Had to work today...taking off Friday to get ready for our meet n eat and praying really hard the rain holds off...but what fun it must have been to just get on and go and go and go..two tanks of gas!! Lucky you!

Been keeping my eye on the roads to the North too...only thing you should be running into is construction. Kentucky Dept of Transportation says from Cincinnati to Louisville (I-71) is open but roads are under construction. Watch for workers! You should be able to come down to Bowling Green and then to Martin, TN via West KY Parkway. I think you will be fine. Let me know if you need more exact directions. Patti

Yes, the bridge is open, however, once you cross into Kentucky, you will be on Hwy 51 and there are two places that are still closed to traffic. Not sure if it will be open by Friday...not looking good yet. I hope to call Kentucky Dept of Trans tomorrow and see about the road. If it remains closed, you may have to go farther down I-55 and cross into Tennessee at Dyersburg...then you can catch Hwy 51 NORTH to Hwy 22 which will take you into Martin and the hotel.

People are getting to go back in their homes. As soon as I know something, Bill, I will post it. You may want to cross around St. Louis and drive down I-57 to I-24 and come in to Paducah, KY and then down Hwy 45. Not much further than the other way and I know those bridges are open. but will get back to you on Cairo as soon as I hear something.

Congrats Peg and Buddy. Being grandparents is so much fun. Speaking from experience (we have 7 grandchildren, 2 GREAT grandchildren)...they are totally fun to have. In fact, Grampa Don is currently playing Mario Kart on the Wii with 2 of the grandkids now. So get ready...it takes a nano second for them to wrap theirselves around your heart...and I think even less time to empty your wallet! LOL! But it's all worth it. Congrats again on a gorgeous baby. You guys are going to be great grandparents. Patti and Don :thumbsup2:

That is great guys! I know you are so proud of him. Great looking little guy. Will be a VR member before you know it! Don and Patti

We are planning on going to Eureka Springs so we can't do Meramec too. I just don't have enough leave time for all the trips I want to do. Wish we could go tho. We sure had alot of fun and some good riding in that area...although I think I had the best time sitting outside the rooms with everyone just shooting the bull. always have a good time with you and Linda. Looking forward to Eureka Springs...and you guys coming to our meet in a couple weeks. Patti

The reason being is that we have had problem after problem with the Zumo 660. don has had several other Garmin units and a Tom Tom. He actually liked the Tom Tom best out of those units. When his last Garmin died, (it was still under warranty with Best Buy) they gave him credit towards a new GPS. I convinced him to buy the 660. We are not interested in XM radio (bad experience with them) so he just purchased the 660. It certainly has alot of bells and whistles...and if you are not "savvy" with this stuff, you may not like it. I have decided this unit is NOT friendly to ME. I have tried to download music to it and messed it up. It quit working. so then I figured out it needed a "chip" (which is not included). Already had one in his MP3 player, so we put that in, but it only reads a couple of songs, not the 200 that is on the chip. so haven't figured that one out yet. Another member here has graciously offered to download some music to a chip for us. So I am waiting on that to see if that feature will work. Meanwhile, the unit has quit working and Garmin has offered to send us a battery, saying they have had problems with some of the batteries. We are currently waiting on the new battery which is supposed to arrive today. The short time that the unit did work, Don got to use it on one ride and he LOVED the fact that he could see it in the daylight. He likes that he can hook up his phone to it. He got a cable from Buddy Rich and got that hooked up (we think it's ok...LOL). He also loved the fact that a motorcycle mount came with it. IF we can just get it up and running we will be ok with it. He really misses having it on the bike. But I am like the rest here...if you are only using it here, there are cheaper models that work really well. If you want to invest in something that you are going to use for a long time, Zumo is the way to go I think. I have to say, in all our trials and tribulations here, that Garmin has been wonderful working with us on getting this unit up and running. Could be user error..not sure. We are a couple of oldies here and just not mechanically inclined or tech savvy. I sort of miss the old finger dial telephones, ya know? Sorry to have rambled on. I am sure whatever you get will be fine. It really depends on how much money you want to spend. Patti

Our son was over there last year and we are so very thankful he returned home safe. So many, as you said, have not. Even one is too many to lose. We are proud of the job they do and their service to their country. Just wish they could do it at home.

