  1. Oh sure, not in anyway mandatory, just that would avoid one having to go through the authentication PIN routine, every time you'd run the bike, if there was a full Proximity FOB failure. It does happen. Did so once with my car. But as you feel, most likely a failure would be temporary, and only require a battery refresh. Yeppers. You stating; 'Awesome bike'...makes me smile all the more. Hopefully, by the end of next week, or at the worst, one week after that...I can come back here..and give my actual ride-it-home experience, and also hopefully, not blow too many people off of the computer screen with my normal level of exuberance. I was never a good introvert. Tried it...hasn't worked for over 60 years, lol. Keep enjoying your bike..and always ride, to ride again. Congrats's on your early delivery, you lucky guy! BTW, if you ever see a guy, on a red SVTC, with an enormous smile, that you'd be totally embarrassed to have upon your own face...wave at him, or them......for that's probably me/us..... I'll be suffering from SVTC'itis....keeps your cheeks pitched upwards, lips slightly ajar, peaked at the coners. No cure... Cheers, Joe
  2. I meant, leave the battery in the bike. You can unlock the locked compartments, with your hard key...but then need to PIN through the method described to start the bike, or unlock it from the steering lock position. I'd carry the spare FOB, on my person, or give it to my wife to carry on tour. This is going to be a no-brainer purchase. If I can pay out over $32,000.00 for the bike...I certainly can pay another 1 percent of that initial cost as a Proximity FOB insurance, back up strategy, LOL! Oh yeah....oh yeah... Post Edit: You'd never leave any Proximity Key FOB, with the bike, parked in your garage, or out upon tour...for any reason. My take, anyway! Cheers,
  3. Yes, I certainly did, and enjoyed the review very much. I must have missed the part where you mentioned about protecting the tank. It will be from hereon-out...anything to do with the handlebars!
  4. Well, that's the price then I'll expect to pay, in Ontario...should be no difference between Provinces. Thanks for that. Now I know. Still going to do that...for the very first time I **might** need it/use it...the money spent will have no longer been an issue/expense. Nope. I'll talk to the Parts Manager when I go to pick up the bike. A no brainer..... BTW...a question, Zoey...are BOTH of your FOBS active, at the same time. In otherwords, have you tried walking away from and then walking to the bike, with either one, and the bike will start, or unlock storage compartments? It can be done for the new Wing..but you have to do a few 'tricks' to have two registered to the bike's electronics and PIN. For the Wing, it is not straight forward. Is it for the T.C.? Cheers,
  5. Thanks for the reply. Yeah...I think I will drop the $$ for another. I read the manual...and too much of a hassle (for me anyways) for the tap-dance of open the right saddle bag...do this, do that...key in the PIN. Nope...will drop the $160.00 as a 'convenience' cost...and be done with it. Good idea about keeping the battery out of it. I'm just going to do that...but keep in in the bike pocket within a sealed plastic baggie. Useless to anyone, so won't be lifted...but there always in the bike, for that time I might need it. Yep...as far as I am concerned...a required 'accessory'. I wonder if you can have TWO fobs as PIN active? Hopefully not either/or. I'll do the due diligence after I take delivery. But..it will be one of the first things in the coming weeks. Cheers, Joe
  6. Man...I'm glad you posted this warning. I'm taking delivery next week..and will for sure, place a 6 inch piece of foam (camping bed sort of stuff) across the tank top, if I ever need to adjust. A great tip..and sorry for reading that you ah..er...found out the hard way. Are you replacing the tank, or body shop?
  7. Looks great...many happy and safe journeys! Joe
  8. Has anybody thought of purchasing another key FOB, for tour redundancy? I've been thinking of that over the last few days. What a PITA, if your battery, OR, simply the electronic internal circuit board fails...and you are now having to go through the whole ringamarole of using the manual key and messing around with your included start-up security code. That..frankly, to myself, is PITA territory! I don't know what a second one costs as I post this...but seriously am thinking of carrying a second one, as simply, back up and convenience. Anybody else considering this? Just curious....
