  1. The “faster” one eh? This is an ongoing discussion on another forum. 🤣🤣
  2. Backing it out will be a piece of cake! It’s got forward AND reverse parking assist! NO MORE STRUGGLING. 👍😁
  3. Ok, gray one. I asked in another thread before I saw this one. 👍
  4. We haven’t determined the serial number sequence involved in that issue yet. We know it was 500 bikes BUT that didn’t start from 0001. Mine is 0694 and had a problem, and I’m still waiting to hear from the other guy who recently shared his problem to give a serial number.
  5. LOL! And here Don I didn’t think you were in the market or gonna get one?! Well, CONGRATS! What color did you get? You also said you hadn’t had a chance to test ride one yet. 😁. Sometimes “ya just KNOW”. Post pics when you get it!
  6. Yes, mine is 0694 and it appears that the sequential number and the delivery date of a vehicle have no congruency, therefore the S/N is extremely important. My particular problem became very evident at about 7,500. Just before my 8k mike service was due. I thought it was due to thin oil from the high summer heat and just needed a heavier weight oil. When that didn’t quiet it, I took it in immediately.
  7. Do you mind if I ask what you last 4 digits are in your serial number?? We’re trying to ascertain if there’s a a true pattern here or not. thanks.
  8. I agree 100%! I think that there are a number of areas that the rollout of the SVTC was completely mis-handled. Lack of forethought for parts is one of them. The other was the well know infotainment software issues. They’ve FINALLY got that pretty much smoothed out yet WHO in their right mind releases a technologically advanced machine and is not aware or dealt with EVERY SINGLE NUANCE of its operation BEFORE releasing it. I think racing to beat Honda to the “release” of a new model may be a factor.
  9. Yes, I got my SVTC Dec 29th 2017. I did all the break in rpm limits per the manual, oil changes & levels and all maintence spot on. As we got into summer and I was around 7500 miles the engine seemed to be getting more “noisy” than usual. I chalked it up initially to the fact of higher temps and needing a heavier oil AND being close to oil change time. i did the oil change and put a 20w-50 full synthetic in and figured “that’ll calm her down”, IT DID NOT! I knew then something was not right and took it straight to the dealership. Unlike your situation, mine didn’t dismiss it and checked it out. It was definitely coming from the rear cylinder. I had to wait 3 weeks for parts but again my dealership “Team Charlotte Motorsports” stepped up and let my ride their demo SVTC for the last week my bike was in the shop. After conversations with both the dealership and Yamaha, here’s what was determined. Do you remember the delay in the release of the SVTC? Well, that was caused by leaking crankcase seals. Yamaha hose to do the repairs IN HOUSE and not push a problem off on the dealerships. Good for them. There were 500 bikes that had the engines removed, disassembled, repaired and put back in. In my particular case (and possibly yours), it was determined that either NO or INSUFFICIENT cam lube was used during re-assembly. As you know, the lube protects the cam during start up until the oil has a chance to circulate. Without that, the lifter and cam “scored” and the wear continued from that point. Im sorry that you’re giving up on such a truly awesome machine. I purchased mine with no illusions going into it. It’s a highly advanced design in its first production year. To think that there aren’t going to be any issues is just plain unreasonable. The problems reported on various owner threads are varied and nothing showing ANY product wide fault or flaw. They all seem to be isolated. In closing, I’m truly sorry your dealership dropped the ball (which CLEARLY) they did!) and didn’t listen to your concerns. In my experience this far, Yamaha has taken care of ANY issue or concern I’ve had. The 3 weeks was a bummer and I had to cancel a planned 10 day 5 state trip. However, I will say that since the repair, it’s been running awesome AND I think it may have been why I wasn’t seeing the gas mileage some have reported. I was seeing 38mpg at best when I babied it. Now I’m seeing 42mpg and riding aggressively. i know it stinks, but if you can HANG IN THERE. This machine IS worth the wait!
  10. Fair enough Don, but in so acquiescing I’d like to point out that 90% of those “positive comments” were posted by SVTC owners who are no longer here; and a once vibrant thread filled with all kinds of experiential information about this bike has all but fallen silent.
