Kuryakyn ISO grips and end weights
Pecker replied to Jethroish's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
There is a pretty simple solution, take your Dremel (or any grinder) and grind off the raised area of the bar end weight. On the left side weight all you will need is a longer screw to re-attach the weight, the throttle side weight will require a short brass 1/4" pipe nipple approximately 2" long. This will slide over the screw after it is inserted through the weight to keep the weight from clamping down on the throttle. One other thing, after you have the grinding complete, tape off the chrome on the weight and paint the area you have just ground to keep it from rusting. If I have confused you, send me a PM with your e-mail address, and I will try to do a better job and throw in some pics. -
Venture or Tour Deluxe?
Pecker replied to Bobcatpat's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I guess I'll throw my two cents in here. My question is, do you plan to ride mostly during the warmer months? The RSTD does emit some heat, but the RSV is down right steamy when the outside temps hit 85 or more. I like the RSTD because I am not as isolated from the elements. Not knocking the RSV, it has a lot of upside, but if I want to be that sheltered, I would be just as happy in a ragtop car. I will probably catch some flack over this. I am not wanting to put the RSV down, it is just not what I want out of a motorcycle. What ever you decide to buy, I hope you enjoy it. -
Not running the Nasty Boys, but have installed a couple of sets. No gaskets needed. They will seal nicely, as long as you slide them far enough onto the header. A little anti-sieze helps a lot. If you need to persuade the pipes a little, use a block of wood and a hammer to LIGHTLY tap the pipes in place. Should not be too difficult. BTW, I love the sound and the looks of these pipes, hope you do too.

Hey Mini, I feel left out. Where is does the pic of the Tour Deluxe go? Not all of us ride plastic bikes, now! Looks like you put some effort into this, looks good. I'll pass on the shirt, but still plan on seeing everyone in August. Guess I can wear that sharp looking orange t-shirt!

I have straights on my RSTD, went with 2" mostly so they would blend with stock headers. They did mess up the carburetion a little on the bottem end, but I wanted to open up the air boxes some any how. Had to work with the fuel delivery some, raised the needles and changed the jets. I didn't make any notes though, didn't occur to me at the time:bang head:, so I couldn't tell you the jet sizes without pulling the carbs. Had to play with it a few times using an exhaust analyzer, but finally got it dialed in with an almost optimum fuel mix across the board. Lot of work , but definitly worth it, she runs like a scalded dog. I have added short baffles for noise control, but they didn't change the fueling at all (nor the sound level for that matter). By the way, they sound great, but are quite loud, not for the faint of heart. Sorry its such a long post.

I usually tell I don't own a Hardly cause I don't have a trailer to pull it around on. That almost allways gets a "discussion" started!

Did I see something about a cook out? Looks like I might have to make a second trip to MB. Ain't no way I would bring all my buds with me, they eat too much. Well, I will have to see when you plan on having a get together, then see if I can play sick, no I meant ask politely for a second day off that week. Hope I can work it out, looks like we might be able to call it a meet and eat.

After market seats for RSTD
Pecker replied to roadwarrior's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Well, I have my seat back and gave it a couple of rides. One ride was around 200 miles, mostly on the interstate. Gotta say, the seat is SOOOO much better. I used to get sore right at the bottom of my spine, didn't seem to be a problem. Sorry it took a little longer to give feedback, I was called out of town for business. But I would definately recommend having this stock RSTD seat modified. The only thing I would do differently, I'd probably give Rick Butler my business, just to keep it in the family. BTW, the seat looks exactly like stock, and it took exactly a week from the day I shipped it off to the day it was delivered to my house. Hope this helps.:cool10: -
After market seats for RSTD

Hey Rick, I think this is the first time I have touched base with you, however, I have read some of your prior posts. I have no doubt in your abilities with a motorcycle, actually think some of your ideas are pretty brilliant. :bowdown:I had the impression that your seat mods were more of a favor for some friends of yours, didn't know you were doing this for just anybody. Had I known that, I would have had you do my seat. Guess thats what I get for not contacting you and asking. BTW, my seat should be back today, it's been a week, I'm staring to get riding withdrawel syndrome. I'm starting to catch myself at my desk turning the fan on high and going "vroooom vrooom", coworkers think I'm nuts (ok they always thought I was nuts, they think I'm getting worse!). -
:crying: No No No!!! This can't happen!! The refs were on the KU payroll, no wait, I know what happened, Bill Self spiked Carolina's Gatorade. No, Ive got it, Kansas sacrificed a chicken before the game and put some VOODOO on my Heels. Yea, thats what happened! OK, seriously, the better team won, there I said it,now I feel so dirty. Congrats to the Jayhawks they deserved to play for title. Great game for them. Don't reckon the NCAA would let us go for the best 2 out of 3 do ya. Looks like I'm wearing Kansas blue next weekend. Thats going to hurt.

After market seats for RSTD
Pecker replied to roadwarrior's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Just wanted to pass this on to everybody. I just sent my seat off to SpencersMoto Care in Fla. for modification. They basically rebuild the stock seat to fit the owners a$$ better. For a few dollars extra he will put a gel insert in. Bottom line, I sent my seat and $75 for all of the work including the gel insert. I will post my thoughts as soon as I get the seat back. I decided to try this because I hate to part with 5 or 6 Benji's on a seat that may or may not fit me, $75 is a lot easier to swallow if the seat isn't any better. Check out the website, www.greatdaytoride.com. Hope this info helps, again, I will post my opinion when my seat is returned. -
:doh:Won't be riding the bike this weekend, I sent my seat off to get it modified. The seat isn't going to be back till Monday or Tuesday (hopefully). So I guess the carb tune is out until after the Va M&E, unless you are bringing your carb tune along. If so, maybe we can do it that Sat evening at RiderDukes. Now as far as the games go, I'll call you Thursday or Friday to work the time out. Now, what size t-shirt do you wear?

Man, the title had me a little worked up, guess the Mod Squad wouldn't allow what I was thinking:whistling::2143: The road sure does look like a lot of fun, almost as much as what I had in mind!!

GO HEELS!!!! I have felt all year long that this years team was one of the best that ever wore the Carolina blue uniform, yes better than the '82 team. PsychoT is just a monster. I hope the Dookies have HD, thats as close as they will get to that Final Four experience:crying::crying: !!! Hey George, are we going to have a little side wager on this game? I'm thinking maybe a t-shirt bet, loser wears the winners colors. I think you will look good wearing Carolina blue.:rotf:

:2143::2143::2143: Now, I hope all of the names will be removed from these pics to protect the innocent! I think everyone enjoyed this M&E, seems like we all had a smile on our faces after lunch. Thanks, Poledar, for putting on a great meet. I met a few more family members for the first time, and caught back up with a few I have known for a short while. I am looking forward to the next M&E already.

Sorry I missed the ride, I had to put in some overtime this past weekend. Didn't even get the message till this am. Hope ya'll had a great time, guess I,m really sad that I missed out on George's detailing. My scoot sure could use a good cleaning! I will give you guys a call Thursday to get our plans ironed out for Sat. I am certainly looking forward to the M&E.

Waiting to buy...
Pecker replied to Principal's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
:scratchchin: The only reason I can think to NOT buy is if you like to spend a lot of time wrenching on your scoots before you go riding. These things are almost maintenance free. The ride is very smooth, engine pulls good, ergos fit me pretty well too. A new seat is all thats needed to keep it livable, of course most bikes have crappy stock seats. Hope this helps, good luck deciding.