  9. Right now in Toronto, it's raining cats and dogs. I guess that is good from the standpoint of getting as much salt dust down the storm sewers before I ride home next week! The bike looks great, with you on it! In fact...(and this is a personal comment) I think it is one of the best looking, if not THE BEST looking bike in total, I have ever seen from a cosmetic design, as well as technological. The fairing is simply awesome in the way the engineers came up with the shark's head and scallop for managed air flow shear around the bike...and the fact that it is also ample enough to give you 4, large high intensity LED head lights. The bike comes across as totally luxurious, large, ample...and you get something for the $32,000.00 they ask for it. One of the many reasons that my wife and I decided not to go with the 2018 Honda Gold Wing...was that they dropped this feature...reduced that feature...dropped that capacity, reduced that capacity...but the one thing they uh...er...forgot to drop...WAS THE PRICE! That, they seemed to be able to maintain, from the 2017 model year! LOL! Ok...I have to slap my hand off the keyboard, before I end up going into a 2018 Honda Gold Wing 'rant'. Not helpful for my blood pressure...lol. Now..back to that great looking motorcycle that can carry the kitchen sink from your house, should you need it on tour! That's what we are talkin' about! Well, that and other simply great features and capacities! Cheers, Joe
  10. I know that that label is sliding off of our tank ASAP! Will do the low heat, hair-dryer and WD40 gentle wipe up. Then a soap wash, and sealer wax...with an over Carnauba wax, in that area.
  11. Yeah, I had the Kuryakyn backrest with the pouch on the back for my wife's nick n' nacks on the 2008 Wing. Loved that back rest. I saw that this wasn't as tall, but then again, you could pitch forward the entire backrest to get it out of the co-rider's way for mount/dismount. This one, you cannot. As long as it supports me, and that I can lean back into it, or snug back...which with the three way slide forward, I could do...that it will work out just fine. My wife should have no trouble in the mount/dismount with it. So..it over all, looks good. As you mentioned going East towards Ajax...we also haunt Gananoque and Kingston for a weekend ride. Love Gan. Thousand Islands and the boat cruise is just a great 2 day, weekend getaway. You can be sure, our Venture will be gracing that area, probably late June, early July...to allow the black flies to peter out... My wife was also making plans with our other two Gold Wing couples that we usually ride with (they still have their Wings) ...for a run over to Quebec City. We usually take a week for that...to get there...be there...ride back. We have so many great times planned for this bike...that it won't be staying 'virgin' for very long...LOL! BTW, did you know that Kuryakyn already has TRANSFORMERS with built in highway pegs (that we had for the Wing's...) already for this beast? I'm certainly going to pick those up for her. She loved them on the Wing. Could move her feet up and forward at will. I had those on our GL1500SE and of course on the GL1800. The new Venture will as well...you can get another two hundred miles out of your co-rider...easy with these babies!
  12. Oh...ok...well that you say that it feels good to your back as you sit on the bike in the garage...is most encouraging. I had a disc operation years ago..and so find having to support my back upright in the saddle for long periods, was not really working out. Would you say, that you can feel the top of the custom back rest touching your back around where your kidneys would be? If so...that would be good enough for me...that is..tall enough to keep me from feeling fatigue. I'm supposed to be getting the bike mid-next week...and around Toronto, it has been rather balmy...55 F/12C and no sand, no salt...clear roads...hopefully, my ride home will be in good weather. Wish me luck, lol!
  13. Most are reporting a very lite feel to the bike's handling. My dealer reported that they just got back feedback from delivering a grey T.C to a client. He called in after his first ride, to rave about how much lighter is the feel in turns and banking, over his late model Gold Wing, he just came from. I'm coming from a 2008 Gold Wing myself, so will anticipating my first ride, hopefully by next week's end. That's of course, if there is no snow, or salt splayed upon the roadways....
  14. Congrat's...you look good on it. Enjoy!
  15. Same for us...we are crossing over from Gold Wings as well. Also, will be our first big bore, V-Twin 'anything'. Looking forward to the new experience this riding season.
  16. You have reason to worry. They are truly a work of art. I have had many motorcycles from different manufacturers over the years...but this is the truly first bike, that excites the mind! This will also be my/our first venture (excuse the pun) into a large bore V-Twin. For touring, we always owned the Honda flat six engine design. So...a new engine format, is exciting for us....and is being looked forward to. The Gold Wing was a rock solid mount...but in truth, not truly rendering an 'emotional' response in the rider. That part of riding a large bore V-Twin...is an anticipation for both my wife and I...and...very soon. Next week perhaps.
  17. The bike looks fabulous. Congrat's! I'm 6'3'' and was wondering, how do you find that higher backrest, in supporting were it contacts your lower back? I ordered that for ours as well...and was just wondering if you feel there is good support for hours in the saddle? I had a much higher support rest on my 2008 Gold Wing...and so ordered this on faith. I didn't get a change to actually sit on a Star Venture with this installed. Does it support you, as you hoped it would? Again, congrat's! Joe
