Hi everyone This is Mary, as in Gary's Mary. Carl am I the surprise you're talking about? I know I was darn surprised when he got down on one knee and asked me. At first I thought he was just going to tie my shoe lace for me, until the sun hit the rock. PS I said yes

What's up Carl????? Marca finally get fed up and kick your butt out? Is that why you're fixing that van up, so you'll have a place to sleep? Or maybe you two are expecting again. Wow, wouldn't that be something. I know Marca could handle the job but I'm surprised that you could. You old dog!

Cruise Control Issue's , Worked Great Before.
Gary N. replied to Cougar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Jeff, Do you know if they had to change out the throttle cables? If so maybe they goofed something up in the box where the cruise cable and throttle cable come together????? Just a thought. There is one of those "OH Sh*t" springs in there that can get away from you when you open it up. -
Cruise Control Issue's , Worked Great Before.
Gary N. replied to Cougar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hey Jeff, First thing I would check is the lever switches. They could be out of adjustment enough that they will not let the cruise come on. I've had that happen. Also check the one on the foot brake too. -
Congratulations Sherry! Very happy to hear that your life is good again. I love Colorado but Alaska is calling too. Flip a coin.

You don't have to rub it in you know. I've been having fun too just not on the bike.

I finally got back out in the garage yesterday and finished doing all the work that I had planned to get done on the bike over the winter and had been procrastinating about. I even repaired the windshield bracket where the plastic tabs had broken. Never fails, read about something on here, go out and check the bike and sure enough there it is, broke. Oh well, I made up the brackets welded them to the ends of the windshield bracket and bolted them to the speakers. Good to go. Just had to change the oil and wash the bike. I got the oil change done this morning. Then we were invited to an Easter brunch at noon. So I figure as soon as we get back I'll give it a quick wash and I can go out and enjoy the rest of this beautiful day and break in the new tires. OH NO! I no more then finished drying off the bike and in comes the neighbours to visit. They leave and in come some other friends to visit too. By now it's about 6:30 and the temp is dropping and it's time to eat. No ride today, but it was close. Hope it's nice tomorrow.

What a timely subject. I almost got killed today due to my car hauler coming unhitched from my truck. When I finally got everything stopped and on the shoulder I discovered that the pin that holds the hitch head into the receiver was gone, the head pulled out and one chain had let go as well. Can't say what happened to the pin other than it was gone. Either it broke or the safety pin fell out allowing the 5/8" pin to work out. The trailer whipped from one side of the road to the other hitting the back bumper on both sides each time it did so. I can't imagine what this would be like if it happened on a bike. My empty trailer probably weighs about 1/3 of what the truck weighs and it through that truck around like a toy. Sure glad I had safety chains even though one came off. Also glad we didn't get hurt and I didn't hurt anyone else.

Hoping to do it again Bill. This time with my co-pilot.

Need WWW tires for Venture
Gary N. replied to YamaDuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm on my 5th set of 404s and I get about 14000 miles on a set. I tried the Avon WWWs using the 130 front and I liked them fine but I wasn't impressed enough to justify the extra expense. -

I've been using them for a couple of years with no problems. I still check the pressure when ever I wash the bike but like to have a fast look at the caps everyday. I have them on my car too.

removed cassette, added gauges......done
Gary N. replied to jlh3rd's topic in Computer, Lights, Horns, Other Electrical
FYI...look in any street rod magazine and you'll find all kind of guages, both mechanical and electric in any style your heart desires. All depends on how much you want to spend. I really like the Stewart Warner "Wings" style. They look like they came out of the '50s and have a convex lens. I've use them in my street rod projects. http://www.classicinstruments.com/ http://www.stewartwarner.com/ http://www.stewartwarner.com/PastFeatures/wingkits.html -

Think about what you're saying here. We don't live in the dark ages. We don't cut someones hand off for stealing. What would you have done with a 16 year old who made a mistake. A tragic mistake to be sure, but a mistake just the same. Do you want an eye for an eye? We all have made mistakes. OK, so we hold the parents responsible. What if it's a single parent living from pay day to pay day or maybe they don't even have a payday. What then, you can't get blood from a stone. We don't live in a perfect world. Accidents, crashes and mistakes happen every day. People get hurt and killed. Those that cause the pain either pay or they don't. That's how it is. The good Lord gave most of us a conscience and for me the worse punishment there could be would be having someones hurt or death on my conscience for the rest of my life.

I get it.....09/04 for me.

Well Brad, I'm afraid, at least in my case, I have to disagree with you. And I do look at it with emotion. The 16 year old girl that hit us, killing Leslie and almost killing me, saw us when she stopped at the intersection and admitted she saw my modulating headlight but thought we were turning right so she pulled out in front of us. (Lack of good driver ed.?) She was charged with motor manslaughter and given a 90 day suspended sentence, providing she got counseling, and lost her licence for two years. Having had two teenage drivers in our home I know first hand what a parent goes through every time they leave with the car. There is nothing that they could have done to this girl that will change anything. The fact that I know that she has a conscience and will be haunted by what she has done for the rest of her life is all the punishment that I need. These are her words, written one year to the day after our accident. "No words could ever describe how sorry I am. Not a day goes by where I don't think about what happened a year ago. Truly, sorry, from the bottom of my soul." October 17, 2008 9:29 AM
