Catastrophic wreck 10/17/07.

The guys in those pictures sure look familiar. The guy on the red bike never cleans his wheels.

Has anyone had any luck trying to shorten their XM antenna wire? Mine was broken in the accident so I figured I had nothing to lose by cutting it shorter and trying to reconnect but it didn't work out for me. Man that is some fine work for these old eyes. I soldered the main wire in the center, covered it with liquid tape, pulled the shielding back over that and soldered it, then used shrink wrap over the whole splice.

would you buy a RSV again?
Gary N. replied to stvmaier's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
"Would you buy a RSV again" I would and I did. No better bike out there for the price IMHO. -
Spear, You probably need to snip a couple of ties behind the fairing and/or move the clutch and brake cylinders a little on the bars. Be careful of having a bind at full lock turns. You don't need the throttle sticking in that situation. After your done turn the bars all the way to the right and left and turn the throttle and see that it returns easily on it own.

Looks like it's made to straddle a standard motorcycle jack but with the adaptor I use on mine to lift the RSV it wouldn't work. Why not just leave it on the jack? Then you can roll it to where ever you want it. Carbon 1 makes a jack adaptor with legs that would do the same job but it doesn't have wheels to move it around once you get it up in the air.

Sonny, When ordering from the States see if they will ship via USPS (post office). That way you don't have to pay brokerage fees. Only a $5 handling fee plus 13% taxes. Some sellers will and some won't.

Have you tried leaning on the corner with your foot? Worked for me.

Only 180 miles for me, but I've only been riding again for a little better than a week.

About the Shakespeare Festival http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratford_Festival_of_Canada http://www.stratfordfestival.ca/ As I recall most exit signs on the 400 series Hwy's show a picture of a gas pump if there's fuel available at that exit. Also a tent for camping and a plate with a knife and fork for eating. I guess they use pictures for all the folks who don't read English or French.

Sonny, Here is where I got mine. http://treestumpmse.bc.ca/index.html They're in B.C. and sell in Cdn $ at par. Great service too. Their web site is a little hard to navigate but if I can figure it out anyone can. Here's the one I ordered http://radiantz.com/cart/index.html?c20.html&1

FYI for those crossing at Port Huron. Hwy. 7 is a nice two lane road that runs just north of 402 and 401 bypassing London but going through a few small towns like Stratford. If you have the time it's a very nice ride and only takes a little longer than the super slab. Stratford is well worth spending some time at. The lady's always like it there for sure. Lots of parks along the river and the Shakespeare theater. Also there's a great place to eat in St. Marys. I don't remember the name but I think it's the old post office converted to a restaurant.

Hey Jonesy, FYI, there is a very large Amish community just outside (north) of Kitchener. Lots to see and do. I imagine a lot of the rides planned for the rally will be through this area too. Check out St. Jacobs, Elmira, Elora, West Montrose, etc. And if you get a chance to have a meal of just dessert at Anna May's in Millbank, it's worth the drive and the wait. All these little towns are close and worth taking a look at.

OK, seems I was wrong, there are over 2000 stations in Ontario. Here's a link for you. Just scroll to the name of the town and look up the station. http://on.finditincanada.ca/app/search/cat-11007/ good luck. I hope you don't run out. And BTW I hear some of these even have indoor plumbing!

There's a couple of little towns (Sarnia, London) you will be going through. Last I heard they each had at least one petrol station. But if I were you I'd fill up in Port Huron and carry a five gallon Jerry can on the back seat just in case.

My insurance company has made me a settlement offer on my wrecked '03 RSV. I also have the option of buying the bike back. The only things that are salvageable are the engine, (still runs good) seats, trunk, (has two repairable cracks) saddle bags, (need to be painted) rear fender and all the parts on the rear 1/2 of the bike. The bag rails are usable but would need to be re-chromed which would cost more than buying new ones. They could by painted I suppose. My question is what is the market for these parts and how much money are they worth? I know the trunk and saddle bags would probably sell pretty fast but what about the engine? I would probably keep the extra wheels but the front one would have to be checked really well for damage.

HI Tim, nice to hear from you. We all know that riding bikes is a gamble and all of us here chose to take it. All I'm trying to get across is the fact that most of us never think about what could happen and the problems it could make for those left behind. In my case it was more good luck than good management. On another thread the guys are discussing how cheap their insurance is. Sometimes when you buy cheap you get cheap and you don't give it a thought until it's too late. Be prepared guys, you never know what's around the next turn.
