Help!!!!! - No Power
StarRider07 replied to StarRider07's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sorry, I should have mentioned that I checked the fuses at that spot as well as the fuses behind the lower fairing on the right foot side of the bike. All good. Is there 1 big main fuse? What else? ARRRGG! Talk about frustrating. -

I found this posted by scottybye on the ISRA forum and thought I would post it here. A letter from……THE BIKER When you see us moving past you quickly: Don't take offence or think we're trying to "show off". Ninety five percent of the time, we're trying to get out of your blind spot or taking ourselves out of a potential dangerous situation that has evolved around us. Distancing ourselves from you does not mean we want to race, but that we're giving ourselves the edge we need at the moment. When you hear our horn: Don't take offence or think we're trying to aggravate you. All we're doing is letting you know where we are in relation to you on the road, and we're more than likely aware of your inattentiveness to us while you're talking on a cell phone, eating, reading or involved in some other distracting aspect to your driving. It's important to us, and you, that you know we're there. When you hear our loud pipes: Don't become angry and hostile toward us. Yes, some are quite loud, but for some, there's a purpose behind being loud. It's about letting you know we're close by and we're constantly hoping that our investment in this accessory will help save our lives. Our pipes are really not about our ego...it's a pride and personalization to our form of transportation. When you see us in our clothes: Don't become fearful of us or think us weird. Our leather jackets, chaps, gloves and boots are the barriers between loosing massive amounts of flesh should something cause us to go down...nothing more, nothing less. Safety gear is paramount to our riding. We wear patches on our jackets, and pins on our vests. These are symbols of pride and honour within our group(s), individuals giving back to those who gave. These things bond us as a brotherhood and sisterhood among bikers. Not that we're better than anyone else, but that we have the same kind of nobility and pride in our accomplishments as you may have in the various aspects of your life. I guess one could say; our patches and pins are the decals and the bumper stickers of our involvement with society and the general public, of which we are very pleased to be a part of in our own little way. When you see us in a restaurant: You don't have to shield your child or feel intimidated. We have family, wives, husbands, children and loved ones too, just like you. We smile; we laugh and enjoy the moments we have. We are approachable, and would befriend you, if given the opportunity. When you see us in a parking lot: Don't convince yourself that we're there to "get you". More than likely, we just finished a long ride and are taking a break. Or, we may be meeting up with other riders for a charity run for young children, or another very worthy cause. We may just be admiring one another's bikes, sharing our pride with other brothers and sisters, just like you do with your personal vehicle. It's what we do...it's a part of our lives, and we'd be more than welcome to share with you what riding a bike is all about...if you'd only ask. When you see aggressive riding bikers: Don't put us all in the same stereotypical category as those whose behaviour and actions would cause you to react in disgust and intolerance. Many of us do not agree with this style of riding either, and we know and understand that human nature tends to blend us all together as the "same group". Most of us don't want that title...and don't deserve it. When you see a group of bikers on the roadways: Give us the courtesy of sharing the road with you. Please don't "move in" between several bikers in formation. This gets us very excited and nervous, especially when it's done with no due regard for our safety. Provide us with your awareness of the fact that we are much more vulnerable than you. We don't want to challenge you, for all of us are wise enough to know...we'd lose that battle. When you are turning left or entering a roadway/highway: Look, then look again...and then one more time. For we can be easily hidden, and appear to be invisible by such things as a telephone pole, another vehicle, bright lights or the glare of the sun...or possibly, the beads hanging from your rear-view mirror, among numerous other items that are displayed there. If you see us flashing our lights at you or blowing our horn, we're only trying to ensure that you will see us before tragedy changes both our lives. When you are behind us: Please give us the room we need and don't tailgate us. If you hit us, we're going down...HARD! We don't want to play games with you, we just want to enjoy the ride and the fresh air, and experience that which many of you have never lived for. If we accelerate away from you, don't interpret this action as though we want to drag race you. We're only trying to take ourselves out of a bad situation if you insist on being too close. When, and if, you experience road rage: Don't take it out on us just because we're smaller than you and more vulnerable. Think about what you're doing and the end result that may become a reality. The consequences of your actions and choices could be very detrimental to our well being, our families, our children and our loved ones. Yes, there are those that can tend to piss you off, however, rage towards them will not solve the issues, but accentuate them. Nine out of ten bikers will do everything they can to take themselves out of that situation without causing you or them harm. When you have an opportunity to talk to us: You'll discover, outside any influenced or stereotypical mindset you may have, that we are just as human as you are, just with different interests and toys. Many of us would give you the shirt off our back if it would tend to brighten your day or console you in some way. We're really no different...and we drive cars, trucks and vans too. So, meet us and greet us...I think you'll be pleasantly surprised that you'll be met with open arms. Thank you for attempting to understand

