If you have the #'s you don't need a stealer you need a locksmith.

Just don't be too quick in telling them that you weren't injured. That's what they fear the most! Just tell them you are not sure yet, that you're going for a check-up and just watch how quick they offer to settle. On the other hand the estimators they send out to write up the damage are pretty good at what they do. When some idiot cliped me in the parking lot I figured 150 or so, it took him 2 seconds to tell me it would be over 500 and when I told him that my wife's leg had made physical contact with the fender although there wasn't even a bruise, another check for 200 materialized for what they called "pain and stress" Go figure.....

Easy guys, Calif. ain't so bad. They even allow lane splitting! :whistling:The only thing they insist on is that you wear a helmet so your brains don't splatter everybody. -
Have you replace a coil on your RSV?

Had a Kawi Nomad almost 10 years, the only thing the dealer did was change a tire, and botched it! Had Hondas since early 70's to late 80's never let the dealers touch them, but found them to be exceptionally arogant and unhelpfull. So far haven't had any warranty issues on my RSV but did run into mostly uninformed dealers. The nearest dealer to my house (this guy has been here for a looong time and is exclusive Yamaha) actually has employees on the parts counter that don't know what a Venture is!!!! And of course many years ago I had a Norton 500 that cracked a cylinder. The dealer just plain told me - throw it away, youll never find one. Ultimately I did cause he was right - the only way I would have been able to get one would have been in someone's suitcase direct from UK, needless to say for virtually the cost of a bike! So all these complaints about dealers don't phase me at all. I would be amazed to find a good one.

Well, you went and ruined my day!!!! I am so damn jealous!!!! Did more or less that a few years back - sure enjoyed it! Have a great trip and watch for bison in yellowstone - they march in a heard right down the road, some are pretty cranky and don't like it if you stare them in the eye. Just make sure you take lots of photos for future posting. When drivig through Montana and such watch out for on-going rodeos they can fill up every motel for 200 miles. I got stuck in a WallMart parking lot that way with about a hundred other dead tired people.

HELP! - New Engine Fins to install!
az1103 replied to Christo's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I guess that must a specialized Yamaha multipurpose tool ! But don't forget to use the magic words while using it . I believe they are "Why you lousy piece of ****!!, I'll show you":rotf::rotf: -
Man! you got that right! Perfect example of what happens when you loose control of your borders!!
-
How did those rotors get under spec? If they were turned you can forget about waranty coverage. Anyhow, turning rotors is a useless provedure which only benefits the machine-shop. A good set of new pads will seat in a matter of a couple of days and the existing grooves in the surface only add to the effective surface area. Unless of course you install unnecessarily hard pads, which will squeal not give good stopping power and take forever to seat.

Did Laurel Canyon practically daily on my Honda back in 72 while working on my masters degree at UCLA. Occasionally Beverly Glen as well..... That's some old memories.....

By the way I have Nomad bag liners in excelent condition, let me know if you are interested.

If it were I would slash my throat!

I went from Nomad to RSV . Nomad is nice....good looks, good handling, good sound. Enjoyed it for 9 years. But on along trip with the RSV you arrive feeling great. On the Nomad you still vibrate for an hour or so!!!!

About time someone said something like that!!!!!! But can you ever immagine either of our so-called candidates saying something even close to this???!!! Never happen!!!!! All we get is two total dildoes....

Anyone Have a rear brake disk
az1103 replied to kantornado's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)

Actually, I'll have to disagree on this one... Pulsing brake can be the result of pad glazing which sometimes occurs with the use of a too hard brakepad. I went through 3 years of this on my Lexus LX470. The dealer would replace the pads under waranty and within a couple of months it would start pulsing again. The dealer gets paid by the factory for doing it so they were always obliging with a smile, but it didn't do me much good.... So finally I installed a softer pad myself, and the problem was history!!!! One sure way to find out is fine-sand the surfaces of your existing pads and if the problem lessens or disappears it's not warped discs.

Well, here is a good opportunity for a worthwhile project for someone who has too much time on their hands; Change all the main jets to a uniform configuration and report on the resulting changes! I, for one, would be very interested in the results. So please document and report.

I may be wrong on this, but I believe it has to do with getting good continuity of torque from a 70degree V engine. If you look at the firing sequence and dwell diagram (3-10) you will see that the firing order alternates sides 1-3-2-4 and that there is a 70deg. interval between the 3 and 2 cycles and then there is an overlap in the 4 and 1 cycles .Thus you may want a bit more or a bit less from the cylinders to get good torque continuity and maximize the power. Does that make any sense?

I saw a modification on another site which claims that linking the intake ports by joining the same vacuum ports which we use for sincronizing the carbs gives somewhat better low end torque, albeit at a slight sacrifice of idle smoothness....Has anyone here ever done such a thing?????????

Is it just me or is the server occasionally slamming the brakes today?

Exactly!!!!!!!!!! That's why I posed the question in the first place. I am realy not concerned about the figure itself but if you know what's a good average and watch your everyday performance you can usually tell when things are going sour before they become serious. When you are dealing with a twin even small problems will become obvious at idle and under heavy acceleration. But a V4 is a pretty smooth running affair that covers up minor problems by it's natural smoothness. So if you are always way up on mpg and running ethyl, I would be carefull with ethanol or regular because you are probably running lean and may be subject to preignition. On the other hand if your mpg is consistently low without a heavy hand on the throttle then you are probably running a bit rich and are subject to totally different issues such as fast carbon build-up.

Looks to me like the 38mpg I am getting is just about what's expected. So how do we account for the unusually high figures? If it was just a couple of mpg's I would say just statistical anomalies, but for those claiming over 46, 48 and even 50mpg that's 25% to 33% difference, way above what would account for rider style, me thinks... Something's smelling fishy here.

A couple of days ago i read a thread where someone said their 07RSV gave them 46 to 48 mpg on a trip averaging 70mph. Since a normal mixture of street and highway usually results in no more than around 45mph avg. to a max of around 50mph, I assume this was almost pure highway, constant speed, level ground. Nevertheless, I have never even in the best of circumstances have come even close to that mileage:confused24:The best I have ever gotten was 40, 42mpg on a purely highway, avg 50mph flat run. Normally, on a regular street-highway mix, two up, no crazy stuff easy ride I get a very consistent 38mpg, which I thought was pretty fair. What are others getting? I mean honest mileage. No wishfull thinking, please!
