Well there IS a bike and rider in the picture, just not you! I have been wracking my brain (scrambling what little is left) trying to come up with the target around Peoria, IL. No joy so far. Plus it is raining right now!

The son of a good friend of mine was killed by a drunk driver going the wrong direction on a divided highway. His family went through several YEARS of delays and really nasty actions, but eventually they saw the woman that killed their son go to jail. This was a young man with a child on the way, a good job, a good future and a very nice person. Someone who was going to add to the joy in the world in many ways. The woman that killed him had had more than one other DUI, and even tried to blame the accident on the guy she killed! Luckily the court system saw through that for once. I can't say that seeing the woman go to jail made it better for them, but it was certainly better than seeing her get out and kill someone else. For them it wasn't about money, it wasn't about revenge, it was about justice and protecting others from the heartache they will have the rest of their lives. I wish you the best, hang in there, and you must decide for yourselves what outcome you want and then stick to that plan.

that 1300 makes right at 100 hp, and has plenty of power for two up riding with trailer and luggage for a trip. I am not familiar with your 1800, but it is fair to assume you will notice some difference, but maybe instead of an excess of power, you have at least more than enough to get the job done and have fun? Most people think their RSV is plenty powerful. Carbs? they are pretty painless, and in most instances, riding in the mountains isn't a big deal, yes, it will be down some on power, but then even FI vehicles lose some power. If you LIVE in the mountains and ride up and down greatly varying heights all the time, then maybe you should stick with FI, but if you just visit once in a great while, it shouldn't be a problem and re-jetting won't be worth it on occasional trips. Also, those carbs mean no cat converters. That may be a good or bad thing depending on how "green" you are. The RSV should get 40 to 45 mpg on the highway, normal load. See if you can get a demo ride, because only you can judge if the power is enough. I know that my '86 VR (same basic bike mechanically as the current RSV) has more than enough power to keep up with some hot rod Gold Wing and BMW groups that I ride with.

Going through the next county seat one day in my car, I left the city limits and a big truck was in front going about 10 under the limit. Traffic was light, radar detector was quiet, and I didn't see anyone coming from in front or behind. I pulled out, by this time there were two semi's and I let the car breathe a little to a nice round number and was just pulling back in when the radar went off. I slowed to the speed limit and didn't see anything for a mile or two, then the two trucks turned off and behind them was a county cop. Must have been way back, but I suspected that if he got a good radar hit on me at that speed, the lights would be going right away, instead, he ran right up to within about one car length of my bumper and hung there. At 56 mph. Had my cruise on, and the detector turned off by then, but it was still visible. The cop stayed there for about 3 miles and then backed off to about 50 yards. I then pretty much figured out if he had me, he would have stopped me by now. Two lane, light traffic, plenty of safe places to pull over. He kept running up on me, and then backing down. I just kept cool, checked my mirrors and kept my cruise set. never sped up or slowed down, and kept EXACTLY to the middle of the lane. After about 15 miles, at the edge of the county, he finally turned off. I figured I had gotten my "freebie" for the month or more, and behaved the rest of the trip (mostly). It is the most a cop has played around without stopping me.

One thing I try to do to help me find legit companies online is look for full address and contact info. If all they give is an e-mail, or maybe one phone number, then I get more cautious.

Bump so I can find this topic easier. Why doesn't someone with the authority "stick" this topic again please?

oil filter options..
dynodon replied to painterman67's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Amsoil sells the filter for these bikes, just call their 800 number or look through their on-line site. Comes with both gaskets. -
I would donate, but we need to see what information there is out there. Eck said that his neighbor was following, do we have a better description than "blue Mustang"? Year, identifying damage, tires, race of driver, age, hair color etc. We need this before we put out a general call for a blue car. This person should be behind bars, no doubt about it, and if we get the word out, we can put some pressure on the local LEO's and prosecutor, along with area groups that will keep an eye out for this jerk. someone that knows Eck better than me needs to see what he is already doing, wants to do and what info is available. Lawyer types need to determine how we go about it without liability to this group or individuals, and especially Eck.

