  1. Pinwall Cycle usually is parting out 2nd Gens regularly....they have one starter on ebay right now.
  2. When at a stop in traffic with brake on, you are running the brakelights (stock 2 bulbs)plus the antidive solenoids (86-93) in the forks...so it will drop but usually to battery voltage.
  3. The 1st Gen has a Reserve Lighting Unit....what it does is switch power to other filament if you switch to a failed one... ie....high beam failed....when you switch to high beam the RLU sends power to low beam to maintain a headlight. low beam failed....when you switch to low beam it sends reduced power to high beam (to prevent blinding oncoming traffic). Normally though if everything is working right....you should have a bulb failure alarm on CMS (the headlight is the larger light icon) and whenever you are running on the failed beam and the RLU is powering the alternate the white HEADLAMP dash light should be lit up. You might also check the reserve lighting unit to make sure the connections are clean on it as usually you can't see such as major change in lighting when it takes over...so the voltage is probably too low. If you are getting no CMS alarm using the bad low beam....remove bulb and try the good beam...see if the CMS works for the "bad" high beam.
  4. Were your voltage tests done at the socket with the headlight lit?
  5. Your best bet is to do a voltage test through the circuit..... into CMS on low beam out of CMS on low beam at the bulb socket to determine exactly where the drop is occuring ie headlight switch, or CMS, or wiring or socket.
  6. If you do a Google search on Howell's Sheet Metal Co you will find a number of complaints....the BBB gives them a rating of F... good luck
  7. Is the tach steady or bouncing down to zero and back up....the fuel pump relay needs to see firing cycles on #2 coil (which the tach also reads) to put power to the pump points set (after the 5 sec delay). If the tach is reasonably steady check the fuel pump relay is not shutting off the power to the pump while engine running, and you are running out of fuel.
  8. I think what Paul is saying..
  9. Flyinfool posted a link to the step by step procedure for testing....start at the beginning... and follow it through. Its just my opinion, but I think unhooking your battery cable while its running is a risky procedure for the electronics on your bike.
  10. Where are you testing voltage on the '01?
  11. I don't think I work connect an LED into the black/white....it runs at low voltage around 1.5 V..and you might backfeed into TCI.
  12. You would want to test for battery voltage on the red/white wire and the blue wire at your starter relay with key on. If voltage is good on both the relay coil is good. You could then ground the blue wire and if relay cranks the starter the relay is fine. If the starter relay checks out good you might have to do some checks on the starting circuit cutoff relay, the blue wire goes over there before going to the starter button, which grounds the circuit to operate the starter relay. Your various interlocks are wired around the cutoff relay to determine whether using starter is permitted.
  13. heres the fork cap plug... http://www.wemoto.com/parts/picture/YH-26H231680000/
  14. Its to test the voltage capability of the ignition....adjusting a gap the spark has to jump wider till it can't fire. The electrotester is doing it on a running engine vs just grounding a plug to head. They were using 0.25" (7 X spark plug gap) as the minimum acceptable for a good ignition system.
  15. they are also for the smaller carbs...
  16. You might also consider leaving the YICS system off when you have the engine out, if it was still in service (seeing one open YICS port on #1 intake). The chambers tend to develop leaks as they get older.
  17. I would think while doing Franks bulb load test, you could also test the loaded AC voltage, as bulb intensity is a judgement call.
  18. What do you mean sounds like a weak pump..?
  19. Drewman... Gen1 is a 83-93 Venture. Gen2 is a 99-13 Venture.
  20. iphlue.... the 1st gen switch is obsolete....RSV uses a different switch.
  21. no not Italian.... not something you'd download either...
  22. okay....heres one to keep things rolling
  23. 1913 Sears....Plum Crazy color...
