This is perfect! Thank you! Sorry I did not respond sooner, but have been out of state and offline for a few days. Thanks again for the details! Soon as I get back I'll start to work on the install. -
I second the recommendation. Been there a few times. Great ride up from the western Boston suburbs. Plus the food is out of this world....

So I got these high-way pegs in the mail yesterday. Did you have to cut or trim the plastic to get them to fit? Could you possibly post some more close-up pictures to see how you did the install? Great post by the way. -
When people ask me why I carry a pistol, I tell them because a policeman is too heavy ....

That's great -- thank you! I just requested the reward for myself. Attached is a picture of the stock ready for the new finish. Must have been the luck of the draw to get one from Springfield. My son is a Marine. I purchased a membership to the GCA for him. I expect he'll be ordering one pretty soon as well.

Hey, thanks for the nice comments. It's a nostalgia piece for me. I qualified expert at the Cape May Coast Guard Recruit Center with one just like it, as well as spent a lot of time on the parade field with it. Luckily never had to fire one at anyone. Got this through the Civilian Marksmanship Program (http://thecmp.org/). Was actually very easy (and I live in Massachusetts), especially if you are current or ex-military. It's the lowest operable grade -- Field Grade 1, I think. $650 delivered to my door, along with a nice case. The key is you have to be "associated" with an organization that has a relationship with the CMP. Most are ranges and gun clubs, but the simplest I found is the Garand Collectors Association (https://thegca.org/). They are nationwide and you can get a one year membership online for $25. Worked for me. Now, having said all that, I have not fired this beast yet. Looks to me like all the parts are there, and in good working order. No nicks on the muzzle, the barrel looks to be in good shape and the bolt appears to work fine. I'm taking it to my son's place in Virginia in a few weeks and hope to test fire it there. The stock looked to have old cosmoline on it; not real bad, but was a dark, slightly tacky finish. I'm in the process of refinishing it now.

Wonky GPS
Pelican72 replied to DanielM's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Have you guys tried the Yamaha Toolkit? (http://yamaha-mapupdate.naviextras.com/web/downloadagent) Once I figured out how to configure a thumb drive as a "USB kay", it seems to work pretty well at checking to see if there are updates for the GPS maps. -
Wonky GPS
Pelican72 replied to DanielM's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
I, too, have been disappointed in the GPS. I love the size and information it presents, but the limitation of accepting only 5 way points is very disappointing for the type of back road touring I like to do. I'm hoping future updates will correct this. I solved the wireless headset link with the Sierra SMH10 interface for the Harley Davidson (https://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=SIE-SNA-HD-SMH10). I had the Gold Wing version previously, and this works just the same on the new Venture. -
I am happy to report that I received the SENA SMH10 BT interface for the Harley Davidson (https://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail...E-SNA-HD-SMH10) from Sierra last week, and it works like a champ on the new Venture TC, just like my previous one worked on the Gold Wing. When I first examined it, I called Sierra telling them they had sent the wrong one as it was only a 5-pin DIN connector. I was told the other two pins were not active on the Venture (same on the HD) and the 5-pin would work. Sure enough, it does. I can activate the voice commands with a single touch of the PTT switch, and the CB transmit by holding the PTT down.

Very cool! I am of the same ilk, as in "I'm a guy what likes a bluetooth headset for my helmet". I had a SENA SMH10 interface harness for my 2012 Gold Wing and would like to set up the same connection for my new Venture. According to a Sierra tech rep I talked to this morning, I should be able to use the Harley version of the Harness: https://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=SIE-SNA-HD-SMH10 Anyone had any experience with this? I tried to contact Steve Schmidt, the original designer of the SENA-Gold Wing harness, but with no luck.

Interesting! Which headset did you pair it with ?

For what it's worth, I was online with J&M this morning. I purchased an HD lower cord (part HC-ZYH). It didn't work with the headset I have, but then I realized I did not have an "Elite Series" headset. I noticed there are a number of "Elite Series" headsets so wanted to determine which I could use. The online tech confirmed that only "Elite 801" series headsets will work with the new Venture. I asked him about a number of Elite 801 headset part numbers, basically for different helmet configurations, and he said they would all work, and that I had the correct lower cord. BTW when the lower cord came it indicated it was also applicable to the 2018 Venture. Having said that, I do not have the correct headset yet so have not confirmed any of this on the new bike.