Rear wheel noise
StarRider07 replied to pappyam's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My 07 RSV developed that clicking sound at around 4000km. I took it to the dealer and he said it was those pins in the wheel. I asked him if he was sure because I thought it was the drive shaft. He assured me it was the pins and not to worry about it as they will deal with it when I get my first tire change. He also made the comment that Yamaha does not put nearly enough grease in there.- 15 replies

I asked J&M how the quality between the J&M that Yamaha sells and the ones on there site http://www.jmcorp.com/ They told me that the ones Yamaha sells are not as good as the "Value Priced" sets at J&M. Yamaha really rips us off on their accessories. I purchased 2 sets of the "Elite Series" seen at http://www.jmcorp.com/ However I bought mine on eBay for a LOT LESS. I have received them and WOW, what a sound. Everything J&M told me they would be. The sound is absolutly incredible. If you are interested, I can look up the name of the guy I bought them from. He shipped USPS and because I live in Canada, he marked it as warranty replacement and I didn't even pay taxes. ZERO. Hope this helps.

A Christmas Story When four of Santa's elves got sick, and the trainee elves did not produce the toys as fast as the regular ones, Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being behind schedule. Then Mrs. Claus told Santa that her Mom was coming to visit. This Stressed Santa even more. Then he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where. More stress. Then when he began to load the sleigh one of the boards cracked, and the toy bag fell to the ground and scattered the toys. So, frustrated, Santa went into the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered that the elves had hidden the liquor, and there was nothing to drink. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider pot, and it broke into hundreds of little pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found that mice had eaten the straw end of the broom. Just then the doorbell rang, and irritable Santa trudged to the door. He opened the door, and there was a little angel with a great big Christmas tree. The angel said, very cheerfully, "MerryChristmas, Santa. Isn't it a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?" And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.

I just got the 550 a month ago and I'll tell you, unless I am stupid, the map that came with this unit SUCKS! My GPS 5 with a 2003 map has more info in it as far as P.O.I.'s. I live in Edmonton, Alberta and when I want to find directions using the 550, to a place that has been there for years, it isn't in there. Also, before I bought it I talked to Garmin. They confirmed that the 550 has XM as long as I have a subscription and an antenna. He wanted to know if I wanted to buy the antenna at the same time. I told him that I wasn't going to pay that much money for an antenna and I would just buy a $25 antenna and adapt it to the 550. He said if I did that they would not support it. That was fine with me. Now I have the 550 and find out the XM is not in the Zumo. The receiver is in the antenna. Why don't they say : THE ZUMO IS XM COMPATABLE WITH THE RECEIVER/ANTENNA?????? It is not an antenna, it is a receiver/antenna. I b!@ched and they offered me the antenna for $125. I still told them to piss off and bought a XM radio, with antenna for $75.00. And back to the map,,,,,, I am extremely disappointed in it unless I am or have done something to it.

Hi Don. You have done a fantastic job on this site and although I don't particpate very often I do try to come visit as much as I can and will help when I can. I love coming here. It truly bothers me when people waste their energy looking for something to b#!ch about. Guess telling a blonde joke is out of the question. Come on people,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, get a life. It really is sad how things have changed. My wife works in a retail store. The staff there have been told NOT to wish anyone a Merry Christmas because God forbid (oops) someone will be offended. And sorry Don, but if anyone is offened by "God forbid", then leave now!!!!!!! Don, it is of my opinion only, I think people looking for trouble should only be told ONCE that there will be no more warnings. Second time, ACCESS DENIED! Keep up the great work. I hope you don't mind my input. I wish I had more time to spend here and more knowledge to offer more. Greg (Thor)

Well this has me a little p!$$ed. One of the reasons I bought the Zumo 550 was because it has XM Radio (with subscription). Turns out, the only antenna they sell is for weather, traffic and radio and it is very expensive. I just want a antenna for the XM radio. I can't find one anywhere. From what I can tell, the antenna hookup in the Zumo cradle is a special end. Seems while shopping around for an antenna, the ends are different for different brands of XM Radio's. I was thinking about ordering only the cable from Garmin, buying a $30 antenna and splicing the Garmin cable to it. Has anyone tried this? Is it possible? Is there an antenna that will work on the Zumo for ONLY the XM Radio? Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

Actually, I did place an order for just under $500.00. The shipping was $34.00. Not bad at all. I will post when I get the shipment.

Call UPS and dispute this charge. I know quite a few that have done this and got their money back. If the package is free, then it is free. Three people I know ordered goods from the U.S. that cost under $50 and had a $25 - $30 charge from UPS. They say it is brokerage fees. Call them. Get your money back. Don't have the attitude that it isn't worth it like some people I know. It is your money and they have ripped you off. EVERYONE BOYCOTT UPS!!!!!!!!!

