I have an '86 VR and an '04 Wing. The VR handles better than the Wing, but that may just be my Wing, it has an odd thing that nobody has been able to fix, but I can't get enough of the power and protection on the Wing. The VR is a more sophisticated bike than the Wing, especially in the suspension. Put the Wing engine in the VR body/frame and I would be in heaven. I am in the market for a newer bike, but just can't decide if I should get a new Wing, or a Victory or a (gasp) Electra Glide Ultra. I have ridden all and like all. But I just am not a basic fan of V-twin engines. The RSV is a good bike, but it needs some updating, and I am just not a fan of something that wants to "look" like a Harley. I wish Yamaha would upgrade the RSV with a couple hundred more CC, direct injection, go to a body more like the original VR, and quit trying to be a Harley. Anyway, they are all very good bikes. It is nice we have such good choices.

I got the idea from someone else on this list or another list, so I am just passing it along. Glad it worked, it doesn't in every case, but it did in my case and several others! I appreciate the kind words though. -

Thanks Joe for getting the target and setting a new one! Mom and Pop for sure! I know a few of those sub-stations, but right now there is a lot of two different kinds of white stuff on all my roads (snow and salt), so I am grounded for a while. Nice weather people, go look for a "shocking" photo!

If you have already done the East side of Florida, why not try the West side? Take 41 across, be sure to take a left on 29 to Everglades City to the Rod and Gun club for lunch or supper. Then take 29 north to Ave Maria (just off 29 a few miles to the West), the new Catholic community. Not Catholic? Neither am I, but the wife and I enjoyed the town square (around an amazing looking cathedral) with some good restaurants and the best smoothie I have ever had, plus some neat shopping. The community is open to visitors and beautiful to ride around in. Then go back to 29 and go to Immokalee. Ride some of the "800" roads east and North to Lake Okeechobee and stop at the dam/park on the south end. Then you can continue on 27 North, it gets busier the farthur North you go so don't hesitate to get off on the side roads. I have found those roads are clean and smooth and more fun than the main roads. This little Western detour is one the wife and I did over a couple days a couple years ago. If going on North, taking 41 or 19 up the West coast is a nice ride. Just explore!

Glad he's OK, and yes, the last line added a bit of fun to the story. I have two friends that were as lucky. #1, driving along the interstate in Texas, an I-beam, LARGE, fell off a truck and took the entire front suspension off a friends Taurus SHO, also ripped the bottom off the engine and tranny. They wound up in a ditch, but didn't flip. Very lucky #2, Different friend, also driving a Taurus SHO (these were both stories of friends driving these cars back from two different conventions I put on a few years ago), and a steel post about 5 or 6 feet long, about 3" around fell off a truck and as he ran by it, it bounded up and speared his passenger side rocker panel. He felt the car lift up, heard a loud noise, the car came back down and he was dragging the part. Stopped, the post had speared the rocker, come all the way through and tore up the outside of the passenger seat, probably would have killed anyone sitting there, but there wasn't anyone in the seat. The post then turned and dragged. He managed to get the post out, it left a hole about 8" long and 4" wide, but to look at the car from the outside from above, you could not tell anything happened. He had just liability, and the at fault party was long gone, so he taped up the hole with duct tape, fixed up the seat and kept driving it just like that for years. When driving or riding, I look for trucks loaded wrong with loose loads and stuff about to fall, and get far away. I also don't follow other vehicles very close so I have time to dodge if they go over something I don't see. This problem is getting worse with trucks coming in from Mexico without any real laws over their safety.

bummer, we had perfect weather Wednesday (for Illinois anyway, in January) of 55 degrees, and I got out for two rides, one including my wife on her bike along for companionship. And I forgot totally to get a pic of a mom n pop store, sure I went by a couple. Hey all you "good" weather folks in the south and West, get on your bikes and get this hunt going again!

Nice job, but I did want to mention that when my trunk (86 VR) was becoming three large pieces instead of two, I use Plastifix, a product that I heard about on this forum. http://www.urethanesupply.com/PlastiFix-Kits-1/ This stuff was easy to use, went a lot faster than I thought and was economical. Now almost a year later the repair is holding when any number of epoxies, and fiberglass etc, did not.

