  1. On my 99 rsv I had a similar problem with reflections. My wife sewed up a little black cloth cover with elastic that slips over the chrome gas cap that solved my problem. Mike(cami)
  2. I have had excellent results with Sea Foam. Used it about double strength. My pilot jets were so bad would only run on a full chock. After about 2 or 3 gallons of gas it, 99 rsv, started to settle down where I could drive it. After a 70 mile road trip all is well.

Look at SOLAS(safety of life at sea) certified reflective tape. Made for marine environment. A 1" wide and 12' long roll is about 13.00 on EBay. Also look for reflective tape for semi trailers, a 2" wide and 12" long piece I have bought for 1 cent on EBay. 6" are white and 6" are red. Also available in rolls. Mike
  4. As an alternative to Daymaker bulbs I use these bulbs. I live and ride in Mexico and am not bound by U. S. regulations for lighting. I only use one bulb and save the other one for a spare. The 7" Daymaker headlight bulb puts out a lot less light and is more money and you must modify your bike to make it fit. With these led bulbs you simply change the bulb. I try to avoid driving in Mexico at night, not because of other vehicles but because the road conditions even on the toll roads are much worse. Recently a friend of mine in a Ford pick up had to replace his left front spindle because of a pot hole he did not see at night. These bulbs are readily found on E Bay. Specifications Bulb Size: H4 (HB2,9003) High Low Beam LED Quantity: 2pcs OSRAM CSP/COB chips Power Consumption: 1200 Watt Set /600 Watt bulb Lumens (Light Flux):180000 Lms Set / 90000 Lms bulb Voltage: DC 9V-32V Beam Angle: 360 Deg. High / 270 Deg. Low Color Temperature: 6000K-6500K Pure White Housing: 6063 Diecasting aluminum IP68 waterproof and dust proof Working Life: 50,000+ hours Working Temperature: -40 to +80 deg.C. Hope this information helps you. Mike
  5. With my log cabin home I had to spend a lot of time and money sealing joints and spaces between some of the logs as they dry out and shrink. I had to recoat with a log sealer quite often. Very pretty to look at. A lot of problems around doors and windows. Using a trailer in the boonies has it own set of problems, mainly keeping the mice and other small critters out. I lived in a trailer in the Mountains of Colorado. Best of luck. Cami
  6. For more tire information, check out the venture riders org, tech library on tires. A lot of those folks are using Avon tires with very good results. The Avon tires have a higher load carrying rating than the Dunlop tires. I ride and live in Mexico, roads are a lot rougher here than in the states. The roads are so bad I only ride during daylight hours. I am running Avon tires on my 99 rsv. Have not had them on the bike long enough to make any statements on wear, but ride and control are very good. On my gen 1 Venture royal I ran Metzler front and rear but did not get very good mileage out the front tire. Hope this will give you more information and a different perspective to help you choose.
  7. I had the same problem on my 1999 RSV. Took it into the shop and was told the pilot jets were clogged. Yamaha told me to double the dosage of STP or Sea Foam cleaner, set the idle higher to keep it running off of the 1/2 choke setting. I ran about 2 gallons of gas through and little by little was able to lower the idle speed, now the bike now runs fine. Hope this works for you. Mike
  8. **** Will any year calipers of the R6 series fit on a stock 99 RSV and what models use a 14mm master cylinder. I live in Mexico and must do all of my shopping on line, so any detailed information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks MIke (cami)
  9. I have used this system on two different Yamahas, Virago 750's. The rear turn indicator bulbs are a single contact bulb. Go to Auto zone and purchase two double contact bulb sockets and bulbs. Wire the biggest element into the turn indicator circuit. Wire the smaller element into the running light circuit. You will have to extend the holder wires so you can tap into the bikes wiring. When complete you have the original turn indicator circuit and two extra amber running lights in the rear. The double contact bulb holders come with wires attached and fit into the existing single contact space. I will use this same system on my 1999 Venture after I get the rest of the bike squared away. Hope this Helps. Any questions please contact me. Cami from Sonora, Mexico
