  1. Well thanks, I think. Been a long time since I slept in one of those.
  2. Got an appointment for 8:00 am Monday morning at the Winnebago factory in Forest City Iowa. We've been having some trouble with one of the slide outs and they need to remove it to make the fix. I figured it would be much smarter to let the guys who built it, fix it, rather than the dealer. So we're off bright and early tomorrow morning. Planning to head to Branson Mo. afterwards for a few days.
  3. I've installed four of them. I'll do yours at MD if you want. Or a good excuse for you to come up here for a vacation. Never seen a long gasket on any I've done before, only the rubber washers for the screws.
  4. I thought that was southern yellow pine.
  5. Don, don't forget to chamfer the holes or you may get cracks. Don't ask how I know this. Doesn't hurt to make the holes just a little bigger than needed so you're not putting any extra force on the plastic.
  6. The RSV likes to eat rear brake pads. You need to get real friendly with your front brake and keep a close eye on the rears. I like to check the rear pads at every oil change and I swap the inside and outside pads as needed to get them to wear evenly. I wouldn't go much over 6000 miles without at least taking a look and probably doing the flip, inside for outside pad. I always have an extra set of rear pads on hand, just in case.
  7. So what do you consider a senior citizen? 50?, 55?, 60?, 65?. I never ask for the seniors discount but I do sometimes ask for and get a grey hair discount. I have an 18 year old brain trapped in a 58 year old body.
  8. I hate to say this because I know I'll probably go out in the garage this morning a see a puddle of oil but I have over 70,000 kms. (42,000 miles) on my '06 with the original shock. Where's a piece of wood to knock?
  9. I don't have any intention of pulling a trailer behind my bike but after reading this post I have a question for the experts. We all know that under inflation causes heat and possible tire failure on most vehicles. I get that these trailers have relatively light loads and therefore lower tire pressure is OK to achieve a better ride quality. My question is this. Why are you (meaning anyone pulling one of these trailers) using a multi leaf spring set up on such a light trailer? I would think that a single leaf spring under this type of trailer would carry any load you would ever want to carry and contribute to a better ride. This would also allow you to put a little more air pressure in the tires to help keep them cooler and lessen the chance of a blow out due to heat. I just don't like the idea of using the tire side wall as part of the suspension system. What does HF rate the carrying capacity of these trailers at?
  10. Try this. http://www.cycletrader.com/
  11. Replaced the one in my '03 back in '04 under warranty with only 8000 kms. on it. Dumped all the oil in one shot on the garage floor. I drove it a month until I got the new one. Didn't really notice a lot of difference but I only had the bike about two months at the time and wasn't really used to it yet. BTW, Brad T got that shock after my accident and as far as I know he's still using it.
  12. I guess I missed this the first time around. Mary and I.
  13. I wouldn't be worried about the mileage but I think you could find a newer and/or lower mileage RSV for the same money. There are a lot of low mileage bikes available if you don't mind doing a little research and a little driving.
  14. Don't feel bad old man. We all drop them sooner or later. Hey what happened to the RSV you bought in Quebec a while back? You didn't keep it very long.
  15. Nope!
  16. Hey Charlie, I did the same thing on my RSV. The only thing left of it is the key ring. I remember hearing it come off but didn't know what it was at the time. Now I don't have any gremlin protection.
  17. I'm with you Goose. Pain in the a$$ looking for that valve. At 1/2 a tank my GPS warning goes of. At 1/4 tank the counter starts and light comes on. What more do you need?
  18. Having had experience with the drugs they give you while in the hospital, I know all about the hallucinations. Also my dad fell and broke his hip a month after his 91st birthday. He had to have a partial hip replacement and is now in a wheel chair and probably will never walk again. He too went through the hallucinations and due to his advanced age he has hard time determining what's a dream and what's reality. But, he's alive and pretty happy and I'm happy that he's still here. It's so hard to watch all this take place with our parents.
  19. Here's the thread about installing the HD tips. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11648
  20. Doesn't rub on anything. Held on by gravity and a cute little butt. (Mary's not mine) Through it in the trunk when not being used. Except for once. That one got lost going down the hwy.
  21. Jack, I repacked my Bub's with some packing material I bought on e-bay. I put as much around the baffles as I could fit back in the can and they sound good. I put some HD fishtail tips on them to replace the bad originals. HD make a lot of different style tips that would probably work without a lot of work. I posted some pics a few years ago when I did it. I'm sure they're still on here somewhere if you're interested.
  22. I remember seeing some of the early Royal Stars with leather saddle bags. Did they also come with the plastic (RSV style) bags?
  23. October, 2004 for me. I think Don started the site in June or July of '04. I do remember Dallas and he was a hoot. I think he got PO'd about something or someone and took his ball home.
  24. I've only ever used the Silver Star bulb.