1. No they will not burn them up. They are made for 12 volt system. 2. If you are talking about the turn signals/tail light, NO. They just replace the stock bulbs. If you are talking about adding LED's for effects, I have always put to battery with an inline fuse just to be safe. Red to battery, black to a ground. 3. LED's drastically reduce the amount of draw on the battery. If you put LED's to replace your signal lights one of two things are going to happen. They either won't work or they will flash quickly. If they don't work at all, then you will need a Load Equalizer. Now you are back up there with the drawing of power from the battery. In my case, on my 07 Venture, my signals work but blink fast. I don't mind that at all. In my opinion, it draws more attention to the flashers. You can test your system to see what the effect of LED will have on your ride. Take out one of your signal bulbs then turn your signal on. If the other one does not blink, they you have to have a load equalizer. If it blinks fast, then the choice is yours. I choose to let them blink fast because I wanted to save on battery load. Hope this has helped answer your questions.

Hi Cliff. I got the Eclipze for the front. When they are on, it is brighter than the higher output from stock when signal is on. The way they work is, when you turn on your signal, they go on and off instead of high/low. The part number for the front is 9561-27 and for the back 9560-26. Both can be seen at http://www.customdynamics.com/yamaha_turn_signal_retro.htm I will say this though. The turn signals are a son of a b!tch to plug in. (The tail light was easy) The end that goes into the sockets are not long enough to push in and turn. At least with the bulb you can hold the bulb and turn it. I had to use needle nose pliers to push them in and turn. When I got to the last one, it was so tough to do. I ended up stripping the little nipples off so now there is nothing to hold it in. I called Radiantz and she (forget her name) is sending me a new end free of charge including shipping. Very nice of them. I love dealing with companies that care.

Well, thanks to all of you that gave me your opinions from your experience. I ordered the Radiantz brake light and the turn signals. WOW! I am impressed. The tail light is brighter than the stock. Actually, like some of you have said, the tail light it is brighter than the stock brake light. And the brake light that comes from this LED board is amazing. The turn signals are so bright. Again, thank you all. What a great site! What a great bunch! Greg

I must admit that i have never taken the MSF course. I know I should. Something that really confuses me though............. I was sitting with a group of 5 guys (having coffee). One of the guys was a MSF instructor. Topic about breaking came up. He said using front brakes to stop or slow down should NOT be used. Said the front brake should only be used to assist. He made a comment that he was so surprised at how many riders use their front brake when coming up to a red light or stop sign. A couple guys then spoke up and said that riders that use their front brakes don't know what they are doing and should take the course. (See why I am confused) Now that was contrary to what I have heard before and reading here. "USE THE BACK BRAKE". I have had one dealer tell me that front brakes should not be used that often. He said that the rear pads should always wear out first. Another dealer tells me that I should be using the front brakes more.
-
Funny you mention that. I just bought an 07 RSV on Sep 9. About 2 weeks ago, my front brakes are doing the same thing. At least from your description. I also get a sound that I can't really explain. Not a squeel, not a grind. More like a rubbing. Can't describe the sound. No it is not the sound coming from the holes in the rotor. I know that is normal. Greg

Has anyone ever order from: https://www.rickroushaccessories.com/store/index.php Their prices seem very very good. The only contact method is by contact form on the site. There is no phone number, address or email address. Would like to hear from anyone that has had experience with them. Greg

Hello everyone. Got to know that I am going to make the right purchase. I am looking at LED tail light by Radiantz for $60 at http://www.customdynamics.com/Yamaha_tail_retro.htm However at http://motoled.com/shop.html they talk as if that light is not bright enough and they sell the High Flux LEDS for $130.00 that are supposed to be so much brighter. Now maybe they are brighter, however are the Radiantz bright enough? Must say that I really like the lens cover at Motoled. Clear front with red sides. I think that is sharp looking and you can't see the board through the sides. Anyway, also wondering about the turn signals from Radiantz compared to the ones at Motoled. I don't think there are many of you that have had both brands to really compare, however there are a lot of you that have bought the Radiantz and some that may have the Motoled. Do you find that the tail and signal lights are bright enough? Are they brighter than stock? Motoled claims that super bright LEDs are NOT as bright as stock. Of course they may be bias. They do have photo comparisons at the bottom of that page at Motoled. Really looking forward to your opinions. I would like to see a few replies to get different opinions. Thanks guys/gals

Thanks Firewalker. If I find that most say the same thing, then I am comfortable that there is not a defect. Greg

As I mentioned on my other post, I just got 2 sets of J&M Headsets. I can't install them into the helmets however I did hook them up and put the speakers to my ears. WOW!!!!! what a wonderful high quality sound. These are amasing. However, when I plug in the headset, 2 things bother me: 1. After selecting HS on the system, I get a hum/hiss sound in the headset even when the volume is all the way down. 2. I still get sound (radio, mp3, whatever), although faint, from the rear speakers. NOT the front. And this happens when I plugged into the front jack as well as the rear. Anyone have the same problem? Thanks Greg
