Don, be thankful you live on the south side of the lake. I'm less than 100 miles north of you and pay over $1200 / year on my RSV. I do get to use it year round by going south for the winter though. The stupid part is they still base rates on engine size. The RSV is much more expensive than a Road Star but the insurance is less because of the engine size. I could have a 600 CC crotch rocket that would be suicidal and pay even less for insurance.

My modulating headlight has saved my a$$ many times in the same situation.

There are lots of choices in Hill country. Kerrville is a good central location with everything you would want. Some suggestions: http://www.hotelplanner.com/Hotels/21625/Reservations-Inn-of-The-Hills-Kerrville-1001-Junction-Highway-78028#navPanel http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Hotel_Review-g56025-d1648362-Reviews-Hunter_House_Inn_Suites-Ingram_Texas.html http://rvcoutdoors.com/medina-highpoint-resort/ http://www.hotelsone.com/kerrville-hotels-us/y-o-ranch-resort-hotel.html?as=g&aid=45736927598&dsti=164098&dstt=8&label=ggehoeu-bh164098&akw=yo%20ranch%20texas%20kerrville&asrc=Search&ast=&gclid=CMyEtbGFor4CFcgRMwodl0cA5Q

Looks like a snowmobile with tires. Congratulations!

Most paint suppliers can scan your paint sample with a special camera and come very close to an exact colour match. I have done this on an old truck with an unknown paint code and had very good results.

whacky cruise control
Gary N. replied to muaymendez1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Make sure that the clutch handle switch, front and rear brake switches are not causing the cruise to cancel. They can stick or be set to come on too soon. Some folks who have installed leather streamers on the clutch and brake levers found the wind blowing on them will disengage the cruise. Cruise will only set in 4th or 5th gear, between about 30 and 80 mph. -
Gives a whole new meaning to the words "six feet under".

I've bought helmets and headsets from them. A friend bought a CB for his GW. Great service. Don't know about them repairing your radio. I'd give them a call first. Maybe try buying one from a wreck would be the less expensive way to go. You are very close to them. They are just off of I-75 and easy to find.

Here's a pic from the ride today. And one of my wife relaxing after the long hard ride.

Road the Willow City Loop today. The wild flowers there are sparse due to lack of rain this year. In some other areas around Fredericksburg there are quite a few along the ranch roads.

I've been doing this every year for the past six years on October 17. But I think of her every day whether I ride or not.

Hannigan with Wide Whitewalls - Help!!

Check with Diamond Back Tires http://www.dbtires.com/tires.html I found a 205/55-16 in the catalogue. They custom make WWWs. -
When I bought our helmets from Sierra Electronics they told me what I needed to do to fit the speakers. On a side note after wearing the new helmets for an hour or so it felt like someone had pounded nails into my forehead. With the liner back out and some coarse sandpaper I was able to take about 1/4 inch of foam off of the affected area. Fits fine and feels good now.
-
Reiny, you have to cut holes in the styrofoam in order for the speakers to fit. Had to do the same with our new Gmax helmets. I used a hole saw blade the right diameter to cut the foam back to the helmet shell.

Dan, you may be interested in replacing the tips. HD have many different ones available. Check this thread out for info on how I did my conversion. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11648&highlight=fishtail+tips

I suggest you check your state laws regarding trailer brakes. 6X12 single axle would have a gross weight rating of 2900 lbs. At least mine does. Even though it has a 3500 lb. axle they rate it at 2900 to beat the 3000 lb. limit for brakes in my province. Having said all that, if you don't mind spending a little more to get the brakes on it, you will be happy you did. You will need to add the controller to your tow vehicle as well. My 6X12 weighs 1200 lbs. plus the bike, plus all the other junk you usually add (spare tire, tools, etc.), you can get up to 2500 lbs. real quick. This makes any tow vehicle that much harder to get stopped. http://law.onecle.com/florida/motor-vehicles/316.261.html

Air and Rad help/opinions
Gary N. replied to The Beast's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I strongly disagree with that statement Bob. I've had K&N for years and consistently get over 40 mpg riding two up. I've even hit 50 mpg on occasion. NO changes to the stock settings on the carbs. I did open up the air box a bit and changed to after market mufflers but if you don't change the head pipes there's no need to retune the carbs. Here's the link for the ride maps. http://www.epgsoft.com/index.html -
Welcome. I wouldn't waste your money on that tire deal. Just my opinion but for that much money you can buy and install a new set of tires and have enough left over to buy a road side assistance plan. I have Good Sam. They cover all of my vehicles including the bike for something like $80 / year. I think a little less for a multi year contract.

I hope it all works out for you Don. We're thinking of you and wishing you good fortune. Gary & Mary

Somebody on here probably has a set laying in their garage that they took off. You might be able to buy for the price of shipping. Don't cost anything to ask.

Tank badges were changed in '06. Some feel that the tank badges on the '06 are too big and ugly and remove them. I like 'em.

Bad Fuel Pump Diagnosis
Gary N. replied to jfroman's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Some have changed the fuel filter to an automotive type (under $5) and relocated it to an area under the seat. Makes the next change much easier. -
Well, I've had my Roady II satellite radio on my bike since about '05 or '06 and I'm thinking of up grading. My subscription is up and when I called XM I found out I can get a life time subscription. Don't know why I never asked before. Anyway if my radio dies they want another $50 to change radios so I'm thinking maybe I should get a new radio first and then get the life time subscription. The one I'm looking at is called Onyx EZ. Anyone have experience with this one or advice on a different model. I would like to be able to move the radio from my bike to my truck or motor home. I already have antenna and power cords installed in these vehicles and I understand the Onyx is compatible with these.
