HAD to send that one off to friends, unreal where those boys rode their sleds. And you had to smile at the "snow parking" pics. I've been looking for threads showing Prestatyn, North Wales area (birthplace) but nothing so specific ... YET! I'm sure theres something .... just gotta dig! Reminds of the books Jupiters Travels by Ted Simon, I think everyone's heard of those.

Totally cool site amigos!! Not that I'd be taking the baby down any of this stuff, but great to see other peoples adventures. I get tense on gravel, can't imagine sand and water.... wanna talk top heavy then!! I've looked into tours were you get a rental bike etc, but the cost is usually so much as compared to a week in Jamaica that wifey would never go for it. As somebody once sang, " TO DREAM, THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM...." (or was that a Flintstones episode, I tend to get them mixed up nowadays)

Aaah, yes I do remember that one, and that brings back "The Power of One by Bryce Courtland" .... a kid trying to become a boxer, good story.

I had stored my bike with a buddies and he was also storing a car. Doing me a "favour" he put mothballs in my sidebags. Well, I had no mice to speak of, but those bags reeked until August and if you put anything in there it smelled too. Unless you like the smell of dead body perservative, try something else.

I think this is worthy of a posting, and I couldn't find it in the Search, so I hope I'm not repeating, it is an oldie. Check out these guys from 1953, makes you dizzy just watching. My favourite part is going UNDER the bridge. Hhhmm... future idea for the Jamboree? Just throwin' it out there ..... what better way to pick up a few new parts?? Books on Tape (cd) and CD player
dunvilsteev replied to 1joeranger's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I have a Zune (Microsoft mp3 player) and I HAVE used it for books. These were downloads from the web and the local libraries site. However, although it makes the files nice and compressed, using the least amount of storage, it does tend to store it in one big file. So, if you don't listen to the whole thing you have to either look at how far you are through the file and remember that (ie: 1 hour, 13 minutes, 42 seconds) point, or else fast forward, listening to a bit at a time , until you find you place. Real audio books, on the other hand, are usually divided into chapters so you can get back to where you were easily. Also, just adding my -
THANKS FOLKS!!! This is turning out better than I expected. Getting all sorts for my "To Be Read List". I love finding new or unheard of writers. I did forget to mention Harlan Coben, quite a good mystery writer, uses the old Hardy Boys trick of ending each chapter with a little bang so you want to read on.

Diagnosed with diabetes a year ago I obviously had a big diet change (especially Coca-Cola) and 50 pounds later I can honestly say that ..... FOR ME ...... Big breakfast, medium sized lunch & small supper, then exercise after supper so I won't pig out in the evening and ruin my workout ..... worked out just fine, about 2-3 lbs a week off. Expect to have setbacks, it ain't easy, but stick to it.... I lowered my carb numbers and increased the protein, and a morning and afternoon snack of fruit. (60 carbs per meal and 15 per snack are the Diabetes Rules- FYI) Haven't been in 32 inch pants since grade 9 (from tight 38's) and I even got an "Atta boy" from the doc when I reached my goal of 154 lbs. And GOOD LUCK FOLKS!!!

Saw this on the news, from Argentina. Just your typical motorcyclist HERO! I'd say he's a little "pumped" after the event! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8509776.stm

I can feel your pain brother. USSteel bought out the Canadian plants, got all the customers, and sent their orders south, then we were given a choice ..... indefinite layoff or take an early (mucho $$ reduction) retirement. Not much choice .... so here I am 52 yr old and fighting 18 year olds for stinkin' MacJobs. Good to see all those banking and investment criminals getting their bonuses again, hate to see them suffer too!

RIGHT ON!! When I brought this matter up with telephone flunky he promised me a return call from Senior Flunky (or maybe is was Senora Flunky?) and after liberal doses of charm, a sprinkle of finesse and a pound or two of strongarming, they saw my way and I am now being told the pesos will be back in the bank electronically within 24 hours. I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact I mentioned 55 people had read my story in the first hour of posting, and did they want the URL? Naw, can't be .... she said she didn't need it....... Wait a minute ..... tomorrow is Saturday ....... aaaaaargh they got me again

