Sniper 316 I get that. But sometimes it's about people who need to be able to reach you not who you need to be able to reach

  2. Thinking about using Pandora for music on the go. Do any of you use it? And do you like it?
I got tired of Pandora without a subscription. I've been using Napster happily for years and share the account with my 22 year old son who uses it all the time. You can have same account in like 3 phones and 3 computers.

  3. Still no bill. Or bike. Fuse blown. No tach, no turn signals, no tail/brake light. Mark says, "In the morning."

Tomorrow, (Oops, I forgot that it's 2 AM now! I picked up some Chinese food on the way home and ate it then fell asleep on the couch from about 6 till 11. My body clock's a mess this week) anyway, Saturday's supposed to be near 60 with little wind.

  4. Are you asking just the shop bill or does that include all of the parts that you sourced and bought for the shop to install?
I forgot that they also put in new TDI box way back when. I provided that box. I don't think there's a ton of money in Parts should be shop time. When I was in there earlier this week the old guy, that we think is actually the one who sold me my 76 KZ650, said, " "Steve, those three guys been making love to that bike all week." That's scary. They also kept it there and did the work as they had time to fill as winter set in. It was all done when they wanted to or had a chance to. We did talk once that if we were talking more than 1700 more and would have to decide whether to continue or not. And, these guys already did $3,500 worth of work for the previous owner who only put 200 miles on it afterwards. Rebuild the transmission rebuilt Forks new front tire I don't know what all else

  5. Well we're heading to 45 degrees today 55 tomorrow and I'm supposed to get my bike back today. They still haven't spread any gravel cuz we haven't had any precipitation in 6 weeks so it should be ok to pile on some miles!

Maybe I should come up with some kind of a prize for the correct or closest answer but here's my question:

I have no idea what my bill might come to today but here's a list of things that I had done, who wants to guess?

New valve cover gaskets, valve adjustment, rebuilt carburetors, new slave cylinder for the clutch, all new brake lines, new seal on the front of the driveshaft(which we were blessed to find a new OEM part for), replaced exhaust with some Road King(or Road Star? Every time I say one or the other I get corrected so I don't know right now) take offs that he thought he could get for 40 bucks a piece. (Hear it in my recent post)

Sooooooo, How much will it cost? I may be bragging or just not so quietly (because she's LOUD now) slink off into the noon day Sun on a two laner.

  6. I just picked up one of THESE in an auction for $7 bucks just because. I really don't like to buy anything electronic out of an auction, but it was cheap.. Got it home and the reason it was auctioned of by Amazon was the charger adapter for the US was missing. Called Celestron and they sent me another complete charger... for no charge.. :-) (is that a pun??) Anyway the thing was designed to supply power to their computer controlled scopes. Besides that it has a light that you need to put on the shades before turning on... Bright as all get out. It also has a couple of USB ports for charging phones and plugging in the computer. I think it's great for a power source when doing a long trip.... Not cheap but worth every penny.

Holy smokes! Not in my budget at this WalMart price! Bet it's a good one though. That's what I paid for the Charge 3 and it has great speakers! Loooooong battery life when used as speakers. In fact, before I put the new pipes on last week (see other post), I could have listened to it on the bike for audio. 72358cf8c4e6b5e5be7d6b6c68fbd4cc.jpg

  7. I'm going to assume that most of you carry some kind of phone battery backup for your overnight trips. You know, those nights when you pull off, throw up a tent, snuggle into bed, try to make a call to say goodnight and realize you forgot to plug in your phone during the last two hours of your trip.

So assuming that, is there a storage backup that you highly recommend and wouldn't leave home without? I do have a JBL Charge 3 that is supposed to charge your phone but it gives you about 20 minutes of a charge. Enough for an emergency. But then you also lose the ability to listen to music cuz your battery went to give you a few minutes of phone use. By the way, I've been told I give good phone. Wink

  8. Ok a few years ago Taters (my wife who was not a good girl) wrote on this forum to influence Santa to bring her presents which she did not deserve. Her lies on being good overrid Santa's bad list and she was rewarded with an abundance of presents from the jolly old elf himself...so I have decided to give it a go for my self and implore you to do the same....here goes.

