83 XVZ12 engine issues.. help?
Rocket replied to stevestloo's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Try seafoam again, but at various throttle positions, to clean out the other jets & passageways. Best done under load, as in riding it. Some say to ride it like you stole it, to give it a good workout. This may take a few tanks to clean it out, before changing the plugs & syncing the carbs. Hopefully you will not need to tear into the carbs, for a more thorough cleaning. -
Most rides today, were delayed or called off, due to rain AKA downpour..... I think Mike is the only one, that brought a wetsuit for pool use. But he didn't want to use it riding today, so he bought a rain suit & boots.

Splines not lubed, will cause the wear.

Good thing, Calimarie wasn't standing behind him..... Also he should of, checked his back blast area, firing now......

83 mph, I could do that in 2nd gear (pushing past 7500 rpm a little). But that is nowhere near top speed for a 1st gen. You need to do some work, to your 1st gen. Maybe start, with new spark plugs, so all 4 are firing.......

Probable cb squelch setting, try turning off the cb & see about getting radio stations. If that works, then play with squelch settings. The cb will over ride the am / fm radio, if sqelch is set too low.

Sounds like poor connections, due it being intermittant. Check the stator & regulater connections. When the stator fails, it is cooked. In the pic below, the black windings are cooked & only 1 leg is not cooked.

The "load range G" rated, should suffice......

Ok here is some to start it off. :2cents::2cents: -
These run surpisingly good on 3 cylinders, check / change the plugs especially #3 (the right rear one). Also check the carb diaphrams & carb sync. Plug wires & caps should also be checked too. I have cruised in Montanna @ 110 mph previously. Also the Coquihalla Hwy in BC, loaded down with gear @ 100 mph, then looked down at the speedo, ooppppps better slow down. Sometimes, I like to give the engine a good run & shift out of 1st gear at 50 mph (80 kmh), as I do a lot of short local trips around here & the engine doesn't get up to normal operating temp, before shutting it down.

But will he remember, to take you all the way home??????

Looks like a confirmed case, of poor eye sight (can't even see, if wife is on scoot). Might be time, for a hearing test too......... Good thing, he is riding a slower 2nd gen. :rotf:

Nope, yours took out the middle gear assy.... Engine was upside down on a bench, in pic below.

That would be cruel & unusual punishment. But put "Cupcake" in there with him, so he will have some company......
