  1. I haven't heard of this problem from others but I've had it on two different RSVs. My wife was complaining about her headset cutting in and out both on music and communications. We thought we narrowed it down to a bad headset patch cable but with continued problems I determined that the cable running from under the fairing to the connector under the back seat was bad. On my last bike when I had this same problem I found a worn spot in the cable where it went behind the neck cover. This time the cable was bad in the same spot but there was no obvious damage or wear to the cable. When I moved or wiggled the cable at this spot the music would cut in and out. The bad cable is the one with the white markers on it. Just wanted to mention this in case anyone else might have the same problem.
  2. When I experimented with the Barons risers I just wedged a piece of 1" thick rubber between each riser and the fairing. When I switched to Flanders the stock rubbers went back in place.
  3. Hi Don, I have the clear wrap on the front of my motorhome for stone protection. Some of the edges have lifted a bit but overall it's still in pretty good shape. It was installed in 2006 and it cost about $1000.00 at that time. But that might be another Canadian rip off. Could be less in the States.
  4. Had the same issue on my '03. The dealer changed out the CB unit under the trunk about four times. Yamaha kept sending reconditioned units. Then I totalled the bike before ever getting it to work again.
  5. Yes, there are pockets for them but they were way too small for my speakers. I was going to return the helmets but I contacted Sierra Electronics, where I bought them and they told me how to fix it. Time consuming but an easy fix. They sell several brands of helmets and said they have to do it all the time. It was odd to me that they wouldn't fit in the speaker pockets because on my wife's old GMax they fit without any alterations at all.
  6. Yup, you've got a lot to learn. Better start reading. Yes, the easiest way is to split the fairing. I know your hands are too big to reach in from the back side.
  7. Jim, we just bought a couple of these http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14/67/905/36661/ITEM/GMax-GM67-Open-Face-Helmet.aspx and so far like them a lot. I had to cut the foam in the ear pockets for the headset speakers to fit but other than that no issues so far. It comes with a windshield and sun visor but you can only use one or the other. It also has a slide down sun shield. There is a optional chin bar and rear light kit you can also buy for this helmet.
  8. WWWs makes the black cherry pop.
  9. Any HD dealer will have the pump. I keep my rear at the max 55 lbs. all the time. Like the way is handles there the best. That bike is just crying out loud for wide white walls. Congrats.
  10. Through mine away long ago. Just zip tie the patch cord to the passenger grab handle to make it easier to hook up too. Took mine off of the tank too. Pull cord back and run it out the left handle bar and zip tie near the radio controller.
  11. I found a nice compact plug kit at a bike shop somewhere. It came with a hose and adapters to screw into a spark plug hole and use the engine to pump up the flat. Only used it once on a friends RSV and it worked fine. This one is similar. http://www.ebay.com/itm/EMGO-84-97600-Motorcycle-Tire-Repair-Kit-with-Mini-Pump-Emergency-Tire-Repairs-/261235056783 Here's another for tube type tires. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stop-and-Go-deluxe-tire-repair-kit-for-all-motorcycles-tire-irons-travel-/300918854719
  12. My buddy has one and loves it but the riding position sucks big time IMHO. But my bad knees won't allow me to sit like that. Another friend just bought the 1600 cc, 6 cyl. version and is already researching new foot peg positions. He has had a GW and is finding the pegs on the BMW too high and he's a bit shorter than me. My guess is that you will find it a bit cramped after being used to a Star with feet fwd. riding position.
  13. Well, I got to take a chance on it. Ordered. I had the same issue on my last RSV. Want to have the part in my hand before I tear the bike apart. Hope it's the right one. I've had this issue on two bikes now starting at about 50,000 miles. It comes and goes but eventually gets so bad it quits working all together.
  14. I need the audio extension cord that runs from the amplifier, under the gas tank to the back fender. I'm just trying to verify that I have the right part number before I order it. The exploded view I found wasn't quite clear but I assume the one they call "cord extension" is the one I need. Here's a link to the picture I was looking at. Check #50 at the bottom. http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/oemparts/a/yam/500459e7f8700209bc793bda/audio-equipment-1
  15. I did this one with my RSV, two up and fully loaded. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTfhANTfqZU]Great Roads: Top of the World Highway - YouTube[/ame]
  16. Thanks but I'm trying to verify that it is the correct number for the cord that I need. Best price I have is Texas Yamaha Sports Center. http://www.yamahasportscenter.com/ecbasket.asp?fveh=lookup&section=&year=&make=Yamaha&model=&category=&sid=06917688X6K29K2013J8I14I03JPMQ1754R0
  17. Can anyone help me verify a Yamaha part number. I need to replace the patch cord that goes from the amplifier under the front cowling to the back of the bike. Looks like I have a bad spot at the head stock. The number I'm coming up with is 4xy-88192-01-00, "cord extension". The micro phish I found was kind of vague but I think that's the part I need. Had to replace the same part on my '03 too. I haven't got into checking it for ware but I'm pretty sure that's the problem. Passenger head set cuts in and out when ever I turn the bars.
  18. When you lose the shifter bolt, there is an extra one on your side cover you can use to get back on the road again. Carry a set of metric allan wrenches in your saddle bag. Use some blue locktite on every bolt you can get at. Especially the shifter bolt and rear fender bolts.
  19. For what it's worth Don, it works for me. I just followed your direction to Quick Links and Mark forums read when I'm finished and hit New Posts when I come back. Thanks for that tip.
  20. Has anyone else ever seen someone pulling two 5th wheel campers down the road? I assume it's dealers bringing them from the factory. They hook the first one up to the pickup like normal and then attach a special hitch to the rear axle and bumper of the first trailer to haul the second one. This special hitch has its own set of wheels to carry the tongue weight of the second 5th wheel.
  21. Found it. Here's the laws, State by State. http://towingworld.com/towinglaws.cfm
  22. Every State is different. Usually goes by overall length and 65' is common. I used to have a site bookmarked with State by State rules. I'll see if I can find it again. On a side note. In April when I was in Texas an RV rally came to our park and some of the 5th wheel trailers had bike lifts on the back bumper just like you sometimes see on motor homes. Apparently the owner of that 5th wheel company is also a biker and he designed the 5th wheel frame to handle the extra load of the hydraulic lift and the bike. I think they were called "New Horizon".
  23. So very sorry to hear this awful news. Don was a true Texas gentleman in every sense of the word. We are grateful to have known him and to have seen him again this spring at the SE Texas MD. I know if given the chance he was going to make sure I got baptised in the Brazos. Our condolences to his family and friends.
  24. Yup, same one. Can't believe it still works with that hole in it.
  25. Well I got to say for 80 years old that man has still got it. We bought tickets because we wanted to see a legend while we still could and we weren't disappointed. Different people who have seen him recently told us not to expect much but that guy played for 1 1/2 hours straight. Then he shook hands and signed autographs all across the front of the stage after the show. His voice may not be what it used to be and his pick'n not quite as sharp but wow, for 80 he is very impressive in my opinion. We both really enjoyed the show and are glad we had the chance to see him live.
