6 freakin hours to mount one tire? Free tire mounting is not worth six hours of my life sitting in that boutique they call a Honda shop. I could only take so much of looking at Goldwings and VTX's. I would have helped you spoon that thing on in my driveway, would take an hour or so and only cost you a six pack of Bud lights! :thumbsup2:Glad to hear your headed to Vogel, when are you leaving? Sleeperhawk, his wonderful mechanic and I are putting it in the wind about 5:30 Friday morning. You are welcome to tag along. Let me know if want to, I can pm you with the rally point.

Thunder Tower Harley is literally in my back yard. I live just a few miles away from the dealership. Let me know if I can help getting you and your new scoot together, I would be glad to help out if I can. Oh yea, welcome aboard! I just read ALL of your post, if you do need a ride from the airport give me a shout. I'm always looking for a reason to leave work early.

Aero-Dynamics question
Pecker replied to jfoster's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
It seems great minds DO think alike. Thats what I love about this forum, you get some help here or there, you give some help here or there. We all win! Glad you found a solution. I wish all of lifes little problems were so easily solved! Now you need to figure out how to post pics. -
I just heard today that Suzuki won't release 2010 models until Jan or maybe Feb. Sales have been so slow, they want the '09s a longer chance to sell before they are considered "last years models". Rumour is that all of the Japanese manufacturers might be doing the same thing. I wonder if they offer the "Cash for Clunkers" for bikes? I've got an old GS 550 that would qualify! $4500 towards a new Raider would be SWEEEET!

It sounds like you are referring to the idle circuit mixture screws. If that is the case, that screw will either richen or lean out your idle circuit depending on which direction the screw is turned. That being said, I wouldn't suggest just randomly turning these screws without some diagnostics first. Many a carb has been screwed up by people trying to tune them without some decent knowledge of their inner workings. My suggestion would be hooking up with a member that owns a color tune kit AND knows how to use it. I am sure others here will chime in and color in the rest of the picture.

Freezy, the first part of my post was purely in jest, nothing I do should be taken seriously. My wife often says I am an eight year old disguised as a 40 year old man! I too do not want to start any serious debate about loud pipes or the abilty (or inability) to save lives, I was just having a little fun. I do not want to promote nor deter people in their choice in aftermarket exhuast fashion, it's their bike and their choice. I appologize if I may have hit a nerve, that was not my intention.

There is an easy fix for this whine, it'll cost you about 400 bucks and can be done in a couple of hours. Order a set of Baron's Nasty Boys slip-ons and install them, then your good to go! There is an added bonus to the pipes, the neighbors will just love em! Seriously, you can try having the clutch basket changed, it may or may not solve the problem. I wouldn't put that off too long, your bike is still under warranty, until 2010.

New to RSTD some brake questions
Pecker replied to Judes Dude's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Bob, You brought up some differences in the bikes I hadn't even considered. I can see how all of this plus your personal feel can make for a more confidence inspired turn. I went with the narrrow MT90 front tire and love it, felt like it took 100 lbs off the front end. Good luck with the Ride Like a Pro video, it takes alot of practice and dedication. But if you stick with it and beleive in it, you will gain a ton of confidence. -
NewVenture, I have a set exactly like what you describe. The left one has a good bit more flow. I have color tuned and synced my carbs and can't quite get the bike to smooth after putting these darn things on. Youa re correct, there are NOT any cats in these mufflers. I amy try to knock out that plug you were talking about on the right muffler. If the engine doesn't smooth out after that, these things are coming off. I like the sound, just don't like the rough running engine.

Aero-Dynamics question
Pecker replied to jfoster's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I feel the same thing as you describe, but I welcome the extra breeze especially in the summer. Now in the winter, it would be nice to have that little bit of air blocked off. I would be concerned with the looks of something sticking outward off the side of the tank. Might consider trying something that had a magnetic base to it, but then, would it stay in place for any length of time? Good luck figuring this out. -
saddle bag lid bras

You guys know the rules, we gotta see some art work!!! Seriously, I like the sound of these, the E Bay pics don't show off the leather very well. So if any of you have decent pictures, I would love to see them. Thanks -
New to RSTD some brake questions

Hey Bamico, I have to get a jab in every now and then, just to see if you guys are paying attention! I do have a question for you though. You say your Venture feels better at low speeds than the RSTD. I have ridden several Ventures, and not once did I feel the Venture handle better in slow situations. I'm not saying this to talk down about Ventures, my point is, they carry significantly more weight up higher, which will make a bike a little more uneasy in slow speed manuevers. Could it possibly be a difference in tires? I am not disputing your statement, it's just inquiring minds want to know. -

Well, I will throw my 2 cents in here. As far as the front brakes go, I would do exactly the same thing you plan on doing. New pads don't cost a fortune, but they are worth a mint to keep your butt out of trouble. Now for the tire situation, you didn't say what size tires are on the front or rear, so I will assume they are the stock sizes AND they are inflated to the proper PSI. I run two different brand tires(Metzler on the front & Bridgestone Spitfire on the back) on my RSTD and don't feel any adverse effects. But I have felt what you describe with different brands mixed on other bikes I have owned. My personal opinion on the iridium plugs is they are not worth the extra cash, sure they may last longer than the stock version but they won't show any performance gains. Just throw a new set of stockers in every year and forget about it. Always glad to have another RSTD rider here, help keep these geezers on their Venture road sofas in line! -
Hey Don, :sign07:Sorry I missed your calls yesterday, had my the ringer turned off. Call me any time before 9:00 PM. Dave

No Voyager kit here, nor am I within 300 miles, but I have installed Voyager kits before. Did a bout a dozen of them at the bike shop I used to work for. If you have any specific questions, maybe I could answer them. If you are considering buying one, I would be willing to help you install it, would save you a few hudred bucks. Just something to think about.

Hey Boo, I would love to get together with you, but I'm in Elgin, SC not Elgin, Ill. As far as the fuel mileage goes, maybe I need to rephrase myself. I am sure you are getting the mileage as stated, I guess I am just envious that I can't get it. Maybe it has something to do with how fast I get to 70 MPH. I do tend to hold second and third gear a little long. Sounds like you haven't done anything exotic to get the mileage up, so it might be riding habits. BTW, didn't we meet in Asheville last year? At the BBQ joint.

I have ridden with Sleeperhawk several times, our fill ups are usually within 1/2 gallon difference on the same number of miles. I almost always burn just a little less gas than he does. Of course I ride solo and don't have the fairing or trunk, BUT I'm not carrying all that extra camera gear either.:crackup:I would love to see close to 50 MPG on my bike, but if I have to do 55 MPH all the time to see that, well that just aint gonna happen. 50 MPG at 70 MPH, I'll have to see it to beleive it.
