    You could do the 2nd gear work preventativly, over the winter downtime. Some just bypass 2nd gear, as they have not gotten around to fixing it.

    Jack consider this, the 2nd gens are newer than 97........ Also I was previously informed of this set, by the Prez of J & M himself, before buying it 4 yrs ago.

    Your accommodations should be buying a new one for you...... Also are you sure, that Yammer's black cloud, hasn't latched itself to you???

    Gary, the first pic is the 83 dash (with mods above volt gauge), without the gear indicator, Neutral light only & also looks like there is a typo above. It should be If it is like the first picture, it only has a nuetral indicator.

    I recently had something similar, but I was riding solo. Running the twisties between Silverton & Kaslo. I had 3 HDs trying to keep up & a green 83 VR that didn't bother, as the rider was too busy gawking at the mountains. He later took a wrong turn (missing the ice cream stop) & a couple of ferry rides that wasn't on the day's route. This rider was the last to get back to the hotel, as a result & blamed it on his Evil Tom Tom, for the ferry rides........

    Did you pull the circlip for the shift shaft linkage & sliding the shaft out of the cover (towards engine). It is a quicker method than undoing the linkage at the tranny.

    Sounds like you did one, that "Wrongway", may have trouble beating...... If you were consistant, at giving out bad direction info, a name change would be in order.