  11. My bad. Thank you for the correction SilverT. Regarding the “heat” issue, I myself with 12k miles on it have stated that “it’s hot in 87+ degree weather and stop n go traffic but it’s not untolerable”. She just wasn’t designed to be a “commuter” in traffic. Every bike has pros & cons, and every owner (many previous HD, Wing, Victory & Star riders) will tell you unequivocally the pros far outweigh the cons. i doubt someone with the reputation & experience of Long Haul Paul with 300k miles on a Tenere would continue his million mile journey on something that performed poorly or wasn’t absolutely comfortable.
  12. Would be interested if you could provide the link to the statement that the guy “regretted it”. Would like to read it for myself.
  13. Hi Grubsie, as an SVTC owner I can honestly say you won’t find any positive info here on the SVTC by non owners. They’re ticked off that Yamaha didn’t put a V4 in it. You need to take it for a ride yourself. DO NOT listen to the naysayers with no experience on it except for a few who have only had a test ride, and some of those didn’t know anything about this bike. Everybody I know who owns one (many ex HD, Wing & Victory Owners) is thrilled with their choice, and though there USED to be a group of us here who were really excited about the SVTC, we realized the SVTC was not welcome and got tired of the detractors and moved on. Do yourself a HUGE favor and look for reviews by OWNERS and not the naysayers. BTW, “Long Haul Paul” in his million mile run for a Multiple Sclerosis cure has bought a new SVTC. Go to his YouTube channel and check out his reports. Heres his latest from a post on another forum. https://www.starbikeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115122
  14. Thanks Woody. BTW, breakfast was great! Wish I could’ve stayed long enough to join you on the ride. Maybe next time!
  15. Glad everyone made it home safe. Sorry I couldn’t stay longer. Much thanks to Woody & Trina and all those who made the hospitality tent just exactly that! Surprised that all you folks who’d never seen an SVTC up close and in person didn’t mention an appearance of one. Oh well.
  16. Yes Sir, they do! Kinda indicates the “quality” right of the bat.
  17. BEFORE you dive in on that particular module, you might wanna consider this one! Not only does it have selectable flash modes for your brake light, it also converts your saddle bad lights into brake lights as well yet maintains turn signal functions even when brakes are applied. It’s what I did with mine. https://www.jpcycles.com/product/632-168/custom-dynamics-universal-smart-triple-play-run-brake-and-turn-signal-conversion-kit
  18. I like doing my research so I don’t have to “re-invent” the wheel. This is the best item I’ve found to do what we want with the rear lighting. I like the fact too that it has a number of selectable patterns you can choose from to even further personalize it. https://www.jpcycles.com/product/632-168/custom-dynamics-universal-smart-triple-play-run-brake-and-turn-signal-conversion-kit
  19. Every single bike manufacturer makes the same statement. It’s a liability thing, but Wings, HD, Stars, Shadows, Ventures, Valkyrie’s etc... have been towing for a few decades. i don’t recommend it for a novice rider, but most people riding a bike big enough to tow aren’t usually novice riders either.
  20. Not sure about the Eluder, but it’s the same engine as the SVTC. The manual AND there was a gas tank sticker SPECIFYING to “USE PREMIUM GAS ONLY with a 91 or HIGHER Octane rating”.
  21. I agree with you. I hope you don’t think I was advocating him trying to ride and unfamiliar bike AND try to figure out the infotainment system? Good Lord, that’s a recipe for disaster! Im presuming he’s going to have some time either before or after the ride to investigate the features.
  22. Final note there “K”. If you have some difficulty figuring out some of the infotainment functions, don’t be frustrated. The manual for the infotainment system ALONE is 118 pages! ENJOY! Can’t wait to hear your report back!
  23. Awesome new bro, CONGRATS! “I’ve never seen the righteous forsaken or his seed begging for bread.” :innocent-emoticon:
  24. AWESOME pics! I can’t wait to get my SVTC up there. About 2.25hrs from my house!
  25. HEY! “Old Guy memory”? I resemble that remark!
