I don't know you and you don't know me....but, I just HAD to say thanks. Today I installed a headlight modulator and ran the wire for the new passing lamps I'll be installing (when they arrive:bang head:). Anyway.....The tech articles on splitting the fairing & gas tank removal were just awesome. Thanks again and hopefully one day our roads will cross!!

I just installed the one that CMIK gave you a link to. It's amazing, way better than I expected. I also installed the brake light modulator at the same time.....worth every penny!!!

Modulator location.....
stvmaier replied to stvmaier's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks for the input, hadn't thought of that.... I went through a list of state by state motorcycle laws and all the ones I looked at said the modulating headlight was legal (daytime only,of course). I could have missed a couple states. -
I just recieved my headlight AND brake light modulators. Where did you all mount yours and make the connections???? I heard you can access the brake light wiring under the seat.....and I'm going to be mounting the Yamaha passing lamps at the same time (useing the relay), so I assume I'll have to seperate the fairing....and that's Probably where I'll install the headlight modulator. Any tips or advise would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks all!!

Question on passing lamps
stvmaier replied to stvmaier's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That's an interesting point.....hadn't thought of that!! Does the tank have to come off to run wires?? -
I'm getting a set of the yamaha passing lamps soon. My question is this...I've read a lot of posts where you use a relay to hook them up. Is there a reason not to hook them up the way Yamaha says to?? Does it cause a problem if you don't use the relay??? :confused24:I understand that by using a relay you isolate the circuit and reduce the load on the headlight circuit.... and I'm sure that's better, but is it necessary??? Thanks folks....I'm sure someone will clear this up for me.

Last year I was happy about putting 3500 on my VTX, sold it this spring and got my RSV at the end of may...6700 grinnin' miles. Not much riding time left here in the Chicagoland area.

BUY IT!!!:mo money:I paid about 2 grand MORE:bawling:for mine. But it was the only one I could find within a 3-4 hour drive!!
-
I just got one in may...17,800 out the door(included destination/set-up fee,tax,title,license....everything) Also got them to "throw in" a luggage rack (installed) for that price. Problem I had was...nobody will talk numbers until your at the dealer.So...only one dealer within 3 hours of us had an 08 in stock (and they only had one)......they didn't deal much... I've seen alot of places on line offer a lower price,but...sometimes they'll rape you with fees. And it's nice to be able to take your bike in for sevice where you bought it. Good luck on your search!!:mo money:

I bought a new '08 in april. The first week of june the wife & I went on a 2800 mile trip that took us through most of the South eastern states. The rear end did start making a clicking noise when coming to a stop, turned out to need grease on the splines & drive fingers(warrenty). No harm done....just annoying. My tailbone was sore after riding three 500 mile days in a row....but there's a seat mod that will fix that (somebody on this site does it for 35 bucks..). Most importantly....the wife LOVED it!! It has plenty of power & will run as far and as long as you want to. I love it. As far as riding around town... After about a month of driving it....It doesn't bother me anymore, guess I got used to it. I'd do it all again in a heartbeat!!

in addition to the disc brake quiet, while the pads are off, bevel the edges of the pads with a file or die grinder.....mine made the squeal and grinding noise every time i stopped, now they are very quiet!!

What an amazing trip that must have been. Congrats!!!! Hope you had a blast!!!
