It's very easy to install, you just have to unbolt the windshield assembly and drill a couple of holes through the bottom of the pouch bracket (it's plastic, so even a cheap drill will work fine). Then line it up and bolt the windshield assembly back together. Takes about 30 minutes or so. I'll run over there Saturday or Sunday, if the price is still about the same, I'll pick one up for you.   6. That's a great price, wish I was needing it. I'm pretty sure you won't have much trouble selling it, it seems Yamaha is no longer offering the luggage racks. Dave
  7. The open hole you have there is plugged by a rubber plug (look on the other jug of that side). Not sure if that is considered a freeze plug or not, I assume it is. Anyhow, purchase a new one (or find the one that fell out) and it just pops right in by hand. If it just fell out, I would buy a new one, shouldn't be too expensive. Dave
  8. I hope you can find a used one. Buying that thing new from the dealer is EXPENSIVE!!!! I'm thinking you can't just buy the whole windshield and mounting system in one piece, but have to order every single item (nuts, bolts, left & right latches, the windshield and brackets). Yamaha doesn't make it easy to replace some of these items. Dave
  9. Boy you sure are particular about the shape and look of a shorty helmet! Have you tried any of them on to see if they are actually comfortable? Would hate to see you spend your hard earned money on a lid based soley on its looks for it to be so heavy or uncomfortable, you couldn't stand to wear it for more than 10 minutes. I'm just saying, it's as much about comfort as anything. Dave
  10. Mine does not sit down on my ears, it's close but I can still bet my sunglasses on without any trouble. Perhaps your friends helmet was too big for you or you havean odd shaped head. Dave
  11. I have the Vega XTS. I find it very comfortable and lightweight. The vents in the forehead are totally worthless, can't tell if they are open or closed in the summer. I don't consider it too wide, but that is kind of a subjective opinion. I would certainly recommend the helmet for those looking for a shorty. Dave
  12. Started out as a light wheeled mech. in the Army, pulled five years and traveled all over the world. Went to local Community College to get a 2 year certificate in diesel tech. Worked 15 years for a trucking fleet, started out as a 3rd shift lube tech, worked my way up to shop manager of 2 shops. Got burned out running between the 2 shops, decided to go back to school to get more education. While in school to earn a degree in Mech. Engineering, I worked at our local Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Can-am dealership as a technician. After earning my degree, I have been employed at an automotive filter manufacturer as an applications engineer, 3 years down the road, I am being layed off. I think I'll get back to turning wrenches, I can just about do that in my sleep. Dave
  13. I was going to respond with something smartassed, but it seems several beat me to the punch. My thoughts on bringing a bike out winter hibernation concern how it was prepped for the winter. Did you change the oil before it was put to bed? If not, then change it. Did you put some stabilizer in the gas? if not, then drain and refill the tank. Was the battery pulled and put on a trickle charger? If not, have it tested/replaced (it will probably be bad) Did you lube all of the cables? I guess you can see where I am going with this. My point is, if you do all of the service items in the fall/winter, all you will realy need to do is drop a battery in it, check the air pressures,check the lights and ride. Hope this helps. Dave

  16. And the gal that rides it. Nice lookin' scoot (if you like pink), that thing is flawless, not a scratch on it. The white seats set it off real nice. Nice lady too, she definatly can ride the wheels off a bike. Dave
  17. I have been running a 170/80 Spitfire rear for over 2 years now and absolutely love it. Yes a 170/80 will fit. The only reason I went with this size vs the stock size is because the Spitfire isn't manufactured in the stock size. The Bridgestone Spitfire is a dual compound 4 ply sport/touring tire, it handles well and lasts a LONGGGGG time, and the price is very good. I did clearance my fender braces on each side, the tire was just a little too close for comfort, but the drive shaft tube has about 1/4" clearance with no modification. I am not posting this info to say anybody needs to use this tire brand or size, I am just passing on info as to what I am using and why. I have attached some pics to help ease the mind. Dave

  19. I'll be willing to help you test out a shock setup. Don't "Crash test dummy" is the worst thing I have been called. I've been around and around with Yamaha over my shock failure and I agree, a change should have been made years ago. So count me in. Dave

  21. Here is a link to the site - http://www.dansperformanceparts.com/buggy/intake/buggyintake1.htm Scroll down about 3/4 of the page, they are named Type 3/4 ICT Air Cleaners. No rejetting was needed. You will need to find an adapter to connect the outlet of the filter to the inlet of the plumbing leading to the carbs. I can't recall what the sizes are. There is another thread on this forum that has all of the details, I'll try to find it and paste a link. Dave
