  1. Chris, Excellent catch! Still have to get my bike out of the shop, but can't wait to start hunting again.
  2. Joe, better hurry while it is raining in my town and my bike is in the shop, I know of a sign to get, but can't get there right now! Your opportunity is here!
  3. Twigg, I will help you out, there is an "ignore" link if you click on the user name in the upper left (I got it wrong in my first post so am updating, feel free to blast me for that too). Please feel free to add me to your list, and I will do the same. Be a lot better for everyone.
  4. Wow, just wow. This could be fun, but I'm not going to feed the troll. Take that as you want to.
  5. Twigg, sorry about the not getting your name right, but you really went overboard. I have no interest in insulting you by changing one letter in your on-line name. It was simply not reading it right. As for the rest, I am going to let it be. Not worth the battle you obviously want. Everyone else, glad to see the fun move on.
  6. Mike, I was trying to find a way to tell you I appreciate your comment, I hope you didn't take mine as being testy. Oh and SNAP Trigg took you to task. I wasn't here at the start, but have been enjoying this thread and the fun times for quite a while. It's not broke if you follow the simple rules, so I don't see the need to fix it.
  7. Trigg, IT says clearly you AND your bike. Not "or". Mike, I did move it along. If some want to change all the rules, then maybe a separate thread for that type of target would be best. Now to find a sign for a venture (business sign) with "Venture" in it.
  8. I bought a kit made for motorcycles from our local GWRRA club. Not sure if these are available just in Illinois, or our region or nationally. Maybe contact someone in your area and see if they have them. They include an ice pack, and large pads to cover road rash. Most store kits have small pads for the type of cuts regular people get, we need bigger pads. (these in this kit are womens Maxi pads, cheap and they do a great job).
  9. RoyalStar:That is your classic (and ever so funny) Witch flying into a pole! Yes, exactly what I had in mind. Now I start looking for that "Venture" (very topic appropriate!)
  10. Twigg, I understand your comment, but from the beginning, the rules have been to include you and your bike in the picture. It has been the constant from day one. Here are the rules from post #1: Here are the simple and basic rules... Don't forget.. this is for fun and entertainment!! The person who scores first on the target gets to set the next target. Targets must be fairly generic so that anyone can hit them with a little effort. No targets like, you, your bike, and the Golden Gate bridge for instance.. A more suitable target would be - you, your bike, and a truss style bridge. Nothing dangerous or illegal. No old pictures. You must seek out the target after it's announced, not use a picture you already have. No Photoshopping. Targets must involve you and your bike in some way. Anyone may announce a prize for hitting the next target (prizes should be of minimal value or for the purpose of fund raisers on this site). A suitable prize would be a ride bell for instance. Post your picture (or a link to your picture) in this thread. I have found that I can put myself in the picture without ever getting out of the seat by using the mirror. Others have used chrome on the side of the bike, their reflection in a window. It has been part of the fun to see how inventive you can be in getting in the picture. I would guess if a bunch of people here want to change that, then maybe it could change, I just don't see it as a problem. You will be at every picture taken in any case. You don't need to bring a tri-pod or have anyone else along to help take the picture. My vote is to leave the rules as they are.
  11. OK, went out yesterday and got this: Still haven't figured out how to post pics that show up. hints? IF OK with the group, then next target is you, your bike and any sort of Halloween decoration. Bonus points for witches flying into telephone poles....(ok, no bonus points, I just like those!).
  12. AK, don't see where anyone said it was a competition, but in actuality I guess it is, everyone competes to get the target. Been lots of targets I couldn't get, didn't complain. But being inventive is part of the fun. My only point was if the target isn't gotten for a long time, people lose interest in the game. Lots of times in the past it has been changed to something totally different to move it along. I have had to do that with at least one of my own targets if I remember right. So it is picture of your bike, a state sign, (welcome to or entering) other than the one you live in, an hour from your home with a passenger, (or maybe pay someone to pretend to be a passenger!) Someone go get this so we can keep moving!
  13. The basic rule is the person that got the last target sets the new target. AKrefugee set the current target, so he should be the one to modify it. The state sign target is a problem for some people (like me) that live in the middle of the state and I don't have a plan to ride to a state line anytime soon with winter coming on, so it would be nice to change it entirely to something that is able to be gotten without such a long ride. If a target goes nowhere for a long time, it is time to change it.
  14. Over a month, time to set a new target, keep it to you and your bike, not a passenger or a cop or others and make it something people can get to without going to another state please. Especially as it gets colder, shorter rides are the norm. Game is more fun when more people can play, and find things on normal rides.
  15. Mike, I understand your frustration, but I have used USPS for almost 20 years in my little mail order/internet business and never had a package lost. I am amazed at the service. also have never had a package lost at UPS. Had one that was in a train wreck, UPS called me and said they were returning what was left of the package and they paid me for the stuff in it plus refunded my shipping. So that doesn't count as one lost, they weren't in charge of the train! LOL Now Fed EX.....I tried them a few years ago. Had customers that wanted overnight shipping, I got the first package to them in plenty of time, took three days. No refund. Second overnight, I double checked pickup times and had it there, 2 days, no refund. Final package, I took to their walk up counter and got a receipt time stamped. THREE days and no refund. I tossed everything that had Fed Ex on it and won't darken their door ever again.
  16. Guy was lucky for sure. I put on a convention at the lodge at Snoqualmie pass a few years ago in July. Great location, much cheaper than down in Seattle, and not that far away. What a wonderful area, and the salmon. Wow, SOOooo much better than in Illinois! (DUH!). We have a ham radio Winger in our GWRRA group in Illinois. He is from Bloomington, IL and rides a yellow Wing. Name is Norm. Ham radio on his bike, I don't know his handle/call sign, but if you think you might have talked with him, I can ask. Safe riding out there.
