Well it may be late, but I did ride in the St. Pats parade, and I present two pictures. The first is me and my 10YO grandson, who is a hockey player, getting ready to go to the Peoria, IL St. Pats parade yesterday. You can see the Irish national flag wrapped up on my antenna. Second picture is of my grandson while we were waiting for the parade to start with my bike with some decoration on it and the flag unfurled, with other St. Pats stuff in the background, but I am not in the picture unless I am somwhere in the chrome trim! Anyway, these are late, but I am so proud of my grandson, that I thought you should all see these pics! Hope everyone had a great weekend. My Star Touring group had its first official ride today (sunday) on great roads and almost a 100% turnout, of course we stopped at an eatery!

Hey Joe, if you get near Rantoul, IL anytime in the future (near Champaign, south of Chicago) there is an AF museum with a unique Connie on display. Navy version with big radar bubbles top and bottom. I consider the Connie probably the most beautiful of the big planes. If you look past the domes, you can see the shape that is soooo nice. This plane also has a distinction that it HAS to be manned by either a current or ex Navy sailor before anyone can go through it. They consider it still active or something, with technology they want protected. It has not been stripped down. I can't believe how small it is inside! Lots of other good stuff at that museum.

bike feels wiggly... need help
dynodon replied to dozer520's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
have you checked the bolts on the triple tree? REbuilt the forks and/or checked/changed the oil? Checked the steering head bearing tightness? Also, inspect the rear suspension, these have been known to dry out and the bearings can cause some handling problems. Seems like you need to go through it from one end to the other and do a full inspection/rebuild/lube etc. -
Bob, is that truly homemade? Just asking, because you can buy lots of mailboxes that look like other things, this is supposed to be homemade. But if it stands, then I am to be in the St. Pats parade in Peoria Saturday.

oooo, OOOO, good one! We live in a rural type setting and although it has been a few years, we used to have kids that played mailbox baseball from time to time so there are lots of improvised boxes intended to break an arm!

I am a paid member, but can't even access anything that would let me renew or check my renewal date. Didn't get any sort of renewal request. Odd.

Haven't been able to get on the Venturers site for several days. Says there are not forums period. Still logged in. I know it is a competing site, but many if not most people there are also on here. Just wondered if it was me or the site? Thanks

I will second the Shark Evoline. I wanted an open face for hot days, but in the evening, when bugs came out....wanted a shield, but didn't want to stop, and what about when rain came up? The Evoline is the only, repeat the ONLY one out there that will give you just about every option, and although the lawyers have put the caution about doing it, you CAN change from chin bar down to up, and from up to down with one hand while riding. The only thing it is missing is a visor to help block low (on the horizon) sunlight. But I put a strip of dark tint near the top 1" or so of the visor, and that works pretty well. May wife and I both have them, and they are holding up well. They are a bit heavy, but you get used to that. Maybe a touch over your $250 price point, but IMO well worth it. It is the only helmet I use now, year round.

Rod, Congrats on your first victory in the Scavenger hunt. Your prize package is on its way to you including an all first class trip to a location of your choice, you pay for travel, lodging food etc, but it is a great prize! You also get one slightly used tire from Scooter Bob, guaranteed to still have rubber on the sidewalls....down near the bead! or maybe on the inside,, Finally, I will contribute one quart of used synthetic engine oil, packaging extra, bring a sponge, it is under my Venture..... About next target, don't worry if it has been done before, this has been going on a long time! I know where there is a helicopter in my home town, but that would be too easy.

Go for it no matter what!

too late for the hunt, but I promised myself I would get these pictures and post them because the place is so neat. Union IL, about 10 miles North of Lincoln IL. This neat abandoned train station and maybe four houses. No tracks left. Didn't explore inside, but it looks like a solid building. Should be saved somehow.

Don't think there are any screens or any thing of the old outdoor theaters left in my area. So I won't be in this one. Good target though, be interesting to see what is out there.

Playboy, looks like you left nothing to chance this time! GREAT job. and interesting pictures. Yes, what is next. Also, the flu took a hike after a 4 hour midday nap Thursday and I am feeling about 99% today, just in time for a nice nap in front of the TV during the 500.

Dingy, My tire store will rotate and balance my tires every 5000 or so miles. I have been doing this for years, and never have they done it that they didn't have to remove most of the weights and re-balance. Same machine etc. As tires wear, the weight balance can be thrown off easily. Plus stuff shifts around slightly inside the tires. I have the Centramatic balancers on my Wing, and they make a noticable difference in smoothness. Yes, at low speeds, the weights are off for bead type or Centramatic type balancers, but at low speeds it doesn't make a difference. That is why you can't balance a tire at 10 mph! Plus wheel balancing machines balance at one specific RPM, and what is good for 50 mph may not be any good at all at 70. My Centramatics will take care of balance through any speed I care to go. Finally, we have all had to ride on roads with repeating quick bumps. I can feel the Centramatics smooth those out on one particular road I have to ride all the time. Had years of feeling it without the balancers, and with them. Smoother now. Wild.

flb, that is EXACTLY what an old roommate of mine used to say, he would call anyone "Ignorant" if they lacked an answer on about anything, and then quote the definition like you did. But he was intending an insult, make no mistake about that. Despite the definition, the word is an insult in America.

agree, too much weight. You can get any number of decent lightly used trailers for $1000 that are appropriate for a bike, also, many new ones sell for less than that. Was that a camper? If a camper, then my comments about price above aren't quite right!

And I have had a lot of nice riding days this last week, but the wife and I have been fighting this flu thing going around (I even go the shot again this year) and its raining today. So maybe this weekend I can get out. Some interesting shots, keep em coming!

What a stand-up guy! We give DanOh a free pass and he declines! Integrity lives in the scavenger hunt! I really had no idea what to do on this one (lion or lamb) but DanOh gave me an idea, I think there may be some Lions at some county/state buildings in Peoria.
-
I agree, DanOh went to so much trouble (tempting fate for a parking ticket) that I am sure I see his reflection in the mirror stem. (skinny dude!) So I say set the next target DanOh!

Try the various Goldwing sites. the GL1800riders.com forums have a lot of experience in the older bikes online, so I would try that one first, the biggest forum for the Goldwing.

good enough Bob! If I hadn't come down with some bug, I would have beat you to it, but I still want to get the pics of that one and post it. so what is next?
-
Thanks Bob, I know you held back some! Oddly, the new saddle does feel warmer, it isn't heated, but I wonder what it will feel like in summer? May have to use the anti-monkey butt powder I got at our local motorcycle club Christmas gift exchange! The wife and I are taking a lunch ride today, and I will have the phone fully charged!

OK, between rain fronts today (Wednesday, 2-15) I got the Wing out with the new Ultimate King seat and took a ride. Had lunch with some friends, and one of them told me about this wonderful train station, oddly sitting in a small town (maybe 6 houses?) that he said I should use as my scavenger hunt picture. So I took about a 35 minute ride to the small town, and WOW, one of those buildings with the glazed tile walls, traditional roof, and lots of neat decoration. Abandoned, but looking like it might not take that much to make it liveable! No train tracks left. So here is the picture................................. OH NOOOOOoooooo! Dying phone battery would not let me take a pic!:headache::headache::bang head: Oh, the new seat is WONDERFUL! almost 2 hours of riding my backside had no hot spots, and the new seating position (moved me back about 2") changes the entire feel of the bike. I have had a love/hate relationship with this Wing since getting it a couple years ago. Now I feel it is truly mine. My Ultimate King seat has given me a throne worthy of the title, and I have a backrest coming to complete the ensemble.:happy65::happy65: Sorry about all the multiple images, but that is/was the way I feel. oh and about that train station, now with the new seat, I am just waiting for the rain to stop, so I can go back and even if someone gets it in the meantime, you WILL want to see this station, and I will try to get lots of pics of it. Everyone have fun, someone get a station before I do!