The car is worth getting, for free for goodness sakes. You can get anything for these cars, be sure to check out Moss Motors, get their catalog, the bible for "B" owners. Then learn every British electrics joke: Why do Brits drink warm beer? Lucas Fridges! There are hundreds of these jokes. It is "B" law that you learn them all. They are a fun car to drive, cheap to maintain once you get rid of the aforementioned Lucas junk, and they still look cooler than most sports cars. I had a 74 pre rubber bumper model, that I autocrossed to the AMGBA national Gymkahna (sp?) title in Illinois many years ago. The GT is the hardtop version that is more weather tight, but parts are a little harder to find. the hatch in the back was prone to leaks/rust. One of the best MG mechanics in the world is in Peoria, IL, let me know if you want to get in touch with him.

My "analog GPS" (paper maps) has never led me astray, at least by voice! LOL

my 86 VR has a strap in the right saddle bag that is for holding the tool kit. the factory kits come up on e-bay from time to time, but the SAME guy has been buying almost all of them, and they go for more than $100! The VR kit has a neat zippered bag with sockets and pockets that is a quality vinyl and padded unlike the cheap kits on most bikes. Tools are still pretty cheap though better than most. I refused to pay $100 for the kit so someone on this list was kind enough to sell me a kit from their RSV and I just added to it. Put it in the same spot. If your strap is missing from the saddlebag, you can use about any strap material, the slots should still be there.

I use Lexol Vinylex on the sidewalls only, careful to keep away from anything like tread. Wiped on this way, it should be zero problem, even in the rain. Spray on dressings and things that look "wet" WILL run in the rain, and should not be used. Those small cracks near the rim, or even small ones in between the tread should be no problem, just keep an eye on them.

Get the G8 if you want something more practical. But don't overlook the V6 version of the new Camaro. 300 hp, manual tranny, lighter weight and better mpg. Same looks. Less money is yet another reason to drive both versions before making the choice.

I put some in my '86 and the light DIRECTLY behind was MAYBE the same as before and there was NO light from the side or if you got off axis from right behind. There are other LED bulbs that have lights around the side and to the back, so you get light from the side or from the reflector, but I don't think it is worth the trouble. Get new 1157's and keep your lense and reflector clean and polished and you will have plenty of light. If you really want more LED type light, then get a stop/running light add-on bar that complements your stock lights. These work really well. I can't find one to fit my '86 VR, but the RSV works well with many of the light bars, with just a simple aluminum angle brace.

Bump, Well I am going looking next nice day for a dealer here in central IL. JD is the thing here in Illinois! Let's get this topic going again.

I see by your profile you sell electronics. So I guess you are selling radios to repo men etc? Got a web site? I sell car/bike detailing stuff (waxes, detailer spray, interior/leather cleaners etc) and it was dead last November, OK in December and actually normal in January. Feb and March have fallen off a cliff. Luckily I run low overhead and NO inventory on credit. Just web costs and a little advertising. It is a semi-retirement business for me. Glad things are going well for you, may the economy get better for all those who are hurting.

ANY plating on ANY rotor will be gone, gone, gone within the first 100 miles or so. The only lasting effect of the plating is on the rest of the disk where it will help for a while with rust. We have a 2003 Silverado, other than some repairs (under warranty) to the 4WD system in front, we have had zero problems. Really love our truck. Four wheel disks work great, and we now have 55,000 miles and are on the original pads and disks all around. We pull a 5000 pound horse trailer and a 5000 pound car trailer, and Did pull an 8000 pound enclosed car trailer for a while. We have the 1500 series with the 5.3L gas V8. Get 19 on the highway without the trailer and 11-13 WITH the trailer. The engine/tranny have been flawless, and the Bose stereo is the best I have ever heard from the factory in anything I have tried (haven't driven any $100,000 stuff, but can't imagine it being that much better). Love the seats, and the truck is our faithful campanion. We just bought a second extended warranty bumper to bumper, for another 3 years, because we could see no reason to trade up, especially during these times. We live in Chevy truck country here in Central Illinois, but Ford sells lots. Most all of our friends have Chevy and have no real problems. I would not worry about GM, if they go Bankrupt, they will continue on.