  17. Please put up with my story, will try to make it short. I quit riding 25 years ago like a lot of boomers to raise a family and work. About 1998 I was empty nest and thinking about riding again, but my hips were so bad I couldn't comfortably ride a lawn tractor let alone swing a leg over a bike. I tried out a trike, but only for a couple hundred yards, no lean, no fun. Two years later I got both hips replaced over one winter, doing them about 3 months apart. Best decision I have ever made other than marrying the love of my life and raising those two kids. Anyway, my pain was GONE. Knees and ankles that I thought were bad, were better and now 12 years later, I am 6 or so years into riding again, took a few years to get used to my new hips, and get back in the mood for a bike. Maybe the third best decision I have ever made. I am enjoying the ride (my wife also got another bike, and that is wonderful) again, and have made a bunch of new friends here, in the STAR club and GWRRA. Took a 4500 mile dream trip this last July with several Wing friends and wow, what a trip. I have also been considering that even with the new hips, I will eventually not be able to handle a big bike, and if I don't want to go to a scooter, would I consider a trike or sidecar again? The answer is yes, to continue to enjoy the company of my new friends (I know they would accept me in a car, but it won't be the same). I don't know which I would choose, but I will start looking for chances to try some different ones out. I wish you luck with your decision, but if you have insurance, or can afford it, get a new hip(s) if you are at that point. It is not as big a deal as just a few years ago. Between my left and right hip surgeries, my Dr. went to a new procedure that made recovery a bunch better the second time. I understand that they have made that leap and more on an even newer procedure, and that might even make it a bit cheaper? In any case, talk to your doctor and find out what your options are.
  18. I think America's Best has some good trailers, but when I first saw this I thought, that can't be the air ride trailer, and it isn't, that is the EscaPade! That trailer is a bit more expensive and on a par with what I think is the best motorcycle trailer bar none, the Bushtec. Both have air ride suspensions. When i went to the EscaLade page, and saw the video of the trailer bouncing over small bumps, I knew it wasn't the good one. May be a good basic trailer, but for over two grand, you could get a lightly used EscaPade or Bushtec if you look around, and you won't believe the difference. Air suspension means you almost never feel the trailer behind you, empty OR loaded! Quality is top notch. Safety is best you can get. I think one of the top air ride trailers is a better buy for anyone that will tow fairly often. Plus they hold their value better. Meaning if you get a good deal on one (some owners just don't know how to value them when they sell) and take care of it, you should get most of your money back, or even make a few bucks when it comes time to sell. Again, nothing against Americas Best but if you want the truly best trailer, it is Escapade or Bushtec.
  19. State Farm told me my Bushtec was not covered. Extra policy was under $20 per year though, and trailer is worth more than a couple bucks so I took it. Bike would be covered anyway. Only instance I can think of is IF the trailer is not covered, AND it causes the accident?
  20. I wave the BS flag! Having done some driving and riding in Florida, I doubt you can find 318 much less 831 continuous miles with only 11 curves of any sort. I know it is for fun, but even fun should have some hint of truth. I spend 1.5 days and 600 miles in "flatistan" (Southern Fl) and yes it is flat (from slightly below sea level to about 20 feet above is the range I found) but LOTs of curves and some fun riding. Nice scenery, and for a northerner, some great smells in the fields of strawberries etc. Can't wait to do it again, especially in winter.
  21. I think an upgraded V4 based on the current driveline would be a winner. Direct injection, variable cam timing, modern basics would give you more power and better MPG easily. Go back to the suspension of the Royale, it was better than anything out there, and would be a big selling point. I didn't really want a V=twin, so I went with GoldWing. The suspension on my 86 royale was far better than my 2010 Wing, but man that engine/frame etc make one great touring bike. I would love to love the Victory, but just too much vibration, my Royale and the Wing put the Victory to shame. The Electra Glide is really quite a nice touring bike. Vibration when moving is reasonable, but man when you stop, that is just silly. I think the big bike touring market just isn't big enough for Yamaha to invest in anything major, and they think that big V-twins are the way to go. If that was true, then why do so many Wings sell? Maybe its because not everyone wants a V-twin or even one that LOOKs like a twin. That is the main reason I don't want the current Venture, if I am going to ride a make believe twin, I might as well have the real thing.
  22. did a google search for Tiki anything in my area, and they are all a pretty good ride, and I have done a bunch of trips this summer, so am staying closer to home for a while.
  23. Only a few live near a city big enough to have a major league team. Want to make it any pro baseball team? A, AA,AAA, BBBB etc? Don
  24. Yea, Utah, heat must have got to me. At least I remembered Colorado right! I couldn't see any fireworks from my house and wasn't going out in the heat, some other area fireworks were cancelled. I had enough heat on the trip home. My yard will go up like a Colorado forest if I strike a match near it! You just hang around waiting to correct me?
  25. I just got back from two+ weeks in Colorado and Idaho with friends from the Goldwing club. So didn't even know about the fireworks target, but many were cancelled in my area, and it was too darn hot to go riding that night anyway. I have a few bottle rockets on hand, but am afraid to shoot them off for the pic and start a fire! there were three bikes and three trikes that did 4000+ miles (I did 4500 because of a side trip before the others joined in). We avoided the fires out that way, and rode some really great roads. But here is a picture with my bike and some visual fireworks on our trip, the continental divide:
