no start LR cylinder fuel of fuel
Gary N. replied to vzuden's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Sticky float. I'd do an oil change ASAP. Some of that gas got past the rings into the crank case for sure. -
Crossing the border into the States anymore is always a crap shoot. Depends on the time of day, day of the week and the mood of the border police. I find weekends between 6 and 9 am and week days mid morning around 10 am the best. But that's crossing at Detroit. I've crossed at Buffalo on a weekday morning and it was slow.

Yes, at 80 who knows how much longer he will be at it. That's why we thought we should go see him while we can. Might still be tickets left Don, want me to check?

Impossible not to have a good time. The show was over 3 hours including the intermission. Next week it's Willie Nelson. ....Don's older brother I think!

Mary and I saw a great concert tonight at the local casino. Peter Frampton's Guitar Circus with guest Don Felder (from the Eagles). WOW! what an awesome show. "Hotel California" and "Do you feel like we do" brought the house down. http://blogs.windsorstar.com/2013/06/13/framptons-guitar-circus-hits-town/

Be safe and have fun. See you when you get back. Our Toronto kids are moving to Leslieville in August.

It's hard to know just what to say Steve. Sorry doesn't seem like enough. We have spoke on the phone as I have bought two of your grills over the years. It is one of my favourite accessories. I will think of you every time I look at that grill on my bike. I hope the road ahead of you is as smooth at it can be. Best wishes and good thoughts for you and your family. Gary & Mary

Just wondering what your opinion is on the shifting. When I demoed one a couple of years ago I thought it felt like it was clunking into gear. Not really a smooth shift. A salesman at the Toronto Bike show last winter said they have made improvements in that area.

I recommend 1000 Islands Parkway along the St. Lawrence then old Hwy. 2 and generally just hug lake Ontario down to Bowmanville. If you have time there are 1000 Island boat cruises, Bolt Castle and Upper Canada Village is a nice stop if you have time to head a little east first.

Most modulators are wired to work only on high beam and you can turn it off by switching back to low beam. A light sensor should turn the modulator off at dusk. Don't know why your tail light would be modulating too. Modulators are legal in Canada and everywhere else in North America as well under federal law.

This is what I use. http://www.customdynamics.com/signal_dynamics_back_off_brake_light_modulator.htm -
j&m headset patch cord

Be careful. Those patch cords are known to go bad. I think usually right at the helmet connector. Try Sierra Electronics. http://www.sierra-mc.com/ -
Anyone here make a 'hitch' Cooler or Luggage Rack?
Gary N. replied to LilBeaver's topic in Watering Hole
I have the stock shock and always keep it at 55 lbs. I also have the leveling links which raise the back up about 1". I weighed the carrier loaded before we left for our Alaska trip and it was about 35 lbs. Trunk and saddle bags were all full and one piece of luggage on the luggage rack. Rider and passenger about 350+ lbs. Set up like this I noticed very little difference in handling but when we picked up a few groceries and put them in the trunk and placed the trunk luggage on top of the carrier, I couldn't hardly control it. Luckily we only had to drive a short distance like that. -

I made one using a 15 gallon Rubbermaid container. Word of advice: anymore than about 40 lbs. will affect the handling of the bike. And not in a good way. -
leveling links and a new shock
Gary N. replied to 22lyons's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Pumping the rear shock up to the max 55 lbs. will raise the rear somewhat. Maybe 3/4" to 1". You could do that for an experiment. I run mine there all the time but I'm usually two up and loaded. -
I should also have mentioned that I had the "Butt Buttler" seat mod done which helps a little by narrowing the seat a bit.

I don't get it? I think these bikes must come from the factory at different ride heights. I too am 5'10" and 30" but I have raised the back of my bike and I keep the shock pumped to the max. I also use wooden seat beads as well and I don't have any trouble flat footing at a stop. We ride two up most of the time (aprox. 350+ lbs.) with full luggage and I found before raising the bike we were bottoming out the suspension on hard bumps and scraping the exhaust tips too. Now, we can still do it but not nearly as often. I find the bike handles much better at all speeds with the 1" higher rear suspension too. I still have the original rear shock. No leaks and pumped to 55 lbs. With the amount of times I bottomed out before, I sure wouldn't want to lower it from stock. PS: my bike also has almost all the safety chrome, (bag rails, luggage rack, trailer hitch) which also adds to the total weight and affects the final ride height. IMHO if you are carrying a heavy load, DON'T lower the bike unless you only ride down smooth, straight roads.

Mary has been after me to buy one of those keys for her Mercedes. I don't think so! I wouldn't ever drive it again or be seen riding in it. Maybe there's method in her madness?? And yes they do turn as you go down the road. Around $250 I think.

Same goofy weather down here in Hill Country. High 90s one day and frost on the ground the next. I have to go home soon to cut my grass too.

I remember back in the fall of '04 when I could remember all the members names. Now I can't remember what I had for breakfast.

Good luck Joe. That little Sporty will be like riding a dirt bike compared to the RSV. Should be fun.
