I think I'm with you Casey. I LOVED my '91 Royale. Of course that might be also because it was my first FULL DRESS. I sure gave her a lot of love! In this pic she's 10 years old with over120,000 miles on her. The paint was custom done in "96 Dodge Viper RT Blue. It made that chrome POP!

Is my Gen 2 clutch slipping or do I have a Slipper clutch?
ChiefGunner replied to VentureFar's topic in Watering Hole
Not familiar with this year Venture, but doesn't it have the same motor as the MK2? I rode my '91 pretty hard and kept having to replace the clutch parts. I found a tech tip on the old VTS website that stopped the problem. The motors are great, but the weakest point is the clutch due to using that ONE concave ring as the clutch spring. That ring sits in a retainer basket as well. I discovered that you could STACK a second spring ring ON TOP of the other and the retainer basket was still holding them both. Once completed you will DEFINITELY feel a difference in the clutch lever pull, BUT when I romped on my throttle the front end of that MK2 went UP IN THE AIR! no more slippage and all that torque had to go somewhere! Never had to replace my clutch plates & rings again after that. -

No, if you have the standard clamp for 1” tubing. I think they make one that is sturdier and has locking splines on it. You only have about 1/4” clearance, so if thicker then you’d have to trim plastic. The problem is on the backside of the bar is the rear housing on the fog light. I wouldn’t want to cut into that. -
Thanks for the info. Maybe I should say 2nd Gen Venture Royale? MK2 works for me too. Was a wonderful bike, but this new SVTC is the cats meow!

Depending on your height & leg length, at least the 3”. The straight out ones aren’t enough. -
FINALLY! Aftermarket parts for 2018 SVTC

I’m going the same route myself. I just need to wait a little. My wife says I’m blowing my allowance on what she calls “bike foofy”. Am installing the backup camera and a 7.5” LED light bar with knight rider sweep on the dash below the screen. I’m tying it into the alarm system so that it SWEEPS when the alarm is set. It’s gonna be a great visual deterrent & look Bad A$$. -
Absolutely! I have the Yam full cover and I use it. Had one for my 2nd Gen ‘91 as well. You don’t spend that much in a bike and then neglect it. At least I don’t.

Just a heads up to the SVTC riders. I got my baby Dec 29th. I’ve got 4868 miles on it so far, but at around 3k miles I noticed what looked like WEAR SPOTS appearing along both sides of the tank. I don’t wear leathers, only jeans like everybody else. It was getting progressively worse and didn’t make sense. The dealership took pictures and conferred with Yamaha about it. She’s always garaged and I’m SUPER CAREFUL about her. Earlier this week I was gonna go see if I could get somebody to buff it out, but they couldn’t. They stated it felt as if the clearcoat was “raised”. That set off alarm bells, so I went to a Pro paint shop & had them check it out. Their determination based upon age of the bike, miles and clothing while riding is that it’s a PAINT DEFECT. I supplied the dealership with their written diagnosis which they forwarded on to Yamaha. Bottom line is that I’m getting a new gas tank next week. I only bring this up so that you SVTC riders can keep an eye on yours as well. Ride safe & ride proud my brothers!

Same thing I did. When it gets worn it’s easily removed and replaced! -
Most kind of you Puc. Even having served myself, I always thank others who have served as well. Especially Vietnam Vets. They were treated SOOO badly. I went up one time to a Vietnam Vet in a wheelchair who had lost his legs. I thanked him for his service & sacrifice; and even though I didn't do anything wrong myself, I tell them "On behalf of the American people I apologize for the way you were treated. I'm so sorry." I've had a few break down in tears telling me " You don't know how much that means to me." ANYONE who has served, whether reserves or Coast Guard deserves, whether a year or 30 yrs deserves gratitude & respect because EACH ONE has at one time signed a blank check for his life to the United States "PAYABLE ON DEMAND". MANY of those checks are "cashed".

COOL! Sounds great. Look forward to meeting some fellow Venture enthusiasts!

Star Venture Highway pegs

Original was pretty hard. You obviously haven't seen my seat. Had it custom upholstered and had padding added and the tufting deepened for a better "scoop" Go check out the pics on the thread "You can never spend too much on your a$$". -

You are correct! I’m looking at getting the Ergo II with extended arm and adjustability front & back. Not cheap though. They fit no problem on the lower bar just behind the fog lights. the extension mount enables them to be higher than the front of your floor boards because that mounting bar is so low. -
Is your center stand broken? My 2nd Gen Venture Royale (91) came with it. UPDATE: Boy am I a DUFUS! I need to check how VERY OLD some of these threads are!

I think your idea to deal with the cord is gonna be kinda harsh on it. I’m 6’3” and when I’m connected up, my cord does not touch the tank at all. I have however noticed a small rub spot occurring where the headset port cover is. I installed a smal piece of that clear film to protect the area. Problem solved & no added stress to the cord. -

I’m in your corner Moose. Definitely a probable scratch & wear item. -
Oddly enough, Yamaha did NOT include a trial of Sirius radio. Kinda cheap of them IMHO. For those of you who have thousands of mp3’s Like me, you can put them on a USB and plug into USB1 (right front) and play all your own music.! TECH TIP: I was already on the horn with Yamaha about this & discovered what they couldn’t. IF you put the songs on a USB, you MUST open the properties of EACH SONG and verify the information is filled out. SPECIFICALLY the song TITLE, ARTIST, ALBUMN & GENRE. If you do that the infotainment system makes it searchable and you can play your music by GENRE or ARTIST etc, otherwise it just plays them in order. No seachability. Hope the info helps!

Did your SVTC come with a toolkit?
ChiefGunner replied to DougS's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
It sure did! You need to get on them about that. Did you get 2 helmet cables as well? You’re supposed to have those too. -
Myrtle is only a 4hr drive for me. I’m game! Is somebody gonna put out specifics of the event? Ie, camping, accommodations etc?

Hey Joe, Retired Chief Gunners Mate here. What was your rate & when did you retire? It was Jan 98 for me. P.S. Thank you for your service shipmate!

Lifting the SVTC
ChiefGunner replied to DougS's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
I got mine from Harbor Freight on sale for $69! I love it. Just as you said, it was perfect to hold the bike upright when filling and checking oil after the change. Makes getting underside & rear tire during cleaning very easy!