Dear Santa, First of all let me state that I have been a good boy this past year (unlike that Saddlebum guy and that Puc guy). I have been working hard on all the stupid projects that Taters has me doing for no reason at all... .I mean how many times do I have to paint that stupid room over and over because she is colorblind..neverless, it is done again...I guess I'm the only one who makes trash....because its always my garbage to take out.....but wait, I guess I'm loosing site of the reason for my letter (like Marcarl who is long winded). My reason is to ask you for a new GPS for my spyder along with ram mounts and cradle..( I need this because Taters sense of direction is unbelievable..(.north is ALWAYS IN FRONT OF HER)..I am tired of going in circles and getting lost..(like my pal Starfan).. I would also like to ask you for a new Remington rifle.....why ? just because I want one ..A 7mm Remington mag. would be nice... Again, I want to remind you of how good I've been this past year...really good, really really good. I am going to keep this list really short, that's all I want (And Deserve)...also, in closing if you get a letter this year from Taters again she scammed you a few years ago and did not deserve any of the gifts you brought her...(did I mention how good I have been this year ?) Santa, I know how busy you are this time of year ( unlike my good friend, Rocking Robin who is probably laying on the crouch eating bon bons watching Jerry Springer..) so I will not take up anymore of your time..Please ( because I've been so good) ....I hope you can see it in you heart to bring me these two Items.....you biggest admirer...BIG TOM

I don't know but with those two gifts, I wonder if something nefarious might happen to taters...

  9. Somebody pulling on both ends of that road? could be a couple of Dutchmen!
    Little known facts about Nebraska...

Our largest export is sand and gravel.

The Platte River and the Nile are the only two sand-based rivers in the world. And both are over aquifers. Also unique in the world.

Nebraska has more miles of Shoreline on our crick's rivers and streams than any other state in the nation.

It's a very unique ecosystem and quite beautiful in its own way. Some people have to sit on the edge of an ocean or a cliff in the mountains to see The Wonder of God. I I am reminded of His majesty when I travel this unique area of the world.

Because we're laid out on a north-south grid 1 mile sections and because of all of our Creeks Rivers streams and things that aren't bridged, there is a lot of interesting riding and scenic areas accessible by unimproved roads, sand and gravel Roads that you could fly down like in the desert and gravel roads. Definitely not high-speed twisties action but very rewarding rides. Again thank you for your patience as I dictated this to talk to text and it won't punctuate anything.

  11. The Urologist I've been going to is a woman physician"s assistant. Didn't bother me a bit to get checked.
After my last appointment the nurse came in because my PA is a woman, and she said what no prostate exam today? I was all ready to come in for your prostate exam. Of course my response was why the hell would you want to be here for my prostate exam? And she said it was to make sure the female physician assistant didn't take advantage of me! My reply? Party Killer!

  12. How about we setup a Pony Express type exchange between Venture Riders from coast to coast US/Canada. Each participant has two days to reach the next stop/rider. They could donate 2 bikes and provide a camera man.

  14. Looking back at those photos, brings to mind a line from, yesI'm going to admit this, one of my favorite movies, Katharine Hepburn in The Philadelphia Story, " my, she was YAR..."

It was 8 years ago. Notice the pipes? Needed to be rejetted. I never could afford her needs. As far as a loud cruiser goes, I believe that anything that draws attention to my motorcycle in today's traffic just adds 100' to the range of people who know I must be somewhere.

  15. I dont know you guys,, gonna sound like Pt 4 of a Grumpy Old Man movie but think I will say it anyway.. Fact is,, I think Ty,, like all the rest of us, needs to examine closely what exactly he is trying to obtain thru this experience. I know from personal experience that wants, needs, desires and all that change over time.

Case in point,, my next door neighbor had a gorgeous 1500 carborated Wing that he purchased from his brother in law to help him out.. Bike was extremly low mileage for an 89 = under 25k and just beautiful.. One day my neighbor, who hadnt ridden in years decided he and his wife were gonna go CTFW with Tip and I for an afternoon and off we went.. Not to far into the trip and he/we discovered that, because of sitting for a while, the Wing had developed a nasty dead spot when taking off from a corner.. No problembo I says,, you and I will pull the carbs and clean em (thinkin old school Wing).. After looking closer at the Wing design I/we found out that Honda decided to go to a 2 barrel carb buried between the frame spars that someone who's hands were in much better shape than mine would have to dismantle = couldnt even get a screw driver between the carb and frame hardley, talk about tight.. A later trip to a Honda shop/mechanic to clean the carb resulted in a 1250 dollar bill.. After getting that resolved the bike sat for another 6 months with only an occasional start up just to keep things operating. When asked why, my neighbor said it was just to much bike for he and his wife, she simply could no longer tolerate sitting on a bike saddle for more than 1/2 hour a day - MAX.. They sold the thing this spring at a major loss and picked up a little Motor Home to do their CTFW(S) on..