I knew someone (not a friend, just knew him) that crossed a center line drunk and killed a motorcyclist. He never served any time, just lost his license for a few years. A good friend of mine lost his son (a promising young man with a good job lined up, was 2 weeks away from graduating with honors from college, was happily married with is first child on the way) Coming home from school one afternoon when a stripper drove drunk into the wrong way on an interstate and he could not avoid her. She was a repeat DUI offender, drunk, and killed this wonderful young man (he was driving a car) and I think she got a couple years and probably didn't serve all of that. For some reason, killing someone in a car just doesn't count like using a gun or hammer etc. I can understand if it is a true accident, but when someone is drunk, doesn't have license or insurance, and breaks other laws (leaving the scene) then they should be treated like the criminal they are.

Really good. Heard just a touch of Chet Atkins in there, I consider Chet probably the best guitar player ever, if not the best, then in the top few, and I think most top players that ever got the chance to spend any time with Chet would agree with me. I can't play at all, but do know music and appreciate talent, the girl is a star, and if she doesn't burn out, will be able to write her own ticket. I didn't see, did it say where she was from? Edit, just looked again, she is from N. Korea. If allowed, she will be a star, but may never be let out of country.

In Illinois if you have historic plates (they only have one category) you are allowed to put Illinois plates from the same year as the car as long as you carry the assigned plates with you. They are good for 5 years. Not a bad deal. My '57 Chevy has red '57 Illinois plates. They don't even require you to let them know what number is on the plate.

It has been decent 50 degree weather the last two days and I have been down with the flu or something. Usually hits me for 4 days every year. I guess it would be asking too much for it to hit on a lousy snow day where no riding or working outside or in the garage is possible.

Well, I bet the entire group of Wisconsin motorcyclists and collector car clubs can 't wait for the February 1st show season to start! And I thought Illinois was eccentric? (and we are, and we don't even have a great cheese industry!). So I guess you will have to trailer your bike to all the Illinois January shows? OK, OK, enough, just kidding.

That is really odd. I guess they figure it is too cold and you don't need to be going anywhere? In Illinois they just don't want you to use it for daily use or business. And that depends on the local police. If they see you driving around on antique plates every day, they may stop you, but otherwise, they don't care, and there are no restrictions other than that. If you need to get service or gas in January, would they ticket you?

Red Rider had the solution, a flashlight. If they need to find stuff, even a light inside would probably not get to all the areas, especially if there are several shelves. You can mount the flashlight on the outside, but if people steal it, then mount the light on the inside. Keep a few extra batteries in an acid proof case as back up. -
OK, is nobody riding these days? Target should be easy to get Just some sort of holiday display/ornaments etc. I know we all should have those WAY over decorated homes in our areas. OK, how about this for something everyone should be able to get: You and your bike, and something to do with the holidays, a Santa display, reindeer, Frosty (snowman), Christmas tree, nativity scene etc. A severely overdecorated house would be worth bonus points! Snow in the picture double bonus points, a LIVE Santa or Reindeer triple bonus points! Happy Holidays everyone!

OK, we had a small window of sun between rain fronts, and it was 50 degrees, so I got the bike out and took these pictures. If OK, then I will set a new target.

Where is everyone? Every time I think about getting a picture of the temp, I get turned off by t he suddenly cold temps. In January, I will be overjoyed to find a 40 degree day and will go riding, but for now, 40 is toooooooooo (sorry about the o's) cold! Will be raining for the next few days, so won't be getting that pic till next week. For now, let's keep trying to get a picture of a temperature readout plus you and your bike. Since I have been given authority, how about we say the FIRST picture like this wins, and sets a new target, no matter what the temp. For now I would love to see a picture of 80+ degrees....how about you riders from the South and West?

my favorite writer, I follow his writing in Road and Track magazine. haven't read his motorcycle stuff, but I assume it is great. Sorry though, Don't have the book. Would love to read it if it is found.
