Fishtail Exhaust choices for RSTD
Gary N. replied to twowheeltexan's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I used Bub slip ons and adapted some HD fishtail tips. Good looks and not too loud. -
Make sure the levers are releasing all the way. I had them stick a bit and make the switch and cut out the cruse control. Also check that the rear brake is releasing or that it's not making the brake light switch when you hit a bump or something.

How about a coat hanger or small welding rod bent in half?

There's a product made by Loctite called "Natural Blue" that is bio-degradable and safe to use on aircraft (aluminium etc). I like that for cleaning the engine on the bike. You have to dilute it depending on what you are using it to clean but I find a 50/50 mix in a hand sprayer does a fantastic job on the bike. It even works good on the white wall tires. I buy it at a local industrial supply place.

WARNING....WARNING.....WARNING DON'T SPRAY EASY OFF ON ALUMINIUM PARTS It will cause then to discolor or oxidize. Found that out the hard way on our oven.

I've used easy off oven cleaner to clean greasy car engines for years. It does a great job and is much cheaper to buy then other commercial degreasers used for that application. Be careful though, if you leave it on too long it will take the paint off too.

You read my mind Don. I may just do that. I'm going to start salvaging pieces off of the '03 tomorrow.

I went and picked up my '06 RSV today. My son, Jeff went along to keep me company and we had a real nice father and son bonding day. It didn't hurt that I bought lunch at a nice lunch buffet...LOL Here's a pic from the dealers web site. My camera got wrecked in the accident and I haven't had time to figure out how to use the new one yet. http://www.ggmotorcycles.ca/index_files/1300Venture.jpg

Mine are on all the time, high or low beam. Main thing is that they are aimed properly so that they don't blind on coming traffic.

Dan, Thanks for floating this one back to the top. I thought I had read all the posts relating to our accident but I somehow managed to miss this one. I have a lot of feelings regarding this issue. Leslie and I loved to ride together and we put a lot of miles on as a team. One of my greatest pleasures in life the last few years was riding and even more so since Leslie enjoyed it too. She was way more afraid when we were driving the space shuttle (RV) in the mountains in CO last summer than she ever was on the bike. I always smile when I think of her getting up and going back in the coach and sitting on the opposite side so she wouldn't have to look out over the edge of the road and see nothing. I really teased her about that. She always did have a fear of heights. Couldn't get higher than the first step on a ladder. While I was in the hospital in Ohio and right after I learned of Leslies' death I didn't care if I lived or died and I didn't even think about getting another bike. As time went by I gradually came to the conclusion that we only get one kick at the can and if riding a bike is what makes you happy than ride a bike. I have no memory of our accident and maybe that's why I'm so eager to get back in the saddle. If I could remember all the details I might feel differently. I've bought an '06 RSV and I'm hoping that I'll be able to ride it. Physically I don't think it's going to be a problem. I may not be able to ride very far for a while but I'm getting stronger all the time so I hope I'll get back to where I was. In closing I would just like to say once again, thank you to everyone for thinking about us and for your prayers and good wishes. But please don't let what happened to us keep you off your bikes. I don't know the statistics but I'll bet if we did, none of us would want to ride. You have to do what's right for you. Don't let someone else's accident affect you. I have a better reason than most not to ride again but I'm not going to let it stop me. If I die riding than I die happy.

Are you sure it's an '01? Has it been repainted? The first factory painted black cherry was '06. If it's an '06 you better by it for that price. If it's an '01 that's been re-painted then I would question the price. Factory colors for '01 Cherry Red/Bordeaux Stardust Silver/Forest Green

I have used this for filling small holes but I wouldn't trust it for anything structural. It's more like soldering or brazing then welding. JMHO

Used it from day one and love it. Never liked scuffing the toe on my boot up-shifting and I think it's easier to find neutral. All in what you get used to I guess.

I used a Show Chrome short / wide shield on my '03 RSV and loved it. I didn't care for looking through the high stock shield. Got my wife a snap on face shield for her 3/4 helmet and she never complained. I also had a Yamaha short shield but it was also the same width as the original. It was fine but in the cooler weather I though the Show Chrome extra width helped to keep some of the wind off my hands.

Here's a good web site for lots of info on just about anything involving RV's: http://www.irv2.com/

When we were there a couple of years ago, we enjoyed the Country Music Hall of Fame. Another place that was a lot of fun was a huge dance hall (Wild Horse Saloon) where they do a lot of "boot scoot'n". We sat upstairs, looking over the dance floor and had a lot of laughs. Grand ol Opry was good and we also had a tour of the old Ryman Auditorium. Just walking around the down town area at night, there are a lot of small venues with good entertainment. http://www.nashvillesightseeing.com/tours/tourType.cfm?ttid2=5581&gclid=CK6FzPiJkJICFQEjFQodXhPw_A

Hey Brad, Good paint and cheap prices are like oil and water, they don't go together. For all it would take to paint your bike a good base / clear is what I would use. Get a standard car colour and then you can match it up any time down the road. A litre of base would probably do a RSV at least twice. Or just go down to your local tractor supply store and get some JD green or IH red or AC orange. That stuff is durable and cheap.... but remember just because you can paint a ceiling with a roller doesn't mean you can use one on your bike.

My sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of Mark. May your sorrow be short and your memories be good.

I've had mine for a couple of years and really like it too. I call it the poor man's Corbin seat. Find it gets a little too cool though in late fall and early spring.

Rambling Man (Bruce) let me borrow a coffee table book he has called "The most scenic drives in America". It has a listing by region of 120 road trips, hard cover, 400 pages. It's very easy to use and could come in handy for planning trips. I found several places on e-bay to buy it. Here's a link for the seller I bought from. http://cgi.ebay.com/The-Most-Scenic-Drives-in-America-120-Spectacular-Roa_W0QQitemZ150209042189QQihZ005QQcategoryZ377QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQcmdZViewItem In looking at the Readers Digest web site there are several other books offered there along the same theme that look very good. Their prices are a bit higher than e-bay though.

Well Carl, just so you don't feel like you're the only idiot around here. I bought a new L.E.D. tail light for my bike last fall just before my accident. The first weekend I got parole from the hospital I opened the package and checked out the new light and was planning to take it out to the shop to store it for some future RSV (which I now have put a deposit on). Well guess what, it's no where to be found. I remember putting the excess packaging aside to be put out for the recycle and I'm guessing that I may have set the light itself in the same spot and then forgot about taking it out to the shop. So it probably has been recycled into new plastic water bottles or something by now.

Keeping my eye on the Texas Stampede M&E thread. You never know. I'd sure like to ride in Hill Country again. BBQ and Beer sounds good too.

Hey Lou, Any way you can get Ma Bell to send Tom some of those Frank and Gordon videos? He's trying to learn how to be a Canadian Eh. He won the F&G stuffies at Ft. Collins but I think he really needs to see those videos to help him out. Too bad Bell doesn't sell those on a DVD. Maybe if you make a suggestion you could win enough to retire, then we could all go to TX when ever we felt like it. I'd buy that DVD.

I was told by two dealers that Yamaha Canada will not pay for warranty work on a bike a Canadian buys in the States. I don't see why where you got the bike should matter.
-
I've had almost the same experience from my local dealer, Bob's Motor Sports, Chatham ON. I asked him about doing warranty on a used bike that I bought from another dealer and he said "why wouldn't I do it, it's money in my pocket". He did all the warranty work on my '03 and it was always done professionally and usually while I waited. One time he let me take the shop truck to go for lunch. And he always bought me a coffee at the mid morning break time.
