As you probably know, I bought a couple of Sena Freewires for myself and my son for my 2018 SVTC. In its normal deployment, I have the Freewire mounted to my handlebar via the included mount, the headset cable plugged into the rider port, and the 12v power cable slinked down the left side of the tank to the 12v port. This project started as a way to get power to my son's Freewire in the back. I'm not a big fan of drilling holes unless I absolutely have to, but the obvious answer to a non-permanent solution was to get a 12v port installed somewhere towards the back of the bike. If you take the seat off, then remove the plastic panel below the passenger backrest pad on the trunk, you'll discover that there are already pathways for wires to enter the trunk behind the pad. Thus, no drilling! Not only could I run the power wires that way, but also the headset cable for the Freewire from the passenger headset port. And that is exactly what I did. I got a 12v socket from Walmart, some extension wire, and a Female HM090-2 connector from Cycle Terminal (http://www.cycleterminal.com/hm-sealed-series-090.html), wired that up, ran it behind the felt on the back inner wall of the trunk, down through the existing holes and to the available Male HM090-2 (switch on and off with the bike) under the seat. I then ran the headset cable up from the socket into the trunk as well. I attached the 12v socket (which had a mounting plate) and the Freewire (which also had a mounting plate) to the back of the rear wall of the trunk behind the felt with my favorite tool: Industrial Strength Velcro. BONUS: When I'm not riding with my son, I can turn off Dual Zone Audio and run my Freewire from the trunk. This leaves the handlebar area clean and free of clutter, and leaves the Freewire in the trunk where it is better protected from the elements and is locked away when I'm not with the bike. Below are a picture of the install with the felt pulled down, and with the felt in place. You can still see the items with the felt in place, but that's ok. It was a balance between putting them down too far to be serviceable or cutting the felt to expose them, which I didn't want to do. http://i.imgur.com/7OSfgu0h.jpg http://i.imgur.com/KFL4DYgh.jpg

Take your 2018 Star Venture wireless with Sena Freewire
Zelthian replied to Zelthian's topic in Watering Hole
I can't see that there would be any way they could have known. I don't think Yamaha calls around and says, "Hey, Comm Manufacturers, we're using the same pin-out as the Harley 7-pin, so, you know, test your gear with our bike!" It would be nice if they did, though...- 43 replies

Lifting the SVTC
Zelthian replied to DougS's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Nope. According to page 9-13 of the manual, the bike has to be held upright on a level surface (the sidestand will give a false reading). -
As far as I know, the toolbox is only for GPS maps updates. For the entire infotainment system, you have to go here: https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/transcontinental-touring/pages/infotainment-software-update But, as you can see at the top (as of this posting), it says, "Sofware Updates are Temporarily Unavailable for Download." So the download WILL be customer downloadable, when it comes out. And that will be, if the guy who spoke to my dealer today is to be believed, in a couple of weeks or so... ish...

Take your 2018 Star Venture wireless with Sena Freewire
Zelthian replied to Zelthian's topic in Watering Hole
There's really nothing to it. You attach the Freewire somewhere on the bike with the included mount (either stick-on or handlebar, which I've done here). Plug the cable into the Freewire, then the other end of the cable into the headset socket. Turn it on, pair it with your bluetooth headset as a phone device. Done. http://i.imgur.com/YzB45Chl.jpg- 43 replies

I called my dealership today to ask about the firmware update. They called their Yamaha dealer support/relations folks, who conferred with their technicians. This resulted in two statements to the dealer from Yamaha: - Yamaha wouldn't give the dealer any of the previous firmwares, stating there are bugs/issues with all of them (even though they specifically asked for 12.05) - They are expecting to release the updated firmware in the next two weeks or so Take that last bit of info with a big grain of salt, as usual. I work in software, and I always append timeframes of software releases with "-ish".

How to activate GPS on a brand new Star Venture TC?

This is a valid concern. Note that, if you have a 12v outlet (and the 2018 SV does), you can run the Freewire off the outlet and, in fact, it will turn off and on with the bike power. Can't say the same for the headset, but that's for the headset manufacturers to solve. I'm getting really good results with my Sena 30k, but my longest day so far has been 6 hours. I've got a long trip coming up mid-May. I'll comment back after.

Well, what do you know, I have outdated software as well. I know what I'm doing Tuesday...

Serius XM questions...
Zelthian replied to YamahaParExcellence's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
As a side note, the Nav also supports the SiriusXM Traffic feature. I've already had one case where it kicked in and suggested a different route based on traffic. -
Star Venture Highway pegs

Do you have to modify anything, i.e., cut into the plastic shroud around the fog light? Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk -

Are you saying to get the ones with the 6" arms? -
Did your SVTC come with a toolkit?
Zelthian replied to DougS's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Yup, basic toolkit, two (admittedly not terribly robust) helmet stay cables, in a (admittedly not terribly quality) plastic snap case. -
2018 Star Venture TC Infotainment System
Zelthian replied to jozipp's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I don't know about iPhone, but for Android, this isn't the case. I get call, text, Bluetooth audio and Pandora audio functionality all through Bluetooth. That said, on page 11-14 of the Infotainment System Owner's Manual, it specifically states that the "phone" icon next to devices in the Paired Devices List is for "Phone (including SMS message)"[sic], and that the music note icon is for "Music playback". I would be very surprised if this is different between iOS and Android. -
Take your 2018 Star Venture wireless with Sena Freewire
Zelthian replied to Zelthian's topic in Watering Hole
Updates: - My Freewires came in today. Fully tested with me and my son. Works like a champ! - I called Sena to let them know the units are compatible with the 2018 Star Venture. The tech seemed quite pleased "someone in the field" had tested them. Hopefully this will lead to an official support situation. Fingers crossed, but not holding my breath.- 43 replies
