1. Ok folks, I finally finished wiring in my Dash Alarm Indicator (my name for it). I think it’s pretty trick! Let me know what ya think?
2. I’m onboard! Just say the word and I’ll start writing & calling!
3. The 1st Gens did not have any Rev Limiter. I also think your SPOT ON as to WHY he was not getting the performance he was expecting. These are two different animals completely and need to be driven differently to wring everything out of them.
4. I rode my 91 VR pretty hard. During the 120k miles I had to rebuild the clutch 3 times UNTIL I found a tech tip in the OLD Venture Touring Society. Remember VTS before it became MTS (Motorcycle Touring Society)? Anyways, the problem with the wear and sometimes “chatter” is because of the weak clutch spring. Just a single concave ring that sits in a retainer basket. The Barnett Clutch springs wouldn’t work on this application, so I used the Barnett rings & friction plates but HERE’s the key. The spring retainer basket is just deep enough where you can STACK TWO of the stock clutch springs. The retainer basket is deep enough to still hold 3/4 of the spring thickness so it does fine. Now you WILL feel a difference in the clutch pull, but when you romp HARD in the engine that power has no where to go so the front end IS , I repeat IS coming UP!! I kept her SHOWROOM clean and had her repainted a 96 Dodge Viper RT Blue!
5. WOW American, you know your lubes! Thanks for the education. Now I know not just WHAT I want to run in my SVTC but WHY.
6. I’d love to Puc. Good idea, but I don’t have a go pro or some way to mount my phone in such a position to do that. I eventually want to get a go pro helmet set up so I can video some of my rides. They’re not cheap and the “boss” says “not now”! Funny how that works eh? I make all the $$ but SHE says how and when I get to spend it. Such is marriage but after 32yrs I’m used to it.
7. Puc, you keep showing that video for an acceleration demo and I keep reminding you of TWO facts. ONE: You were in Touring NOT Sport Mode. TWO: You were shifting WAY too late which is way outta the power band.
8. I appreciate that. Stats look impressive. What about the “esthers”(sp?) that people were talking about?
9. Not familiar with it. Is it also a full synthetic?
10. Lol! I guess that’s nice to know but WHERE other than the Autobahn in Germany can you cruise at 90mph? I will confess I’ve had her up to 110mph & she was rock steady!
11. I understand your & Puc’s concern. My last VR had a gimballl style with a basket that I cut the bottom out of to fit a longer/larger cup. This one IS more solid but the inside of the holder ring has foam in it to give it some cushion & grip. Haven’t tried it yet, but my buddy’s HD has one and he says almost any large syrofoam coffee or drink fit in there nicely. I can go thru a Dunkin Donuts and get a large coffee to go and fit it right in there according to him. I’m gonna have to try that out!
12. Enjoy your trip & stay safe my friend!
13. I use a “rain” setting on my hose sprayer. It’s Very gentle.
14. Well, my Kuryakyn cup holder arrived finally! Just one more thing checked off my list of things to do to her. Wait until I start having pieces chromed!
15. Mark me as one of the crossovers from a 91 Royale.
16. Im sorry for being so harsh & lashing out Puc. I get it, it’s not YOUR dream bike, but it IS for many of us here. It’s also quite a significant investment for most of us as well. I should have just ignored it and let you rant on. It is YOUR “opinion” and you’re entitled to it. Im also sorry Yamaha didn’t produce YOUR dream bike and hope that one day you get it. Again, my humble apologies.
17. Hey Joe, what do you have your rear shock adjusted to? I have mine set on 5 which when riding solo really gives you a sport suspension and a bit more ground clearance because it doesn’t compress as much riding solo.
18. I agree! I’ve been looking at putting a Wolo Bad Boy Horn on. They have a good deal on them right now! https://www.amazon.com/wolo-bad-boy-horn/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Awolo%20bad%20boy%20horn I was wondering that since the horn already has a relay, I wonder if it will handle the power draw?? P.S. I like the sound of the Bad Boy MAX better, but I’m concerned about fitment without modification.
19. Ive run a 32GB stick since day one with all my music on it. I also mentioned in a different thread what info is needed to make sure the songs are “searchable” by your infotainment system. A 32GB stick will give you more than a WEEK of continuous music! WHY you’d need more than that I don’t know.
20. IMHO, I think the Yamaha engineers have already considered this dynamic. Your car tires do the same thing but you don’t mess with those do you? Did you look at the sidewalk for any info? I didn’t look. They said 41 cold, so that’s what I run.
21. Thx Wolf. To quote one of your statements “If there’s no pics it didn’t happen”. I use that here cuz I’d really like to see pics of your all lit up.
22. How many times does someone have to say it? There is NO change in rev limits!! You keep trying to ascribe something that does not exist. There IS a clear seat of the pants feel difference between the two. The acceleration is Sport Mode is much more brisk! Remember, that means you’ll have to “short shift” faster to not go so far out of the torque band as you did every time you shifted it in your video.
23. Its very simple Puc. This is an EFI not normally aspirated. It’s no different than when I had an SCT module for my high performance Mustang. All the unit did was re-map fuel, spark advance, etc... The performance difference between the two was significant on the car. I imagine they’re doing pretty much the same thing here. I can’t wait until someone makes a performance module where you can personally tweak those parameters even more!