We also have a few curves and hills in NW TN. Either way it's a beautiful place to live (when we're not having storms / tornadoes). Oh yeah...and a little bit of flooding too. Mother Nature is really mad right now I think. But where are you going to live where there is not something? Snow, earthquakes, tornadoes, wind, flooding, summer heat, humidity...the list goes on and on. I don't think anyplace is perfect. So I say if you are bored with where you live, the roads you ride on, MOVE or GO ON VACATION! lol Either way, hope you ride safe. AND come to visit us in TN...and here is my SHAMELESS PLUG... B2DAD'S MEET N EAT...MAY 21ST. CHECK THE CALENDAR! Patti and Don

And Paducah KY is about to follow suit. They have raised the flood gates for the first time in several decades. Lots and lots of roads are flooded. Not just real bad here right now, but forecast is not good. More storms, hail, tornadoes predicted for our area tonite. Just gotta hang on...it's gotta get better soon. Right?
-
Please come visit us! We have had nothing but rain forever now and we have more storms forecast all week, especially tonite. If you can stop the rain, please come visit!!!

don and I were getting ready to call and see if you guys were ok. Been talking about you today and then saw your post that you were ok. So glad to hear it. The pictures on TV showed it was really bad there. Have had lots of bad weather here lately, but nothing like you got there. Still, we are tired of the rain, winds and tornadoes. Hope it gets better soon and really glad you all are ok. Don and Patti

However, on 2nd thought...maybe I should try that with Don...hmmm...then he couldn't say I didn't tell him.... THANKS BIG TOM!!!!

Might be off the bike for a while...............

As for the trailer wheels, I will defer that answer to someone else... As for the GPS...let me just tell you my experiences.. Don has had several of them...Garmin and Tom Tom. I think he liked the Tom Tom best overall...but none of them have held up for more than a year or so. Not sure why, he doesn't let them get wet (they were not waterproof). He spent more than $300 on the last Garmin, a 1490 I think...it quit on us a couple weeks ago, in the middle of a trip. I kept telling him to get the Zumo and he said he didn't want to spend that much money. In the long run..he HAS spent that much money. If you figure all the others he has had (can't remember if it was 3 or 4) if he had just purchased the zumo to start with...according to everything we have read on this site, it is the best for a bike. I love all the "things" it can do...like the bluetooth features and the MP3 on it. It also is VERY motorcycle friendly. AND...with BuddyRich's cable it will be even better. So with that being said, he finally purchased the Zumo 660 (wasn't interested in the XM radio, again that is a personal thing..) and since we just got it in this week, still playing with it, but very excited to start using it. I understand if, financially, you are limited in what you can purchase...but there's that old saying "you get what you pay for". Therefore, I am counting on the Zumo to be everything it claims to be...and LAST longer than the rest. Only time will tell. Just my opinion...

Since Don and I are nearly deaf (he more so than me) sound quality may not be that important...or is it? Most of the time he has the volume maxxed out and I have to turn mine down somewhat. Thank goodness I have my own control!! I appreciate all the info and it will definitely help me decide which card to get...or maybe I will just get more than one...one for country music and one for rock (or oldies as the case may be). Depends on what mood we are in, right? So then, does it matter if you mix music and pictures on the same card? And when downloading, will it tell you if it's full / out of memory? And ...are they all alike? As in...do you have to have a special one that will FIT the slot? Or are they all made the same way? Just wondering... Is there a gps guide for idiots? LOL
-
sounds like enough for me...but then Don rides more than I do (since he still makes me work! LOL). Appreciate all the info. I sometimes think I am too old to learn all this new "tech" stuff. It really stinks sometimes to have my grandchildren show me how to do something on the computer or on the Wii. LOL Patti
-
Thanks for the reply Don. So can you tell me how many songs you can download to a 4 GB as opposed to a 16 GB? Do you also have pictures on yours? I see that you can put pictures on it too. I have to make time to read more of the manual. LOL
-
Don just got a Zumo 660 and I downloaded music to it because it said I could. Then the GPS wouldn't stay on. Everytime I would turn it on to see if the music was ok, it would turn itself off in 5 seconds. Frustrating!! So then I deleted all but 2 songs and now it stays on and plays those 2 songs. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't download more songs. I finally downloaded the manual to my computer (since NOTHING comes with a manual anymore). It MENTIONS a 4 GB micro SD card. ???? So why in the world does it NOT come with one??? Just another dang accessory you have to buy I guess. So now my question is: Can I just go to Wal Mart or Radio Shack and buy a "card" or does it have to be the one from Garmin, which by the way costs $33 (plus shipping I am sure) and says takes 2-3 weeks before it will ship? Any ideas or suggestions? Patti

It's hard to believe she has put up with you for that many years!! LOL Just kidding! You have set a high goal for me and Don to follow. It will be 39 for us this year...hard to believe how fast time flies. Tell Joyce congratulations for us and see you guys soon! Patti and Don

You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. So glad you got back together with her. Thanks for sharing your story. If my mom were here with me today, I would pick up the phone and call her. Thanks for the memories. Patti and Don