I post this for two reasons: one to let you all know about Presidents Choice Financial Insurance and two in hopes you spread the word far and wide. I had a car accident 4 years ago while turning right on a corner, a woman came from the LEFT side of me, turned right also, right into the left side of my car. Unfortunately, the donut-eater was more involved in the witnesses cleavage than the damage to my vehicle and the case was originally deemed BOTH at fault. So I went to court (cost me 3 days pay with their remands and other BS) but the judge saw the truth and I was deemed 100% fault free and the fault was placed on the other driver. I called back to make sure my insurance was corrected and was told I'd have to get the transcript of the trail and send it to the Adjusters who would deem at fault. I paid the $60 for the copy and sent it off, verified weeks later that things were corrected and was told they were. Years go by and PCF Insurance has now scewed around enough people that they decide they had better get in the brokerage business instead, so I get my new premiums and they are up 32%!! I was stunned. I call back to ask why and I am told "Thats the best rate we can do for you" I shop around and find it for the same price I'm paying now (which is supposed to be discounted 35%!!) and make the move over. While in a conference call with the new company and PCF it comes to light that I am still being charged at fault for the accident, but it also states third party liable.... can't be both! So I start to try and get this fixed. Through PCF and Crawford Adjusters and Aviva Underwriters they have me running around between approx. 10 different people all with different ways to try and run you around. Finally, I get a lady on the phone who admits to the new company it is not my fault, so I can get the new rate and leave PCF. But, in the process of trying to get things fixed I found out a little insurance tidbit: IF YOU PAY YOUR DEDUCTIBLE, YOU ARE DEEMED TO BE TAKING PARTIAL FAULT FOR THE ACCIDENT. This reminded me that I never did get back my $500 deductible, so on I fought. Then, about two weeks ago I receive, from a buddy, a funny email called "Wii for Women" with some quite graphic scenes at the end of it. But, lo and behold, he had just forwarded this on from his source, who had also forwarded it on with .... the FULL CORPORATE signature of one of the head lady adjusters from Aviva. (How stupid can some people be with email, just boggles the mind!) Naturally, I was quite happy to send that on far and wide to every living thing I could find. Oh, and THEN and I called and left a message telling her she should be more careful with her email, and PERHAPS IF SHE SPENT A LITTLE LESS TIME EMAILING PORN ON A COMPANY COMPUTER SHE'D HAVE MORE TIME TO SOLVE CLIENTS PROBLEMS. Don't play with Scorpios, they're a spiteful bunch. I am happy to say I got the cheque in the mail for the $500 last week. Coincidence??? I think not! But ..... I was looking at my banking last night, even though I had verbally cancelled 3 times, sent in a written cancellation a month ago which they admit receiving, they still went and took out the money from my account and are now saying "Whoops, sorry, we'll get that money right back to you, should be no more than 3 WEEKS." It never ends! PLEASE .... warn all your friends and family to avoid these shylocks, don't get yourself into this STRESS MESS like me. But ... if you happen to come across a forwarded email called Wii for Women.... feel free to send that sucker to Timbuktu and back!

If all else fails, you can buy this stuff called Goo-B-Gone which is exactly for old adhesive removal from painted surfaces, up in Canada you can get it at Canadian Tire.

Dah .... what a Homer! So I put the bike into the shed, but remembering how long it ran with the gas shut off last year, making a ton of noise in the shed, I shut the petcock off first , then ran through the backyard, up into the shed. Doing a little back roll and then forward and few times to get it right in place so the doors will close. The gas runs out, so I am doing it in neutral. I check the door and I am about a 1/2" off, so back on the bike roll it back and then .... dah ..... go to start it to drive it forward. The fuel pump (?) goes ticky ticky when you start, but now its going ticky ticky ticky ticky ... wont stop! Oh no, what have I done!! Run into the house, reading through the manual, trying it again with same results .... back to the manual! Getting peed off now, until I stop and think ... hey what is that ticky ticky sound ... fuel pump ..... petcock off .... no fuel but a big dam fool. Actually looked around to see if anyone was watching my antics! What a Homer!

Strictly a suggestion, for whoever gets this target, PERHAPS the next one could be you, your bike in a shed beside the lawnmower and um ... some patio furniture, the garden tools and the kids bikes. Just a suggestion ....

Just went through almost the same thing all afternoon, antivirus seem to catch it, but.... NO!! My little gem was called Antivirus Pro and was a trojan that infected like H1N1... took no prisoners! I couldn't open up anything to "restore" or repair. There was instructions to clean it out manually online but they didn't work for me, or else they have smartened up and taken extra precautions so you can't remove it. It even kept turning on the browser all by itself and switching between Viagra commercials and porn sites... well I guess it wasn't ALL bad, but still I had to do the "reformat polka" most of the aft. and then updates after updates after updates. Finally done! But it does run like a top now! That reformatting must be like a carb tune for the 'puter!!

:rain2: :rain2: Now that it looks like the bike season is drawing to a close for us unfortunate northerners, and we have got to admit that this was one WET year.... I was wondering, what is the furtherest you have HAD to ride in the rain? Myself, before my Venture I had a VStar, I had gone on a trip and was on Manitoulin Island in a flyspeck of a town called Little Current, in a motel room the size of my garden shed (for the mere sum of $70!!) with the rain pouring and the Weather Channel saying rain for the next 2 days, unless you are south of Parry Sound. I might also add that 8 hours previous the Weather Channel had said sunny with cloudy breaks grrrrr! So I had no rain gear, but I threw on the leather jacket, said screw it and rode south. Went over a plank bridge with potholes that you could see the water below through, and it was slick as ice. No questions as to my heart working! After 6 hours, trucks up my arse, freezing so bad I went into full body shivers, pulling over to pour out my boots, hands and feet turning into white raisins, just not having fun!!! I arrived in Parry Sound for their freaking Music Festival (Who knew?) with all the motel rooms filled, except for the $150 per night, high end, over priced Days Inn. Spent the evening in the local laundromat watching my clothes spin in the dryer. So about 6 hours and about 300 miles for me, felt like an eternity.

Forgot the darn camera yesterday and rode by 3 pumpkin farms, now today its pouring, yet again. Almost tempted to don the raingear .... almost!
