  1. Im sorry that had to happen. I too hope he finds what he’s looking for but I doubt It. Similiar issues occurred on the other forum he went to. I wish him well.
  2. The YamaLube was a bit pricey compared to the QS, but they had $3 off per qt. so it was 10.99 per qt and takes 6 to do with filter.
  3. I used QuickSilver myself 20w-50 but I found out it’s a “synthetic blend” and not a full synthetic. It does make a difference in its ability to resist breakdown from shear forces. i just did an oil change and sprung for the YamaLube 15w-50 full synthetic. We’ll see how it goes.
  4. Interesting idea. As long as it’s not too deep of a cut and might actually match the fins on the engine. 🤔
  5. Might as well delete “flat tappet cam systems” as well. Seems he “picked up his marbles” and went home.
  6. I like the design of their rack, but I wish it wasn’t all blacked out. I have to pay for the rack and then pay extra to have it chromed. Will do the same with the saddlebag kid rails. If I were you, I’d use those base supports available at JP cycles that spread the foot pad stress over a wider area. And what up with this 4lbs junk? My winter coat is heavier than 4lbs! In your opinion, do you think it’ll support more weight without an issue? Just curious. Guess I should’ve read your WHOLE post before jumping in! So, based on what you see in the trunks construction, it’s sturdier than the RSV. I used to put 10lbs on the one in my 91 VR with no problems. Never had a stress crack at all.
  7. Wow Don! That’s the same hitch I want, but I had no idea you have to remove the trunk as well. Oh joy! I am sooo looking forward to that... NOT! Thanks for the “heads up”. BTW, the Ultimate backrest looks great!
  8. I just put in YamaLube 15w-50 full synthetic with esther. They had $3 off per qt.
  9. You have the same engine as the SVTC and manufacturers label in the tank states “USE PREMIUM UNLEADED ONLY. MINIMUM 91 OCTANE RATING”. There’s a reason they do that.
  10. I’m pretty aggressive throttle wise but don’t run “Sport Mode” very often. I’m getting 41.7 consistently.
  11. That would be correct. It was an unimpeded freefall to the ground on the right side. ZERO damage!
  12. EVERY muscle in my body tensed up as if I was having a seizure and the voice in my head screaming NOOOO!!! Was SO LOUD someone in the next room could hear it! We’re all good now. Took a shower and changed my “soiled” clothes. NOT gonna make it a habit!
  13. I was one of those who experienced a “valve” issue. Actually it was a failed lifter & cam. Not sure which started it. It was in the rear cyclinder. Yes, Yamaha is aware of it but there’s not wnough with only 2 people having experienced this to warrant a “recall” at this time. I’m sure they’re monitoring this VERY closely. My issue happened at about 7,500 miles. If I recall, the other guy had his happen about 1800 miles. Long Haul Paul just got his and is WELL beyond in mileage that anyone this far has had an issue. Who knows why it happened, the important thing is that Yamaha stepped up right away to take care of it.
  14. Ok Guys, today started off a bit exciting. Maybe some of you have heard about a guy who dropped his SVTC or wondered what happens if you do? Well, as of 20 minutes ago I CAN CONFIRM that nothing happens to the bike! i was getting her set upright to do an oil change and suddenly she went over AWAY from the side I was on. I couldn’t stop it and watched as she rolled over to probably about 50 degrees or so and stopped. Fortunately there was nothing in the way for her to hit, but it seems the black molding under the saddlebags acts as a cushion on the rear and the main heavy bar that the floorboards are mounted to stop it from going over further in the front. Not to hard to pick up either due to low center of gravity. WAY EASIER than my 91 Venture Royale was. Anyways, not a mark, mar, crack or stressed piece at all. Put your mind at ease if your concerned about any damage from dropping her. Yamaha designed this baby WELL! Just because the “protection” doesn’t SHOW like a lot of other bikes, does not mean it’s not there! Now it’s time to give her a bath!
  15. The “Tool Box” is on Yamaha’s site. I’m sure American has a ready link to it. YES, you need to have a good quality thumb drive to use exclusively for system updates. An 8GB stick is plenty big enough. Do not use that stick to upload navigation routes. Keep it exclusively for software updates.
  16. Exactly! It’s not a very “smart” system so you kinda have to “hide the eggs in plain sight” if you catch my drift.
  17. Thank you! I had her custom painted ‘96 Dodge Viper RT Blue.
  18. Like BigBob said, we need to find out if the NAV screen come up with a map display. If it does, then it’s already setup. if it doesn’t, he’ll have to do it. Bummer that so many places these days are lacking in customer service. In reality, I think it’s because they know nothing about this bike. I had downloaded my Owners Manual from online 3 months before I got my bike. When I picked it up, they were trying to explain functions to me and I kept correcting them. Lol! Also, find out if the USB he’s using has been properly formatted to be able to use for updates. I believe Yamaha’s site has detailed instructions on that. Also, many people were having trouble because the USB they were using wasn’t properly formatted, so Yamaha sent out a very unique “credit card” looking USB that was pre-formatted to be able to use for all updates. If you didn’t get one Don, ask your dealer OR call Yamaha Cust Service.
  19. If “blue is the fastest”, my last Venture must have been “light speed” based on the color! 😉
  20. Hi Don, I was one of those early on who brought this issue up to Yamaha directly. Also, you should be aware that currently the NAV system will only allow 5 way points to be uploaded on any route. This is very anemic for a touring bike and have made them aware of that as well. The nice thing is that all the different functions are enabled or changed in the software program so it’s not a “stuck with it” situation. We’re just waiting on Yamaha to write the software update to address it.
  21. It’s letting you know that the bike is “in gear” and the key is on. I’ll bet you’re not in neutral when you stop & turn it off. Stop using the kickstand as a kill switch and you won’t have that. It wil also do that if you have the bike started and walk away where it can’t detect the fob, and gives you a flashing light too. There is about a 3ft circle from the dash to about the passenger seat where the fob can be detected.
  22. Absolutely! I’ve installed a WOLO Bad Boy air horn in the stock mounting position using the stock bracket with a minor modification. Was able to get it at Harbor Freight for about $34.
  23. I don’t think anyone who has seen or rode the new wing doesn’t believe that they didn’t go the way of “Goldwing” meant for luxury touring as their predecessors, but rather created an ST1800. I’ve sat on the 2017 model and while it is nicely apportioned, I still feel much more cramped than on the SVTC. The 2018 is significantly smaller and much more cramped. The riding position is much more upright and not a relaxed leaned back cruiser feel to it like you have on the SVTC.
  24. Excellent first report Don! I KNEW you’d like it! BTW, not only can you have external speakers on or off with the headsets on, you can INDIVIDUALLY select EVERY audio source ie CB, Comms, NAV, radio etc and make it go where you want. For EACH ITEM you can select headset rider, passenger, BOTH, none AND YOU CAN INDIVIDUALLY set the volume level for EACH ONE. If you have every dealt with a sound mixing board, you’ll understand what I’m talking about. Look forward to hearing more from your experiences! Ride safe Sir!
  25. The fact that the OP of this thread has NOT returned to update or offer any info to gain some insight has me thinking “fake serial blogger”. EVERYONE so far has not had an issue openly giving their bike S/N so we can validate a possible range that may be involved. So WHERE is this slighted rider? Why has he not re-engaged? Makes one wonder does it not? If these bikes were having all kinds of these problems, would there not be a number of people venting their frustration? YOU BETCHA!! Do a search for ANYTHING related to this topic and there is NOTHING. NADA! ZIP! ZILCH! for those of you who are GENUINE SVTC owners and have given S/N, thank you!