Have you tried turning the adjuster tab for the auto volume all the way down to take that part out of the equation? If it still does wierd things, then maybe the problem isn't with the auto volume, but with the unit. Try removing the head unit, take some electrical contact cleaner (Radio Shack, maybe auto parts stores) and spray down both sides of the connector good, and use an air hose to blow it out some. Then seat the radio and remove it sevearal times to make sure the contacts are solid. Also, make sure that the unit seats well and stays down, you may need to adjust the locking tabs. Try a little alchol or a soft cloth with some mild solvent on it on the screen over the mic, just dab it a little and then again with a dry cloth. When I first got my '86, I thought that was a button and pushed on it like crazy thinking it was stuck in, but then got an owners manual (my bike didn't come with one) and found out what it was. Luckily I didn't seem to damage it and my auto volume works great.

They have miniature golf, outdoor walk-in (drive-in) with movies on weekends in the summer, and a planned go-kart track. Vollyball and horseshes and more. Great food, friendly service, and they plan to continue outdoor eating this spring (2009). Wonderful root beer, ice cream and "Didley Dogs" with chilli~! Always a favorite ride for the wife and I for lunch or dinner and now for breakfast too! They hold old car shows from time to time also. Just off Rt 89 on the North end of Metamora, turn East at the lighted sign, and follow the drive to the restaurant behind a building and down a little. Rt. 89 is a decent ride North or cut over to Route 26 following the Illinois river before or after stopping.

If you are just going for the weekend, it should not be a problem. If you can afford to eat out, then don't pack cooking utensils. A Boy Scout type cooking kit takes up almost no room though, Most camping stores should have something like that. A small flexible cooler will hold enough for a snack on the way, and dinner/breakfast, then go shopping for the next day? My wife and I camped for almost two weeks on two bikes about 20 years ago, but we didn't have any hard luggage, just soft bags and racks on the back. Small two person tent, minimal cooking stuff, and we did fine.

I was out riding in the Peoria area that day, and saw plenty of examples of motorcycles speeding. Mainly the crotch rockets. They were blasting up and down the 35mph main drag at 50+. Yes, quite often, the motorcycle IS speeding. I didn't read from the reported copy that the story was slanted, if the cops made that assessment and the reporter noted it, it is fair game. Hey, I ride, I don't like to see motorcycles put in bad light, but when a lot of them ride like the kids on crotch rockets, and Harley and other riders have super loud exhaust, then you reap what you sew, only in this case WE ALL (motorcycle riders) get dinged with the bad behavior of a few. Heck at 5:30am Wednesday, it was going to be a great day, and I was woke up to the sound of a couple Harley sounding bikes making noise for miles in the country, on the way to work. Knew it was going to be a warm day, good for riding, and that the loud pip contengent was already out making MY life more miserable in more ways than one. This morning, nice and quiet with lots of fog and wet roads! I was on my best behavior on my fun ride, stayed way back from cars, signaled early, took the less busy roads and enjoyed my ride.

Bought my Gen 1 '86 a little over a year ago and have put about 12,000 miles on it. Before that I owned a Honda 750 Super Sport with a windjammer and hand held CB in the fairing. When I got my "new" Yamaha the controls didn't freak me out, but they sure were interesting. After getting used to riding a big bike and getting my two wheel skills back, I started messing with the controls and found them logical and easy to get used to. Late this summer I took an Ultra Glide (brand new) for a ride on one of the local dealers ride days. the controls on this bike totally baffled me, but I am sure I could eventually get used to them. But for sure, they will take the eyes off the road more than my VR even when you get them memorized. My controls are higher, and easier to use. I have had only one issue with my controls, the right channel on the headsets drops down in volume from time to time, but a well placed professional and electrical engineer approved WHACK to the radio area brings it back. LOL I like the older Gold Wing style, think it has held up well, and do NOT like the Harley style. Oh, that Ultra, shook so much coming to a stop and at idle that it blurred my vision! NO way I am paying 20 large (or less for used) to get my brains more scrambled than they already area. Got back on my 23 YO VR and felt like I was on a brand new super high Ultra quality machine. Lots of people in the group I ride have the Gen 2 RSV and they love it. I have not had a chance to ride one yet, but can imagine I would fit and like it, but I want a frame mounted fairing with the room and features it adds. Sure would like to explore belt drive though, after a couple times fixing the shaft drive on mine.

We went from gas heat to a geothermal system. Of course it is all electric. Still heat water with gas, gas stove and dryer. We like our geothermal system, it is saving money, but is more noisy with the compressors running all the time (or most of the time). We did three deep loops rather than a wide shallow system.
