentureRider.org saved by butt. REALLY thanks alot!
  8. I live in Dunnville, commute to Hamilton. So I know of a couple of nice ones to ride. Here is my list in no particular order: Hamilton area: Scenic Drive- check out the homes and the view Ridge Rd- killer views and a few twisties Niagara area: St Anns Rd (RR 69 I think) nice twisties Effingham Rd - twisties but a little bumpy lately Niagara Parkway - Millionaire's Row nice road and great views, even worth the ride through the mayhem of the Falls area. I like to go from Fort Erie up to Niagara Lake Erie shoreline: from Port Colborne through to Lowbanks, and then from Dunnville to Selkirk along the shore too. Second is a little bumpy but both nice rides. Thats what I've got for now.... anyone else want to add ......feel free! Always looking for a new ride!
  9. Hi folks, "Captain Inept" here. Been farting around with these new saddlebag lower rails and I just cannot seem to get them low enough so that they follow the bottom "line" of the bags. As soon as I start to tighten them :confused24:they raise up ..... tried adjusting the mounting bars as low as possible.. still no go! Any ideas, someone MUST of ran into this before? thanks
  10. Thanks alot guys, everything worked out great. Radio works, baby is out of the winter cave and awaiting her new Saddlebag Rails to be installed tomorrow morning. Then first ride of the season.... drool drool I may set my alarm for a Sunday!! unheard of! probably wont need it! Again thanks, this is the best resource for bike stuff... by far!
  11. Looking through this month's Motorcycle Cruiser and there was an article comparing the H-D Rocker with Yammies new Raider. Both sweeeeeeet looking rides, streeeeetched out and custom looking. On pg 40 there was a few pictures detailing how the passenger "seat" (pad, slab ???) slides out from the back of the seat on the Rocker. If you haven't seen it, take a peek next time your in the corner store. It is unbelievable, looks dangerous as hell. So I took it in to the mrs and asked her what she thought about cruising around on that? "Not in this %&*@#$ lifetime" she says! I think I've spoiled her.
  12. Okay guys... thanks a lot. I just got home now and its kinda dark but I will get at her as soon as possible. Hey, just wondering, is the battery part of the 5 year warranty? I will get one either way. Never thought about turning the radio on..... I will check that first.... as Homer puts it "Dah" Again, thanks a lot.
  13. I had tried to get as much riding as possible in the fall, being my first year with my '05. But I got caught by Mother Nature and I had 3 weeks of no riding before I tried to put her away for the winter. It would not start, I charged the battery and it DID start and I was able to put her away. BUT, the radio would not play. I did notice a small spark when attaching the wires to the negative terminal. I dunno?!? So as I am now able to break through the backyard glacier, and I was wondering were to begin and just what the heck to do. Fuses? and how do you get to the fuse in the barrel shaped plastic tube that sits on top of the battery? Which fuse is for the radio? After reading some other people battery woes, the radio seems to be the first thing that goes? right? So maybe it is a weak battery? Any help would be greatly appreciated. And ..... um..... pretend your explaining it to a total moron, (maybe then I'll get it). Thanks.
  14. Things must be different down south. I phoned in my return 2 weeks ago and expect it any day now. Which is good, 'cause I blew it all, big fat $160 (+ $43) on a set of rails for the bottom of the saddlebags from Ebay. And I did the same thing, chopped off about 6" off the standard windshield. But I had slammed the rear about 2" previous to that, so it looks like a shorty now. Fits me fine though. Check out my pics right after the chop in the pic area.
  15. So.... I commute about 60 km a day from Dunnville to Hamilton through back country roads. They have an 80 kph speed limit and I generally cruise in at about 90 kph. Everyday there is the same group of speed freaks flying in at about Mach 2, I always think "Gees guys just set the alarm 5 minutes earlier!" A couple of weeks ago (Feb 6 or 7) its was a real crappy morning with snow, slush and slippery. I'm leading the convoy of about 6 of us, doing 65 kph because of the crap, when in the rearview I see two pickup trucks pulling into the passing lane. The first guy splashes passed me but as the second guy tries to pull back into the lane he spins out, and splashes into the slushy ditch. I was so pissed at these clowns that I not only thought "Looks freakin' good at you, goof!" but honked my horn as I went passed. I told the wife about it, and as we were driving by the spot a week or so later, I told her the spot is just ahead. We looked up to see a freshly painted white cross, with new flowers. A roadside shrine!! OMG- I'm going to Hell for sure!
  16. I work for Stelco in Hamilton Ontario Canada My reason for asking is because they are not spending a penny on much needed maintenance and are actually going through and cleaning out any scrap steel they can find ie filing cabinets etc. I cant understand why they would buy it and then mothball it! Doesn't give a warm feeling inside. And after 31 years in the dump, lets face it, if they close it chances of getting back into male stripping are pretty slim for yours truly.
  17. Are there any members in the house who are workers at US Steel? We have recently been bought out up here in the frozen north by USS I would like to ask a few questions, especially if your company had been bought out by the same. Thanks.
  18. I just had to go and check it out, and boy am I happy I did. What a handy little piece of software. Got the baby all set up, gives you something to do during the frozen months.
  19. Thanks I will definitely look into these areas, it would seem that I HAVE to go Yamaha, so my best route is finding the best price. Thanks again.
  20. Do I have to purchase the chrome rails that go around the side (not on the lid) of the saddlebags from Yamaha? Do other manufacturers fit? Also, does the set shown in the Yammie catalogue for the Royal Star, they come to a point on the front, fit the RSV? Thanks.
  21. I stumbled across a chrome set of side covers in the J&P catolgue for $130 ... half the cost from the local gouger. Gonna be a late xmas present methinks, but I have yet to find a set of chrome rails for the saddlebags, other than from Yammie at $275. I've seen OEM's on Ebay, but with the shipping and the never knowing what the duty will be, I have not bothered. Has anyone else seen them from other manufacturers maybe? And does the set for the Royal Star (comes to a point at the front) fit the Venture too? Thanks and merry christmas all.
  22. Yes Yamaha does have one. It cost me $270 though, I am presuming Baron's is cheaper. I had the local gouger install for me too so my final tab was $400. I did forget to mention something, parking it after lowered can be a Royal pain. The slightest rise on the left side and the bike is virtually vertical, I've gone around the block just to get a flat spot!!! I did see above about shorter kickstands though, so I would like some info on that if anyone has any.... for instance, how short can I go, are there universals or do I have to go to the local gouger, and is this an easy install?? (By easy I mean could your mom crawl under and do it!)
  23. I used Yammies lowering kit on my '05, and brought it down 1 7/8" and felt a huge difference. You have to be careful when 2up, or coming out of driveways, but, it sure does ride nice. Personally felt better when "walking" the beast backwards into tight spots ... more secure. I find adding about 30 - 40 lbs to the rear shock and 5 or 6 lb to the front works nice. But I will say that less than 2" lowered on the rear, and I cut off about 8" off my windshield. It sits you that much lower. Looks good though!! Takes some getting use to, but I wouldn't go back! Did I mention it looks great!
  24. Poor guy, poor bike! Going by a buddy from work, who does seem to know his stuff, starting up idling and then shutting off builds up a liquid in the exhaust system that is very caustic and eats the metal. I heard him warning a guy who stores his bike in the winter in a garage, and then goes over to run and charge it up a bit during the wonderful Canadian winters we have. Im sure someone will reply as to my being right or full of "good intentions". Maybe something to warn him about, then ..... I see a neighbourly inheritance coming your way.... no need to thank me