Thinking out loud here Ty,, maybe do a little soul searching about exactly what it is that you. personally, are trying to accomplish here.. You wanna ride and tinker on an old scoot that every seal, bearing, wire connection and moveable part as well as stationary part is over 30 years old? We are here for you if that is the case.. You got a ton of cash and wanna turn to labor costs of 100 bucks an hour and beyond = lots of wealthy folks do just that and I tip my hat to em. You do that and you will be just as welcome here as any one... You decide to bail on the project,, take loss,, pick up a smaller, newer, V-Twin Honda Shadow or one of those Honda 800 Pacific Coast things that look like they would run forever and just jump on and go = yep,, still 100% welcome here and still to all and any VR Event or rally.. Shoot,, pick up a new left over Yamaha big scooter,, no shifting, easy to mount cause its step thru and head to the Sturgis Rally after doing one of our Maintenance Days - I would be glad to camp next to ya and wouldn't feel at all uneasy about cruising next to ya on a good all day CTFW..

Just a simple matter of figuring out what is gonna make you happy and fulfilled in your CTFW experience..

All that said Ty,, dont think I ever did hear whether or not your thinking of touring 2 up once ya get a bike where ya want it? That alone could make a big difference in the deciding here IMHO.. Toss another person on there and yea,, you are pretty much gonna find the need for a full blown touring scoot in your man cave..

I will say this,, from my perspective,, bikes are a lot like the people that ride em,, the older they get the more inclined to need maintenance in area's that one would not even think maintenance should be needed.. Hmm,, that was kind of profound = kind of sorta? :big-grin-emoticon:

Been chewin on all your encouragement! I'm going have to sit down with the real keyboard instead of this Tapatalk app on my phone. I'll share the story of how this new relationship for me began. It'll help me to remember and has helped me to formulate a plan. In the meantime as a man who was only married 15 years out of his 59, I found this to be funnyc6f701d72d501c64137d4ffe032e4396.jpg

  16. Forgot to put in there that I didn't know jack about bikes... And this site laid that to rest also why I went with the Yamaha v4 then the cruiser style ninja in sheep clothing...

One aspect in my mind that you guys don't know about is that Mark will give me a part list and let me bring in parts that he knows are hard to find find or that I can get better pricing on

  17. There are people on this site that have done everything on your list. If you get stuck while doing something the solution is just a posting away.

As mentioned above, unless you have a lot of spare cash to spen on a hobby, owning a 30 year old anything is probably not for someone that is not willing to dive in to do the work. Fixing up your bike will be a labor of love, not for profit, you will never get back the cash you spend. With all of that said, My vote is to keep it and let us help you along.

As for tools, getting new tools is always a good thing, Many super special tools can be borrowed or rented. If you don't already have it, the first tool should be a good set of JIS screwdrivers. There are NO Phillips screws on your bike, they are all JIS.

Cptriker1 sounds just like me only louder! See his post:

    Update 10.19.17 The unending hell...

I also don't have access to another set of hands in the garage.

I've made my decision, I'm going to go ahead and have my guy give me quotes on the work. I will do the soldering on the dash and things like that. I put another hundred miles on yesterday afternoon and I just really like this bike. 36500 miles justifies having the work done professionally this time because she has so much life left to live. Besides I couldn't get anything but another Yamaha because I may never find a group of guys like this one! Next year... Maybe we will meet face-to-face?

    Thanks all!

  18. If it fits you and you love it . . . See above
The problem is I struggle with the idea of paying my guy to go ahead and finish her all up, and he could start on it right away and have it ready for me soon, as opposed to the summer when he was backed up five to six weeks at a time. I would be more confident with him doing the work and my maintaining from there once it's a solid and safe riding machine. I'm challenged because I'm mechanical, not a mechanic. I knew there'd be tinkering to do and things that I can do but I know in my heart of hearts that I'm 70% Rider, 30% fixer.
